Balmain & Wests - Stone cold Broke ?

Would they have wests tigers vs wests magpies in nsw cup? I dont think so. It will still be the balmain brand but run by wt behind the scenes.

We will find out more on Saturday.

If I was a betting man, I would say that there will be a WT State Cup side that will take over the role that BRET plays in the WT Structure, and if money can be found somewhere, a Wests Magpies State Cup team also.

What do you think the chances are of St. George Illawarra NRL squad players playing for Wests Magpies?

It's already a done deal, unless the Dragons decide to go somewhere else

what makes u think that???

Mate of mine told me, apparently got a source high up in the NSWRL

State Cup needs to be completely overhauled by the new Independant Commission …... it does very little to promote and develop Rugby League ...... all the stars coming through are from NYC. They should make it a national competition, same as NYC, or scrap it.

Include it with the NRL games so there are 3 games to watch each weekend, make it reserve grade.

There would be U20's followed by reserves followed by first grade. Wests and Balmain combine as Wests Tigers but remain separate for junior reps.

Yes nsw cup is not sustainable as it is. Scrap toyota cup and reinstate a proper reserve grade comp for over 21yo.

Why should Wests Tigers be ashamed??? This is the doing of the Wests Group, not Wests Tigers…

When the Fib was asked at the Wests AGM if Magpies could be the WT feeder if Balmain where to fold he stated that that could never happen because Balmain would never accept that.

Balmain do not have one cent left to run a State Cup side. So the Wests Group members who sit on the WT BOARD should push hard and insist that the Magpies are the feeder side. It is none of Balmains business. The whole issue seems to be this, because Balmain can no longer field a side, they feel that Wests Magpies should not field a side either and that it should be a Wests Tigers State Cup side !!!

It's a disgrace that the Wests Group who own 50% of the Wests Tigers won't be permitted by Balmain to be the sole State Cup team. If, and it's a big If, Wests can get funding to field a State Cup side, and they do not get players from Wests Tigers and are forced to get players from somewhere else, the Balmain members on the Wests Tigers board should hang their heads in shame.

The Fib should be sacked if this ends up being the case. The numbers will be there for the Fib to be removed from his position.

But Bug, based on the above you are saying that Wests have rights as they own 50%. But Balmain own 50% too. If Balmain were to fold, then shouldn't your argument be that Western Suburbs should be elevated into the NRL in place of Wests Tigers?

If we are happy to throw out the 100 years of Balmain tradition with the bathwater, then why not go the whole hog and reintroduce the maggies to first grade. Hang on, that won't work, because the Wests side of the merger cannot survive on their own.

It seems to me that there needs to be a branching away from Balmain and Western Suburbs and that the focus should be on Wests Tigers in all grades. I am not criticising you Bug, I just think we keep both or we keep none.

In all honesty Bug, I don't see what happens in the short term being of any significance anyway.

The IC will most likely establish a proper national reserve grade comp where each NRL club will have to field a side, and the NSW cup will have even less relevance than it does now.

If Balmain or the Maggies want individual representation at that level so be it, but it's going to have next to no importance other than representing two relics who no longer have any presence at first grade, reserve grade or U/20's.

Balmain won't 'fold' as an organization. That organization will always own 50% of the Wests Tigers. Don't twist what I am saying Smurf.

I am Wests Tigers all the way. I am just saying that if Wests can afford to field a team in 2012, they should have WT players in that side, not Dragons players. It's a frigging joke.

A 'Wests Group' might exist legally but we both know mate that it doesn't. Wests Campbelltown is the floater in most votes and is pro Tigers.

Getting in bed with another NRL opponent isn't the way to go and you know that.

I think the reality is that Balmain will have Ryde-Eastwood there anyway, so they will be represented in State Cup no matter what, which is why I can't understand Wests not joining the State Cup's together. And if that isn't going to happen, it is disrespectful to everyone involved in and working so hard for the joint venture that they then go and work against it by joining St George in the State Cup.

Weird decision for Wests to have anything to do with the Dragons!

It seems to me that there still remains a big gap between the mindsets of (some) of the Wests and Balmain people but now that the WT's are the big, dominant and valuable brand their trying to shut the door after the horse has bolted.

I am a Balmain football club member, and I have advocated from day one that to have a successful team on and off the field we all need to work together (absolutely not getting into bed with other clubs!!).

As someone else mentioned its time to embrace the WT's from NRL to the leagues clubs to the juniors asap.

Wests Magpies have always wanted to stand alone at NSW Cup level. That was part of the agreement when we formed a joint-venture with Balmain. If Balmain get all of the WT NRL squad players that aren't playing in first grade then I support Wests Magpies getting NRL squad players from St. George Illawarra or/and any other NRL club. If we don't get any NRL squad players then we will finish around the bottom of the ladder every year, and that is unacceptable. It's not Wests' fault that Balmain don't have the funds to survive!
