Recieved my yearly mag from Wests Ashfield and things are not that great re Profit .Things are getting tough for Clubs and tougher times to come,if a merger of premier league is on the cards it will be about money one thinks.

Wests Ashfield are planning on extending the club and I am lead to believe have tightened the belt in a bid to show the bank that they can pay back the $20m they want to lend.

In all honesty Bug, I don't see what happens in the short term being of any significance anyway.

The IC will most likely establish a proper national reserve grade comp where each NRL club will have to field a side, and the NSW cup will have even less relevance than it does now.

If Balmain or the Maggies want individual representation at that level so be it, but it's going to have next to no importance other than representing two relics who no longer have any presence at first grade, reserve grade or U/20's.

It seems like this is the way it will go. Something like an under 22,s or 23's.

This would allow for more funds from Wests and Balmain being spent on junior development of the resepective clubs which has been a real strength of the Wests Tigers.

Some people like the State Cup but its past its used by date IMO

I am a magpie tragic & Wests Tigers member. I attended the meeting & there was no mention of Wests Ashfield funding a NSW cup side in 2012\. My gut feeling is that they can't afford to. It must be agreed that the Wests Tigers treated the magpies badly this year. From no NRL players to the magpie on the sleeve. Wests are part of the venture as much as Balmain are. I am happy to accept a Wests Tigers NSW cup side that plays half their home games at Campbelltown (Wests jersey) & Leichhardt (Balmain jersey). The team can wear the Wests Tigers jersey or alternate between the Wests & Balmain jersey in their away games. However, the Balmain Tigers & Wests Magpies must remain in their junior districts. The history of both our clubs must be maintained & acknowledged.

Balmain and Wests have both declared that they will field Matts and SG Ball sides next year, but seriously, how can they afford to? Who will foot the bill? For goodness sakes Balmain owe Blades $60K for this years jerseys still !!!!

I think, from all reports, Wests Tigers are ready to field Matts and SG Ball sides in 2012\. WTF ?? Can someone please tell me what is going on ?? This info came from a Wests Ashfield director who sits on the WT Board. :wtf

The rumors and facts change daily depending on who you speak to !! As of today, I can declare that it is all a massive mess.

Yes we could.

Neither side can stand alone, as far as I can see both sides should be absorbed under the Wests Tigers brand and we can all move on. To the diehards your time is about up and future looks great

thats my point. if wests magpies dont keep their own teams its because they want to merge those teams with balmain. it wouldnt be because they had to

Wests ashfield is one of the highest grossing leagues club in australia. How they divi up there funding i dont know. But i imagine wests campbelltown can directly keep on funding wests junior comp and ashfield the sg ball/h matts and balmain juniors can be indirectly funded by WT (with ashfield, campbelltown and five dock/syd markets club help) WT revenue (sponsors/grants/members) can also contribute to the unified nsw cup team.

Well wests campbelltown can fund them or wests ashfield may fund them indirectly via WT. Balmain havent got a proper leagues club and they are funded somehow. Keep harold mattd and sg ball as wests and balmain. Nsw cup as WT (but play in both heritage jerseys) WT for NYC and NRL. Centralised all thru concord.
