@MacDougall said:Sorry I don't think that is as black and white as you say. I think he probably is one of the great coaches but let's see how (if he ever has the guts to) he goes without a side that has the Australian fullback, halfback and hooker in it. At the moment I think Hasler has him covered. That Bulldogs side is full of reggies players, throwbacks and rookies and they went within a hair of winning it all after being first past the post. Bellamy was tearing his hair out when the Storm lost five on the trot. He also failed as the Blues coach.
So yeah, I'm reserving judgement on Bellamy until I see how he deals with a side that wasn't put together by cheating the salary cap. Right now he has one premiership. Sheens has four. Hasler has two. Bennett has a hundred.

Im sure others have done some less than scrupolus things over time. But the Storm team looked ridiculously over the cap, and were proven to be systematically cheating, there were all sorts of whispers at lower levels questioning how they kept on gazumping all other parties with more cash, the best examples being Hoffman, Inglis and Cronk who were heavilly in demand from jsut about everyone, and they just paid more for them. Their cheating was far and above anything others have done.
I agree with others, and Bellemy is clearly a good coach, but he has had obvious advantages, which he is still benefiting from. If he goes else where and achieves well good luck to him, he will have proven to all he is a great, until then in my eyes, I will respect him as a good coach but will not be held in the highest echelon of coaches.
But would i have him at the tigers, of course i would.

bellamy developed and fine tuned the likes of cronk, slater, inglis, smith and hoffman… who's to say they would have been even half the players they are today if it weren't for him. he has played a pivotal role in increasing their market value...
from what i have heard (from reliable circles), the storm are one of a very few teams who are now under the cap (because they are so highly scrutinised). when benny was at the helm of the broncos, im certain there were a number of years they were WELL over the cap - they just weren't caught because they were a bit smarter about how they went about 3rd party payments.. so does this make benny any less of a coach? ofcourse not. nor does it bellamy. he is the best in the nrl at present, which was proved in the clinical performance against the dogs - really, the storm never allowed them in it.. i agree hasler is good, but think bellamy is still better.

I find it hard to picture Bellamy leaving Melbourne, having said that he's got nothing left to prove or accomplish having won a "legitimate" competition this year.

Gee 'he is only 53 Bit young to start retiring
As the players say , you are retired a long time
I reckon he'd have at least 7 years left in him
@Goose said:Inglis, Cronk, Hoffman were amazing standouts and it was clear to any one they would be stars. They didn't spot some kid with talent and mould them. They identified the same blokes that every recruiter in the world could see and paid them the most money. I'd argue that most probably expected more from Hoffman, got exactly what they expected from the likes of Inglis, Cronk and Smith. Im sure that Bellemy developed these players, but to suggest these players would not be stars elsewhere is simply not correct.
Anyone who saw any of the 3 I named at 18 knew they would play for Australia. Plenty of Wests fans on here would have seen Hoffman in the SG Ball side, clear stand out, 2 time Australian Schoolboy that we were so excited about, before the storm offered him a bucketload of cash to head to the storm.
The cap cheating started all the way at that level, Bellemy had substantial advantages to say else wise is folly.
