The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have today confirmed that Ben Barba will be suspended indefinitely from all contractual duties until further notice.
The Club has also advised the National Rugby League today that Ben will not participate in the NRL’s season launch on Wednesday night where he was due to officially open the 2013 season.
The decision to suspend Ben indefinitely comes after the Club was informed of a number of behavioural issues.
“Whilst we all know the undoubted on-field attributes and abilities that Ben displays, we must always maintain our focus on the more important issues of personal development and accountability,” Chief Executive Officer Todd Greenberg said.
“It is our hope that the media and the many rugby league fans understand and respect the need for privacy in order for Ben and his family to make the relevant adjustments that are required for him to return to the playing field.”
Please find below a statement from Ben Barba in relation to his indefinite suspension from all duties with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs:
“Today is a very difficult day for me as I feel I’ve let my family, children, Club and supporters down.
“My issues relate to seeking help for personal issues that I face day to day.
“I’m incredibly sad to be stepping aside as I’ve been so blessed with what’s happened to me over the past few years, but I feel as though I would be wearing a mask if I didn’t confront the matters I’ve been dealing with until now.
“I feel it is best to deal with these problems front on and I believe that by doing so this will make me a better person and player in the future.
“This will be a step by step process for me and whilst I hope to return to football soon, I hope that through this next period you can respect my privacy so that sooner rather than later I can return to playing rugby league as best I can.
“When I do, I hope that everybody sees a better person.”

When Canterbury realise they're two tries a game worse off without him, he'll be reinstated.[/quote

It might get taken out of his hands CB

The comment about being a day to day issue might give away what the issues are

Just found out he also recently split with his partner who he has 2 children with

I think he has done the right thing in standing down , his Mental Health is more important than playing football his club and Barba have done the right thing and should be congratulated for it , yeah in the eye of the fans it's a real disappointment but his well being is what is most important .
Just hope the Journo's get of his back now and let him be, as this is a personal issue of his.

Gambling issues and Depression issues by the sounds of it

The rugby league community as a whole hopes he can sort his life out and get back to doing what he does best asap

I wish the kid luck in dealing with his issues…just dont understand why he needs to stop plying his trade to deal with it...?..Assuming its a alcohol/gambling issue...there are many John Citizens out there dealing with these type of issues...I've known some in the past...the difference being they didn't stop work..yet they successfully dealt with these issues.....hmmm

Yea, but the spotlight that he is under can be extremely bright when trying to deal with mental demons. We could only try to imagine the highs he goes through after a season he had last year, its when these highs get stale, drop off or dull is when people with mental illness hit rock bottom. Throw in a lot of spare time, youth, a busted up relationship and a genetic allergic disfunction to alcohol and he is prone to a catastrophic life threatening combination.

Well being in an industry that earns its money from gambling and booze is not really conducive with rehab is it. Every where he goes are bookies odds, ads for Tooheys so I think it's the best way, just remove yourself from it all

If he plays with his unresolved issues they will probably affect his game. If his form is poor he will be copping it from all the journos and experts, heaping more on him when he is probably at his limit now. His mental health and well being should be priority number 1.

You dont understand because - as you said, _you dont know_ what he's dealing with….none of us do.

Just cause one person can deal with A PARTICULAR problem, doesnt mean another can as succesfully, assuming the problems are the same....we dont know so no point even speculating
