Correct me if i am wrong but my understanding is that the club has offered Benji an upgraded contract for 2014 & 2015\. Benji wants to include an extension for another 2yrs as part of the upgrade.

The club may have offered another 2yrs but not at the same money as the upgrade for 2014 & 2015 (which is their right)? This and not the upgrade for 2014 & 2015 appears to be the point of contention?

If the issue is the size of the upgrade for 2014 and 2015, it comes back to what the club is legally obliged to pay. If it is not clear in the original contract that is the fault of Benji's manager. The contract should have been specific. ie. if the salary cap is increased during the term of this contract then this amount of this contract can be renegotiated. Or it could have been written as X% of first tier salary cap.

Actually,Benji doesnt have many options at all,& his manager is simply trying to extract an extra couple of years of commision..which of course is his job.
NZ rugby pays tuppence for Super 15,& there are at least four better(and younger)number 10s in NZ eligible for All Blacks better than Benji.Much better.
In the NRL,brand Benji has a bit of a stench about it atm, based solely on form over past two seasons,& endorsed by his demotion as captain of NZ.A desperate team like Eels or Warriors or Dragons mite at very best match what weve offered him for next 2 yrs, but hes no Thurston or Inglis,& his history of shuolder/knee injuries suggests hes not gonna age well in NRL.
So its us or Japanese rugby. on about the same $$ or a tad more in a Tokyo outpost..& that shld be an easy decision.Wing wasnt offered anywhere near the same $$ in NRL as Benji, which is why he jumped
Benji will stay,& earn his post -2015 contract, which is the way it shld be

The Benji Marshall rumour mill has hit overdrive the latest one of the press is that he has signed with the Waratahs it was announced on the Grill team with Matty Johns .

They say its a done deal will be announced when he comes home , I wonder what the next rumour will be.

You've got to know when to hold 'em
Know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away
Know when to run
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealin's done….

Benji sound like he's taking a fifth tackle option with his contract. Hope for his sale he hit the winger on the chest

let benji weigh up his options.
wests-tigers have offered him, what they think is appropriate.
if benji decides to go elsewhere then so be it.

Really purely based on the fact of commercial reasons I hope something can be worked out but only for the remaining 2 yrs, but I think a lot of the disturbance in the club boils down to benji.
Sheens staying so long and get resigned because benji dint want to play under anyone else and threatened to leave, now look at where we are with that, the moltzen drama the stink he kicked up with that and it goes on and on.
Someone has to step in and say enough is enough,it has to be Mayer and it seems that's what may happen but I also think if he was playing like he was in 2010/11 he would have gotten his own way.
One thing for sure though is if he loves the club as much as he says he does he should shut his mouth let his playing speak for itself and do his talking behind closed doors.

You get paid for what you are worth Benji and not a dime more. Please join the union, you have done well, look after your family. We are sorry to see you go, but happy to be rid of the rubbish you are giving us currently. You are slow, error prone and it will be good luck to West Tigers if you leave now. Don'r forget you are not indispensable. Just get on with it and don't make a clown of yourself. We have seen the fool for too long.

Magpie col he is signe til 2015 - got it

He was promised a renegotiation after the new TV deal was in place as the salary cap increased - got it

He took less money on this proviso - got it

Now WT have taken that away and now he is looking else where - got it

You are a peanut mate with no idea I was involved in the original deal I know exactly what went on. Pull ya head in

Say G'day to Robbie for us

By the way ,Im not overly sure the club or Benji would like you spilling all this info SG ,just my opinion

Yes he will

Mate, what i want to know is this. If they are renegotiating the current deal as promised, is the offer simply not what he was looking for? OR as the media have reported, he's looking for an extension til 2017\. Now the way i see it. WT's don't need to offer anything more than this upgrade? Why? Because that's all that was promised and this current deal still has 2 seasons to run.

Now i can understand Benji's frustration given he was supposebly negotiating with Humpty an extension till 17\. However Humpty's gone and the new guy, Mayer, is entitled to his own opinion. If he wants to cease those extension talks than that's his decision. He entitled to do it, especially given the amount of time left on the current deal. I would've thought Benji could see it from the club's perspective:

* 2 seasons to run on current deal
* Form not great.

Surely Benji and the club could come to an agreement to sit down again in 12 months time.

Its good to have you back SG, every time you claim you're leaving i worry that you might actually be for real.

It's a simple decision Benji. Stick with the WT and there might be life after football with us. Leave, become a flop and there's no coming back one day. The harder and longer it is for you to decide now, will make it easier and shorter for us to decide in the future. Short and sweet.

Correct.

At this stage, most certainly. If only Benji could cut out the schoolboy errors and play a lot more direct in attack. I have no doubt his form would be a hell of a lot better than what it currently is.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this (or maybe I just missed it).

One of the "Yes" reasons to re-sign Benji is for him to stay and mentor Brooks and Moses. Benji has ALWAYS been criticised as a player who can't take control of a game, doesn't have the patience to play percentage football, and frequently overplays his hand. While he has flashes of brilliance, he's always going to be a "when he's on, he's on" type player, and unfortunately the moments he is "on" are stretching further and further apart.

It seems we've forgotten we've got one of the better halves (in my opinion), who is able to control a game, play percentages, and has experience in all forms of the game - Braith Anasta.

I don't know what it's like playing with Benji or Braith, but from all reports playing between Farah and Benji is always tough for a young half. We saw it with Lui, we saw it with Miller, and we could see it with Brooks.

My plan for next year, should Benji and the club decide to part ways, would be to have Braith in the 6, Brooks in the 7, and Moses off the bench. Depending how the game is going, put Moses on in the last 20mins (the same way the Bulldogs brought Barba along), and either let him roam or move him to the 6 with Anasta to play 13\. IMO Braith would be a better halves mentor for these guys than Benji.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, one of the biggest strengths Brooks and Moses have is their partnership. The more we keep them together, the better they will be.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. Thoughts?
