stop sulking and take it like a man, your only doing yourself a diservice and tainting the great legacy you leave behind...

TT, are you deliberately being offensive? Marshall is no longer with the Club. His legacy will remain. Let's see how your poster pin up Reynolds finishes his career.

I dont care if Reynolds goes next year or Madge has plans for him....Benji has been an icon over the years and I have followed him throughout his career, but time has caught up with him and so has the game...believe and say what you want of me ,but it wont change my opinion of what he should do...retire and leave an everlasting legacy of being a brilliant and talented player...he should also support the way the WTs are going in the future which doesnt include him on the field,we will have young players trying to establish themselves, just the way Benji did..

To ask an outstanding WTs' player to stop sulking and take it like a man is average. But for a game that has apparently caught up with him, he sure can create try scoring opportunities.

Benji is not a great defender by any means but the focus on his weaknesses seems to override all the other weaknesses of the squad that were far more relevant in our losses and our lack of success again this year.
All teams run their big men at the smaller players. Look at missed tackle stats Benji is not in the top 50 but plenty of other good players are and are still picked in their sides every week for what they offer.
Our forwards were mostly responsible for our losses this year - not Benji's bad defence.
Whether you support him or not if we don't get some ascendency with our forwards we will be in the same position or worse next year without Benji.

There's a conundrum that's been in my head for a few days now. What happens when a player is injured towards the end of their season, (like Benji was in his last game for us). Surely it's the clubs responsibility to rehabilitate the player, for a long as the injury takes to heal. Say if the injury takes several months to rehabilitate, (like Benji's might) say specifically that it takes longer to heal and will still require treatment after the football year has ended (after October 31st).

Come November 1, if the player's injury still requires treatment, if they were with another club I presume the new club would take over responsibility of treatment of that injury. But if that player had retired (or not signed with another club yet) then surely the club he was playing for when he was injured would still be responsible for treating the injury. They wouldn't just say it's November 1 now, on your bike, fix your problem yourself. So if the Wests Tigers for example are still providing treatment to Benji in November, would he still be on our books in regards to playing roster for the new season? He would be still receiving resources that were allocated to the football side. Even if we referred him to a private medical centre where he could receive treatment, if we still had to pay, then surely it would still come under umbrella? Or does he then have to pay out of his pocket for the injury rehab, which doesn't seem fair to me at all.

I just don't want us to get into cap trouble. I can see the headline now, Wests Tigers busted for cap cheating, assisting player after they retire.

It would go along the lines of the Alex McKinnon thing.

His rehabilitation costs would have been astronomical and extend way beyond his contract. The Knights gave him some assistance but I don't think they were obligated to do so beyond in terms of contract.

Benji's injuries aren't that bad. Broken ribs will fix itself and MCL will heal itself and will require rehab for 6-8 weeks max. I don't think the bill would be anything more than 1% of Benji' actual income.

Of course they were obliged to assist Alex beyond his contract, he was hurt performing the duties he was employed for. The NRL was also obliged to assist has he was hurt in a competition that was ran by them.

Newcastle have provided him with a role within the club same as we have done with Dwyer so in a way i suppose they have provided continuing support. Whether that extends to medical and rehab above what any staffer would receive - who knows?

Mine is a very unpopular opinion when it comes to Benji. First up, I think Benji will go down in Wests Tigers history as one of, if not the, best players we have had.

But, I'm not held up on the romance of Benji and having to keep him out of "loyalty". This is professional sports, and professional sports is a tough gig!

When Benji moved on last time, we know that he wasn't playing on form, and he was dropped by the then coach, Mick Potter. We know Benji and Mick didn't see eye to eye all the time.

We know that despite that, the club, under Grant Mayer as CEO offered him a contract to play on.

He wasn't forced out of the club, he made that decision to turn down the contract and move to the Blues. And did that big reveal video in round 22 of season 2013!

Am I going to miss Benji? Yup. Do I think he should retire? Yup. But it's his decision to play on. And wether is roster or cap reasons? The club has made that call.

Some people keep saying the club has a history of treating Benji poorly. Yet 2 departures with 2 different CEOs, 2 different coaches, 2 different boards of directors.

Is it bad that he apparently found out he had been moved on by the press? Of course!

When Benji was hot....he was red hot.
Unfortunately his defence has always been pretty ordinary.
I would have thought Benji was at least good enough for Us to keep as a bench player that's put into the back end of a game when We are behind and desperate for points. As things stand We don't have another that can break a game open like he can.
Has Madge already signed an attacking weapon to take his place?

How on earth did Benji find out he wouldn't be re-signed from reading the newspaper.
If it's a break down in communication on Wests Tigers part, we should be ashamed of ourselves, as I feel he deserves better than that and Our Club should fess up and apologise.

If however it was a case of sour grapes and leaked by someone on his side to make Our Club look bad, as some on here have suggested....well that's just downright disgraceful!
And it does seem from reading this Forum, he may have been a very divisive influence in Our Club anyway.

I feel Our Club could and should end all the controversy
by telling us fans.... did they stuff up in officially telling Benji he wasn't to be re-signed.... or did he in fact read it in the newspaper.

Ideally, Benji should have ended up as an Ambassador for Our Club, but for whatever the reason is? it seems like all bridges have been burnt.

But he lets in like 3 a game ! It’s hard to win when you’re giving an 18 point head start . There’s 2 sides to footy

Last weekend was a litmus test for us . When he went down I thought , well there goes the tries off actual football , we are only scoring off chips to the corner now . But it turns out , a lot of our tries are actually due to clever coaching and slick backline movements as AD slotted straight in , and , he got all the praise. The team looked to have 1 person in charge in brooks as well . To me this is most evident when it’s 5th tackle and who grant would look to first . When benji was on the field it would be him first , and honestly I rarely thought he should have got the ball, but he got it most of the time . It’s funny though because , in my opinion, when Liddle was on , he’d look to brooks first as well . My point is I’m no longer as worried as I was about our attack , as I think we just play good footy . If we can stop the defence leaks by 12 points we should win a lot of footy games .

Lol AD strikes them well . He had a bad night the other night . He was just missing every time . It’s not like he was spraying them all over the place .

For the longest time so many would say that there was nobody else to set up the plays. And the question was if not for Marshall, who would set up the points? Well, amazingly, there is an alternative. Who would have thought? There's actually more than one guy in the club that's capable of playing football. Go figure.

Hi Magpies,

The decision has been made by the Club so it is time to move on. There us no correct way to tell one of our best his time is finished with the Club. Some of the comments made on this Forum about him are average at best and after all he did for WTs it was undeserved.

As for the future, I hope we recruit pace and more pace. Our backs are slugs except for Brooks and Kepaoa.

He's wasn't alone. Imo we cannot afford to have Joey Leilua and Nofoaluma defending together on the right side. And no switching Leilua to the left will only create a weakness on the left.

No. Media/Fox is waiting for him to retire.

Yea apparently he got a analyst job at fox waiting for him if he retired this year, or he got 2 clubs after him

If we continue to spend games in our own half and and not make dominant tackles it won't matter who plays 6 because clubs will run their big men at them and they will score tries. Benji had a good season with ball in hand and he was only part of our defensive issues which go far deeper than removing him to resolve them.
