The Benji everyone is remembering died at the end of 2011. A decade ago,. Ever since he’s been a shadow.

Just played in GF you grub. You are not a fan of this team.

As a sub and not who he was at the WTs....he called the shots for far to long and cost us greatly...AND I LOVE THE WTs as much as the next member and fan...so calling someone a grub because it suits your narrative doesnt cut it with me ...

Denigrating someone's great career on their retirement is grubby to me. Especially when they are arguably the best player this team has ever produced. He is a decent man and at this stage deserves nothing but your respect.

I really couldn’t care less whats grubby to you,

Well dont reply

Ditto

Never did I say I didnt respect the guy....different scenario ...he did his job and then became to old for the job...its called retirement and he now realises its time to move on...

And he did it well and we celebrate the success of him in his retirement, rather than shit on him. He is the best player we ever had. Time to rest the swords and watch his speech.

Mate just to put it in perspective about the great Benj...
he donned an Auckland Blues rugby jumper because he couldnt get his way, went to Saints,Broncos to revive his OLD career and failed but was a useful 14...came back to us thinking he could revive his youth and failed,Madge speared him because of the old culture, went to Souths and was a sub, realised he would never be the young Benji again in this new environment and has retired before he embarrasses himself...
WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW....

Did benji mention Tim Sheens or the Tigers once in his press conference.

Let's hope the media are kind to him because he doesn't have much else apart from the Tigers in terms of legacy.

How many surrogate sons can benette have ?

Watch the press conference. He did a great job. He specifically gave a lot of praise to Sheens and Tigers.

Nice

All you say is true TT. But there is a time for respect. I thought his retirement speech was great and that he gave credence to his roots. I watched him through all his days. He certainly wasn't his best in the last 10 years but he is of good character (so rare) and in my eyes someone we were lucky to have and someone we should cherish as part of the short history of the WT (perhaps more so when we are where we are)

The thing is Glange,Benji was terrific for us when he was introduced to us and coached by Sheens,he was an ICON,but icons get old and need replacing...I understand your love of Benji as do so many others, but in reality if you knew the ins and outs of the club,he as well as some others thought THEY WERE THE WTs and it proved detrimental to the club...along comes Madge with an approach to build from within and all and sundry want him sacked...give Madge a go as we did Benji and maybe he will deliver us a premiership as well...

I feel like am fighting something simple here guys ... Tonight is just about respect for the best player we have ever had . I dont want to argue or discuss his playing career and how it fell away. He retired today! Give it up for one second, celebrate a legend and be proud he was a WT. That's it.

Tigers GOAT , as you get older you get excited about less, when he was in his prime the excitement of watching him play was pretty special

if he was allowed to play origins he would be an imortal. all the other stars get more attention because they can play origin

Probably would have if he left WT and hooked up with Wayne earlier (glad he didn’t)

The finals in 2005, but more for me in 2010/2011 and watching him was better than any drug I might have took in my younger life. No player has ever given me that again. Those were EPIC moments 🙂

They are not worth arguing with mate. The vast majority of not just Tigers fans but Rugby League fans agree with you.
Benji is a giant of the sport and well respected.

We are lucky to have had him in our colours for so long. Plenty of faults, but his highs were higher than any. That run around 2009-11 was next level.
Hopefully we can get him involved at the club in some capacity, even if it's just as an ambassador or similar. Get him in the ear of potential recruits selling the club.

Greatest tiger ever. Blessed to have him. So many good memories. He gave everything when he put the jersey on. Hope they put him in the coaches box. We need more tiger dna in the club.
