That was a super article.

Probably even more than the GF in 05, the game against Saints in the PF.
What anticipation walking to the ground, people were losing it, Never seen atmosphere like that even with larger crowds, and the focus square on Benji. So what does he do, within a few minutes runs past the Australian international centres to score the softest of tries, even they were mesmerized.

Can see him doing something again on Sunday. Good on him but sadly it will detract from our moment.

I can see him missing the tackle that costs Souths the game .....

This is Happy
Happy's a wet blanket

The build up to that game helped in the atmosphere.
Saints had a break, had 2 weeks head start on us and were snapping up all the tickets, we had to get past brisbane so it was 75% stains fans there
They all expected to go straight thru to the GF....I went with my son who was 9 at the time, had a small sign made up specially for full time ...2 GF TIX WANTED!
Got some nasty looks from saints fans leaving the ground holding that up lol

What an amazing 4 weeks that was, lucky to attend all the games

I have been to test matches, state of origin matches, grand finals and EPL matches in England but that game against the dragons was the greatest sporting event I have ever witnessed. The Tigers were given a standing ovation and that was just the warm ups. Sitting next to me was an old Italian lady on her own and was the most unlikely league fan you could ever meet. At the end of the game she was crying profusely and hugging everyone in sight. It felt like the ground was shaking with the tigers chant.

That TEAM gave me those special memories....yeah only a brief perioud in a 21 year history, and more going back to the 70s personally
People saying we wouldnt have won without Benji, or Prince, Or Hodgo.....they ALL provided those memories
Benji was a big part of all that

Good luck to him but in my opinion he was one of the most overrated players ever. Sure he had a couple of good seasons but for every good game you got 5 stinkers. He was an important part of 2005 sure but it was Scott Prince that got us to the big one

I did a binge last night and watched the 2005 final series. I can tell you that benji scored a try or had a try assist in every game and was an integral part of our success. The try against the dragons early of the scrum was why we won that game. It showed me we could beat them and got us off in the right foot. The grand final break and flick pass before half time changed the momentum of that game. Prince was the man main and his kicking game and structures were unbelievable. Could we have won without prince? Definitely not. Could we have won without benji? Definitely not.

Always a legend for us … but hope him and the turds from South’s lose by 50+ and are totally embarrassed along with that clown Bennett.

don't want Cleary winning a comp the way he treated us

We wouldn't have won if just one of those guys weren't apart of that team, it was a team with a special bond and special belief.

The sad thing is that those players were the last group of players that truly loved the club - don't think those who made decisions understood how valuable that was.

Hope that 2nd GF ring comes your way Benji! No sour grapes here, will always be glad of the great things you did with WT!

I was on a footy trip in Adelaide. Still remember we had some trouble finding a bar playing the game. Grown men around me (Dragons fans) were crying. It was the best.

Yep.....hundreds of stunned saints fans in tears at full time....while WTs fan were jubilant.....never seen anything like it

Was at a wedding that weekend in Byron. Watched it at the pub which was almost totally Dragon supporters, enjoyed the first half but the crowd was getting pretty hostile and we sensed a great result so grabbed a few beers and watched the 2nd half back at the motel room. Jumping around and cheering it was a fun night.

Best game I’ve ever been too. I remember because Saints had the week off, their supporters got in first ticket wise, and the ratio was something like 70-30 Dragons fans, but that 30% that were there for the Tigers dominated. The atmosphere was incredible. Wests and Balmain supporters releasing a life time of depression in the most fanatical way. Very cathartic.

You should have told the old Italian lady to make you some food.

He was covered in spiders that day! I was actually at Shark Pk in a corporate box, my wife & I the only Tigers fans. Ended up watching it from the outside seats so we could cheer, it was like a funeral service inside lol
