Agree ink, about the cambo stuff. Very disappointing, it's such a large and growing area and I simply don't understand why we can't tap into it better. Know lot's of people living in cambo for a while who are simply NOT tigers supporters. You'd struggle to find that in Balmain. I've never lived in cambo so I'm not sure what the issue is or how to solve it but the club needs to make an obvious effort to rectify it.

That signing before a cambeltown game in macarthur square was a nice start, but nothing since then.

the difference is that the Balmain area has had a team to support for over 100 years - there is a culture that if you are born or live in the area you are a tiger supporter. Campbelltown is different - no team to support until a struggling magpie outfit moved there - there was no previous culture - the magpies were building that culture until times changed - WT have failed to build on that culture and have alienated a lot of people in the area - the other problem is that a lot of people move to the area from other parts of the city and continue to follow the side they previously followed - i would think that would be true of people form Balmain moving to the northern beaches - they wouldn't start following Manly ( at least i hope they wouldn't ) - WT need to recognise and promote the area as theirs and start building a long term presence and culture.

To add to this, people are voting with their feet. I live in Campbelltown and we have struggled to crack more than 10K each home game. I get the feeling that a lot of people have given up on the game in our area. In 2014, we need to play the big clubs out there instead of at Leichhardt. Let's play the Storm or the Bulldogs again. The Dogs have a big supporter base in Macarthur and we got a crowd of 19K last time we played them there.

But I thought that the magpies were founded in 1908 along with a lot of other clubs?

Wests were based at Ashfield in 1908

I don't think Campbelltown was even on the map back then?

Exactly Winnipeg.Campbelltown is an area where people have migrated to from all over Sydney .at junior league games you see kids and adults wearing every teams colors . I personally prefer Campbelltown over all our other venues

Hahaha….''buy into the new culture"

New culture.....is this the culture that of course pumps up the Leichhardt games in these articles, our big players always put pen to paper before a LO game.....and on the official website advertised tickets to the round 19 home game @ LO and round 21 AWAY game interstate....yet ignores another game in between in rd 20 at HOME at you guessed it - Cambo.

Whilever this sorta crap continues....there is no new culture

Enough is enough , move on and stop bringing up the same old rivalry. This new management seems to be doing quite well . We are one now, the mighty Wests Tigers.

This ^^^^^^ its getting quite boring when wests v Balmain hijacks threads

Yeah i refuse to buy into it. Either you support the team or you don't. We are one club, not two. We all need to erase this mentality that there are two sides to the one club. Wests Tigers don't see it this way, a lot of fans don't see it this way but it's hard to deny there is a portion of this clubs fans that feel there needs to be a greater emphasis on a certain portion of the club. Fact is, NO there doesn't. We look after the clubs best interests as a whole. Either we buy into it or we don't.

Got to be careful making statements like that here. Every campbelltown home game gets a thread about how poor the crowd was, but last game at the lilyfield rectangle with just as poor a crowd didn't rate a mention on here. We seem to be a pro-tigers club and forum, but I think I'm learning to accept it. Just happy to have some representation in the NRL instead of being like the bears.

I believe the board are focusing on making us just more a Sydney based team than an area specific team. Not sure if it's a great long term strategy but its not my call and hopefully the decisions pay off. Time will tell.

X2.

Some just can't let go. Seems to be the older generation.

It'll go away soon. Surely these old fogies can't be kicking around to much longer.

Fortunately, it's the older generation that tends to keep this forum from degenerating into silly squabbles and immature name-calling.

Stuff like "old fogies", that sort of thing.

I think that we will be definitely "kicking" something for quite a while yet!

Whilever the **club** highlites one half and ignores the other…...it will be mentioned by someone.

Dont have a go at a member that refuses to stick their head in the sand and swallow this.

Why would you ignore one HOME game and focus on the following away game?
Someone give me a logical explanation

Long live the Baby Boomers I say !!

Anyway back on topic Benjis contract is only being upgraded not extended, and I am ok with that, gives him time to play well again and warrant an extention later.

Exactly Muffstar. With the current deal expiring in 2015, there's really no rush to sign an extension….especially in his current form. Wait till this time next season and review it then.

If we do upgrade Marshalls contract it will prove one thing , we are the masters at rewarding mediocrity

Nup. I totally disagree and resent that. I think the current management have made some good and bold decisions.

Anyway, isn't the upgrade part of Benji's contract re salary cap increase…?
if we do not even keep our word on our contracts (good or bad) then why would anyone sign with us in the future?
What would not re-signing Benji say about our club and our people?
Re-signing Benji shows integrity and loyalty. Great business acumen if you ask me.

I agree with this post in the sense that the Tigers are honouring their initial agreement with Benji for THIS contract. Any talk of extending him beyond 2015 at this stage is far too premature and I don't agree with that.

Yeah we wouldn't want our supposed superstars to earn the big dollars they demand

Both the club and the player have to honour each other and from the way I see it , only one is living up to the deal

If you are a 500k a season player you need to play like a 500 k player at least 80 percent of the time , not whenever it suits you

The past is the past , and Benji has been way off the mark

Announcement tomorrow apparently with an expected one season extension….on top of the upgrade

The "I'll never play against Wests Tigers" line must really work

That is correct.. When Wests Tigers offer contracts to existing and new players there is likelihood that they (the players) may doubt the integrity of the offer and knock it back. .

Rubbish. No player was forced to leave. The Tigers have never bot honoured a contract. They have simply said you are no longer in our plans and if you can get a better deal elsewhere, you should. Thats been happening in league since 1908.

So the players once they sign contracts don't have to earn their pay checks

Great idea ,turn the players into protected species once they sign on the bottom line

You guys need some experiences in the real world , because it doesn't work that way in realitytown
