I like potter he doesn't mince words… Haha

also, I would like to see anasta in a coaching role at tigers after he retires. similar to a fiddler or kimorely . Hes a perfect role model for the younger guys on how to conduct themselves off the field... He seems a top bloke and not an egomaniac like the subject matter of this thread...

If we had Benji today we would have lost , Potter does not want him full stop he can go to the tiger sharks he will be lucky to get 200k a season.

Benji reckons he'd never play against the Tigers, but geez I reckon he'd take any opportunity to come back to league now. Unless Anasta retires tomorrow, I can't see us making a play.

I'm a Benji fan. When he was on song, I loved watching him play.

We smashed the EELS tonight. It was tough, it was close, and we won. No crabs in sight.

Would we have have won with Marshall there? My word is no. Tonight the Tigers showed they are an excellent team. An excellent team! Should we go backwards??????

I wonder how he woukd go if we signed him to play centre.

If he came back to play for Wests Tigers can you imagine the instability and tension which would creep into the team because his play wasn't to first grade level?

Don't want him back in any shape or form
He's a hack always was always will be
His next destination should be the bearing sea
Where he can crab till his hearts content
He's not a footballer
He's a diva .

Tigers close the door on Marshall return

Former Wests Tigers superstar Benji Marshall will quit rugby and seek a return to the NRL, his manager has confirmed.

The Wests Tigers have ruled out re-signing club great Benji Marshall with the New Zealand superstar seeking an immediate release from his Super Rugby contract.

The former New Zealand rugby league Test skipper has failed to make an impression in limited opportunities for the Auckland-based Blues during eight Super Rugby games since his move from the Tigers at the end of last season.

However, Tigers CEO Grant Mayer says the joint-venture have moved on from Marshall and their main focus is on keeping young fullback James Tedesco and Curtis Sironen.

"Benji made a decision last year in regard to his future," Mayer said on Monday night.

"It was disappointing at the time for the club and the fans but we've moved on and we have been pretty active in keeping our kids; that is my priority.

"But he'll find a home somewhere, we just don't have the room in the (salary) cap."

The Blues and New Zealand Rugby confirmed late on Monday they had received a request from Marshall over the weekend to be released early from his contract.

"All parties are currently in discussions regarding this request and need to work through a formal process before making any further comment," a short Blues statement said.

Marshall has instructed his manager Martin Tauber to open talks with NRL clubs.

Cronulla, St George Illawarra, Parramatta, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Warriors are all being linked to him.

The move comes less than a year after Marshall pledged he would never play against the Tigers.

"I will honour my words about not playing for another (NRL) club," he said in July last year, announcing his intention to leave the code.

"There is no other NRL club for me to play for. The Tigers are my home and will always be my home.

"I have seen guys like Mark O'Neill leave, go to England and then come back to the club.

"I am hoping to do the same in some capacity after I retire."

The move comes after a weekend meeting with Sir John Kirwan in which the Blues coach suggested he either play the rest of the season in the lower tiers to help prepare him for the 2015 Super Rugby competition or return to league.

"It just hasn't worked out, it is disappointing," Tauber told News Corp.

"He's not had the game time he'd like.

"This has all happened over the last 36 hours."

Asked if Marshall would be moving back to Sydney, Tauber said they had not spoken to any NRL clubs yet.

"It might be Queensland or it might be NSW, it depends who is interested in him," he said.

Had to happen…he was woeful friday nite, but really mo worse than he's been for WT the past couple of seasons.
His hubris & ego is his worst enemy...he thinks Rugby is the problem.
Only a desperate Warriors wld be interested surely...Sharks have one of their own in carney, who works well with Robson as a foil.
..& forget about the $750k he was offered by WT...those days are over.

He might have something to offer as a fullback.

I just done see it in the halves, those days are gone. The dogs might be a smokey.

we cant fit him in our salary cap, will he play for free ?
If he said yes im sure Mayer will still say no.

Its a shame how the back end of his career went downhill in the last few years.
I'd support Benji till he retires but it will be painful to watch him play against WT .

Mayer just pretty much ruled signing Benji out on twitter

Benji made a tough decision last season and we've moved on. Brooks, Moses, Simona, Sue, etc etc retained. Club fav but our future positive.

Yeah I think it will be painful too. But I just can't find a spot for him. He would have to play for nothing, expect to be a reserve grader ( with a possibility of a call up). It's not really the way I would want to see Benj finish up. I'm sure one day he will stroll back in and be welcomed with open arms as one of our legends. As he should be. But there is no spot in our current first grade side for him .

I don't want him back here, WT have moved on and are playing much better now. That said, it just wouldn't be right seeing him line up against us in the colours of another NRL team and that was never going to happen either, according to Benji himself. Keep your word, Benji and go off to Super League instead.

I don't really want him here to upset the apple cart, but I wouldn't rule it out. Look at the furious way they were going about memberships he won't help this season but next it would be a boost to that and sponsorship. I wouldn't take anything Mayer says literally it would be a board choice if we could offload a couple of fringe players aren't we NRL controlled now? Anything could happen..
