Besieged WT's cut big $ deal to move home games to ANZ

Cant say I'm excited about our coaching appointments…I see very little injection of new ideas and structure with these guys...where is a good halves and defensive coach?...that is what we need...again I feel the lack of $$$ was a major influence on these selections....surely they are not the best assistant coaches on the market...which is what they should be aiming for!

Yes I want to know who will be looking after defense.
Lets not forget this may all well be totally off base….this is from james Hooper who I just heard on the roast say that Watti holmwood the origin streaker had form for doing the same thing ''at campbellton stadium '' some years ago

From what I hear kidwell is a strict disciplinarian, I also think in today's age it's good to have an islander on the coaching staff, happy with the appointments.

I may be on my own here but i always preferred homebush to the sfs, the atmosphere isn't as good but it's so much easier to get to and get away from

I like the appointments of the assistants. Kidwell will be the hard nut that blasts the players when they're slacking off. Payten will be the one players confide in, and will be able to help with player morale.

As for homebush… I'm surprised we've gone for a 10 year deal. Seems like too long to me. Our games could be worth more than we think in 10 years time so I hope we're not selling ourselves short. I'm also surprised we've only gone for 4 games... Does this mean we'll still be playing at campbelltown/leichhardt for another decade?

As for the 12th game... I could see them taking the broncos game to suncorp. We'd be giving up a home game but a 30000+ crowd would be guaranteed. Plus it'd give us a chance to sell Brisbane based memberships

I like all the news to be honest.
Payten has shown he has the qualities of a good coach.
Kidwell could prove to be as useful as Kearney. Though I like the idea of an Islander coach with many young Islander forwards coming through.
ANZ isn't as good viewing wise but is definately more our area so a move there is fair enough to me. It will be interesting to see where this extra game ends up at.
I think Potter may be in charge of defense with Kidwell.

ANZ is a tragic ground. I hate this decision. I can't think of anything worse than 12k out at that concrete jungle. It's a joke and does the brand no favours. This is purely a financial decision and to me is a perfect example of rugby league selling its soul for cash.

Still four home grounds. A different CEO but the same decisions, very disappointing.

We will never go back to 6/6

Was thinking more of having one home ground actually Ink. 600k for 4 games means that we turned down 1.2mil for the other 8\. And we wonder why we got no $

i reckon all the pros and cons of these moves have been covered in this thread… eager to see how it goes.

sorting out all the off-field stuff will be the priority before on-field

I would guess the losses from ditching Cambo & Leichhardt completely would outweigh any profit a f/t move to ANZ would make.

The club has been collecting data for years, even just by reading these forums its evident many fans have their preference. Eight or nine years of having 3 grounds or more has led to the WTs fan being very picky….
I can see its a very fine balancing act keeping supporters happy yet generating an income from games
Dont get me wrong, I too would love just ONE ground....but as a JV these are the problems that will always confront us

$1.2m (guesstimate) from ANZ and $1m from Wests group on offer for us. But we choose to put the hand out for asisstance from the NRL. I dont get it.

Well no memberships for me next season it had to be 8 and 2 x 2 for me ..if I had my way all games would be at the Stadium..tied of all the garbage re these two, crap, grounds .The Weststigers will Never progress it's memberships with these 2 grounds of mediocre amenities .One day the powers to be will wake up ..real leadership makes the hard notices.

Excellent point …. I too have a big question mark as to why Mayer has locked us in for ten years. A lot can change in that time. Or could it be the day comes we play out of ANZ permanently ?

Possibly because when you have a 10 year guaranteed income stream you are much better prepared for a long term structural re-building.

Lets face facts in terms of facilities and support staff we are starting from rock bottom.

The sooner Wests Tigers breaks even or posts profit the closer we can be to substantive change of governance

I wonder if our membership will increase with homebush back in mix?

Multiple home grounds does dent our membership numbers.. Also curious to see what packages are offered.

Moving that 12th game elsewhere may also be good for brand exposure. Maybe perth.

I do wonder though how clubs would be operating if ANZ & Allianz did not pay teams to play at such grounds… Would they be struggling financially? Would they be pleading to gov for suburban upgrades?

Will it stop one day if revenue drops from in ground advertising and people turning off low alcohol beer and $18 for a chips and coke...

This move was always going to happen. It's happened and now it as, can we get one think straight.

ANZ Stadium is in Sydney Olympic Park, not Homebush.

They say atleast 4 games per year to be at Anz I would expect this will be increased gradually over the years with only 1 or 2 games played at campbo and the old girl I think the club have made thier decision and will ease us to Anz gradually over the years. At least that may stabilise us financially for the future that's what matters to me most, having a team to support.

Yep,on the surface without knowing all the ins & outs its a very naive Business decision but there may be other forces in play such as delaying basing the Team fulltime in the Campbelltown region.

In the the near future, Leichhardt Oval will be like the SCG where we play one historic game there.

Campbelltown Stadium has a big future ahead as Grant Mayer has marked it down in his plans as the Stadium lays within a major growth region. I could not be surprised if we see:

6 ANZ Stadium
3 Campbelltown Stadium
1 Leichhardt Oval
