Big name player in trouble

Curiously waiting to see what penalty is actually given to Mitchell Pearce, by the NRL.

Will it be " acceptable" 😛ray: or will he be given different treatment, due to influential roosters power brokers. :unamused:

Monaghan copped it sweet at the time and has continued to cop it sweet ever since. This is what was said on his behalf:

_''It was a moment of abject stupidity brought about by too much drink and a complete lack of any thought process. The fact that someone has sought to compound the situation further by the use of social media only adds to the trauma but Joel accepts that it is his actions alone that are at fault. He apologises unreservedly for the outrage that people feel at the moment, and blames nobody but himself.''_

He's not actually banned for life from the NRL, he has just decided not to come back. I think he actually asked for the release at the time too because he didn't want to face the shame of fronting NRL crowds. I don't know that the NRL ever actually imposed any sanction on him, so you can't really draw any parallels between his situation/punishment and that of Pearce.

Pearce watched Australia Day video with his mum
7SportFebruary 29, 2016, 6:17 pm

Disgraced NRL star Mitchell Pearce says he's returned from rehab with the tools to beat his binge-drinking problem. In an exclusive one-on-one with 7News NRL reporter Liam Cox, Pearce was extremely candid about the issues he's dealing with. The 25-year-old admitted he has a serious problem with alcohol. "When I drink I've never reacted well to it. "Do I drink every day? No, but I am a binge drinker. "When I saw it in front of my face and saw how selfish my actions have been it was pretty scary." However Pearce denied he has a drug problem. "No, not at all. Alcohol has been the big issue for me."

Pearce has revealed the first time he watched the infamous Australia Day video was while he was with his mum. "One of the most embarrassing things I've ever done to be honest. "When I watched it for the first time it made me sick. "My mum is such a lovely person that she still supported me." The fallen star says he was unaware he was being filmed but does not intent to take any legal action against the person responsible.

Pearce spent a month at a Thai rehab clinic before returning to Sydney on Sunday. The video shot of a drunk Pearce, which included him simulating a sex act with a dog, is likely to incur a heavy fine, as well as a six-game suspension from the NRL. However 7News understands coach Trent Robinson is pushing for a lighter four-week ban. Pearce is to learn his punishment later this week

Ha it wasn't drugs.

I was flogged out of my gourd, absolutely hammered, toweled, pissed as a newt, three sheets to the wind, Franz Liszt, maggotted, burned, stomped, plastered, tanked, blasted, off me tits, sozzled, blotto, sloshed, slaughtered, smashed, blizted, ripped, off my head, out of my skull, wasted, paralytic, cut,

But no drugs involved, so it's ok. Oh, alcohol is a drug?

You are correct but that is a different argument, one is legal the other illegal that is a different argument as well. Inconsistencies for sure, that is life

Mitchell Pearce video: Contrite star stripped of Sydney Roosters captaincy….............

A statement issued by the Roosters on Monday night said the club's board had noted that Pearce had missed the Nines, the World Club Series match against St Helens in England, an off-season training camp in Dubai and Sunday's opening round premiership match against Souths.

If Pearce did truly these events plus losing the captaincy surely that is sufficient for about 1 or 2 minutes of stupidity. The club is also responsible for taking him out on the grog in the first place.

If they did rip up his contract and dad brought him to WT at bargain price bring it on - he has no injuries! He can read the Culture Club booklet and take the oath before leaving the premises.

You would be joking - surely.

He had his chance of wanting to play for us and turned his back.

We just need an idiot playing for us - not as good as Brooks anyway.

Somehow i don't think Thailand is where you should be sending a young Aussie male with a binge drinking problem…!

Interesting that they call the Sheraton 'rehab' these days.

If the Roosters seriously think a 2-4 game suspension is all that's warranted for a repeat offender like him they've got another think coming. The Integrity Unit and that female advisor will rip him to shreds.

I hope your right, but we all know the Chooks seem to get their way with most things at NRL HQ. I still say the Chooks will plead for two weeks, but expect six weeks. I think they are trying to avoid the NRL going hard on Junior/junior by pleading for a low suspension

Did joel do it pants on or pants off?

Other than being a drunk fool, what's he really guilty of?

Is it a good look? No, not at all. But what does suspending him prove? Does that stop everyone else on the planet from drinking like fools?

Does it make the NRL more popular to the general public?

Suspending & fining players isn't remembered down the road. These guys who 'get caught' with alcohol problems should be put into programs, and then do some kind of community awareness type tasks.

Sacking players like Carney, fining & suspending players like Pearce… it proves nothing. Achieves nothing.

They aren't interested in rehabilitating themselves because they don't see it as a problem. Rehabilitation programs are not magic bullets and if people don't engage then nothing will be achieved. Threatening their livelihood is the only form of deterrent that works. It may not stop them from ever doing it again but it will discourage them for a time.

And yes, the NRL are operating on the basis that discouraging their players from embarrassing themselves and the NRL while trollied will make the NRL brand more appealing to a broader section of the public.

mitchell pearce, sober, comes across as a reasonable young man.

i wish him no harm and encourage him to continue play rugby league, but not in the near future.

if the roosters hand down a soft penalty, the nrl have to intervene.

no amount of razzamataz and promotion of the 2016 season will override a limp penalty to pearce.

i hate injustice and hypocrisy.

if pearce is dealt with leniently, both injustice and hypocrisy reign supreme.

I listened to him being interviewed on nrl360 tonight and he was contrite and sounded to be genuine in admitting to and owning the stuff up as recognising how he can't handle alcohol. I must admit that I've never had much time for the bloke but on tonight's discussion I Hope he turns it around and goes forward and importantly he accepts whatever consequences are handed to him by the nrl. On that point, the nrl need to stand up as well and not be influenced by the roosters in terms of suspensions/fines handed out.

He is guilty of massively bringing the NRL into disrepute. What did Hoppa snr get his 12 or so week suspension for when he pulled his disgusting prank vs the Cowboys? He didn't hurt anyone but still copped the wrath of the NRL and rightly so. Mitchell Pearce has also disgraced our game so should cop the same suspension Hoppa got. No question.
We all know he will get off very lightly,a few tears here and there that he has shed will garner much sympathy from the PC types. There are different rules for different clubs, we will see this proven again when Mitch cops his ####weak punishment from NRL HQ.
