Blake Austin in 2015

My god we are soft when it comes to player retention . Austin should be told to suck it up and told you're not going anywhere ! If Austin remains a utility player for next year than so be it IMO .

Blake: Tell the coach I want a permanent 5/8 spot next year.
GM: ok find a coach first .

Blake reminds me of Inglis in his running style of play, and his tenacity to fight for the ball.
He's been ok at fullback when there, as well as five eighth. So maybe like Inglis, he could make a decent centre too.
He'll play, somewhere, no doubt, unless something miraculous happens with our S&C team, and we suddenly learn how to keep a first grade team fit and on the field.

I haven't seen 1 direct quote from Austin saying he is demanding the starting 6 spot just more media fluff yet peeps are lapping it up….funny stuff

The thing i must say about Austin is , he has really matured as a player this year and you can tell that he has got his house in order away from the footy field and is really obvious . Away from the field he is Coaching a Doonside team i believe and has finally put his of field troubles behind him .
Gus always said this kid Austin playing in Reserve Grade at Penrith can play , and i remember a couple of years ago Gus stating that in a Live Telecast , during a Panthers game he said " Rabs there is this kid by the name of Austin who can play " and he reminded him of a young Fittler , when he was coming through . That was about 4 years ago .
Austin leads by example , just let's his Footy doing the talking .
Anyone reckon if i email Mayer in regards with Austin that i will get a reply or am i just wasting my tiime ?
He has won me over long time ago and i don't want to look at him in another Jersey and think to myself we once had him but only thought of him as Utility and the Club let him realize his potential elsewhere a bit like the (Fafita ) scenario we had a couple of years ago.
Thoughts?

My son was the ARL Development Officer, when Blake was in his last year at Primary School. I cannot remember the exact details, but he was the Player Of The Year and my son made the presentation to him.
He has followed Blake's career since and he is aware of the big wraps that Penrith had on him, as he came through the Penrith junior representative system. He is **NOT** a big head, but he just wants some-one to understand his desires for his footballing future, so he can focus his efforts in one direction.

I don't feel like going to work anymore.
I wonder if I can break my contract for more money elsewhere.

Any suggestions ? (no toilet humour)

@Irvine,I don't think Blake will go anywhere unless he asks the new coach for a release, but understands he has a year to go on his contract,I think he will dig in and fulfil the one year left if he is refused. He is in my opinion professional enough to know the rules regarding releases ..let's hope he stays or if he goes good luck to him …..  :sign:

From what I have been reading which goes along with what Austin has said, that he wants to be the 6.

I think it has just come to the point where Austin may not be as prepared as he once was to be shifted around. That and the club ear marking the 6 for Moses, is incompatible.re

I wouldn't want Austin to stay under those circumstances as he deserves a position and it wouldn't feel right to me to force him to keep getting stuffed around for another season to hold a position for an unknown NRL comp quantity.

So I am happy for the club to let him go.

I wonder if the salary cap will come into this. He's currently on a 2nd tier NSW Cup contract, which is probably why we blew out our 2nd tier cap so quickly this season. Given that he's probably on $50-75k + incentives (for which he would have got a lot last season).

The same pattern will repeat next year and really you shouldn't have someone from the 2nd tier playing 20 odd games in a season. No idea how his contract would be setup but ideally it would be in WT's interests to give him a higher base, fewer incentives and have him in the top 25.

But we still shoudn't be letting him go, unless it comes down to him or TMM in which case Martin wins.

Any more news on Blake?…..hope we keep the Champ!!!

I mentioned this in another thread but Blake posted the following image on his Instagram account recently. I don't think I'm reading too much into it to say that it could mean he is staying.

I think we really need to keep him. Even if only for next year. It will give Moses some more time to develop at 6 and he is a great player who can cover so many positions.

I doubt that Jason Taylor would want Blake to leave, even though he has Moses for 5/8\. To be fair Austin would have to be in front of Moses for the job and Mitchell may just have to earn the No.6 jersey through onfield performance.

I hope whoever gets the spot has to have earned it on the field, and I also hope that it doesn't stop there, and whoever doesn't get it keeps piling on the pressure to get the spot back.
