Blake Austin is playing the game of his life

If NSW were looking for a utility player , he wouldn't be out of place

Queensland could be looking for a few after yesterday…

Why do people keep talking about the Tigers "Letting him go"
He signed a 2 year deal with the Raiders starting next year after we baulked at releasing him the first time.
Then requested a release for this year… He didn't want to be here and had already made arrangements for his career post WT's... There was no point to keeping him!!

Because we did. The club publicly backed Moses and as such left him little option.

Its not rocket science.

In his own words -

"He [Stuart] only ever wanted to speak to me as a five-eighth and for someone who wanted to lock in one position it was all I wanted to hear," Austin said. "I've been moved around a lot in my career and I feel like I'm only going to get better.

"I'm just loving every week I turn up to training. I know what I've got to work on, I know where I'm going to be playing at the end of the week and I think I'm reaping the rewards of that."

'Its all he wanted to hear' One position and a future.

We didnt offer it to him because we are heavily invested in Brooks and Moses.

It is so basic i cant believe people are still arguing it.

I completely agree with this. Its the same argument with Koro. We didn't do anything to keep Koro and Austin because our belief was that we had better options.

I don't believe that you can state that we were correct on either of these calls at this point.

That is because our Club has got a fetty for Moses :unamused: , Austin was the one in form last year and Moses had no right to take the 5/8 position of him . But our Club love the Word potential , give me Austin over Moses anyday.

That is not wishing any bad will on Moses just thought Austin was treated unfairly anyway we live in hope that we have made the right choice in time .

I for one didn't mention Blake for Origin TITG. I stated my opinion that he is a good player and getting better. Read the post. :unamused: As for Origin why not? Can't do any worse then some.

I totally agree TM , if Form is ever to be rewarded ? he is a walk in . A no brainer really :unamused:

Or do they want to go with the incumbent GRUB Josh Reynolds

I also hope that we also make the right choice if it comes to a stage when we have to choose between Martin or Moses.

You know what really saddens me Newtown that we never needed to let him go , i mean is our Salary Cap situation seriously that bad ? he wasn't signed on a lot of money either i believe for the 2nd year.
We just persist with players that are out of form continually being played .

What i believe happened during the Coaches interviews was , they were asked who they believed was our halves Combo going forward and because our Manager and Board agreed to invest so heavily on the Brooks and Moses combo , who ever answered them and would persist with them got the Job .

We keep talking about it because it was a stupid decision. Austin was contracted to the Wests Tigers and he should have stayed here. Just like letting Koro go. Dumb Dumb Dumb.
On the other hand letting Blair go was s good decision.

Nothing would surprise me FT, with Laurie Daley running the show…

He knew he wasn't going to get any first grade, so he signed with the Raiders.

The decision was made for us.

I was sad to see him go, but we might be saying the same about him if we'd let him go somewhere else. You can't keep them all.

Maybe we could have sent him to England for a couple of years to see how Moses turned out?? Doubt he would've been keen on that though…

Well said. Clubs have to make choices on who to keep sometimes and those decisions sometimes prove themselves wrong over time. IMO Moses will be a better player than Austin, but Austin probably deserved to be playing ahead of Moses at the back end of last season. It is no surprise that he got disgruntled TBH.

For every 10 players we let go one always stands up and people will complain about.

Blake asked for a release to get an easier option to play 1st grade, he did the same at the Panthers.

If a player doesn't want to be here why keep him especially one that has an off field record.

People are bagging decision to stick with Mosses however failed to realise that Blake on the field demands the attention away from the other play makers which would limit Tedesco, Brooks and Farahs ability. Blake is a very selfish player in general and when your trying to build a team as such whilst he is a good player he isn't a fit for what we need or a building towards. I doubt he could do what Farah, Moses or Brooks are doing and pull themselves back into the structure Taylor is installing within the club.

I think Austen could do really well at origin level. He is a no frills type player with a massive competitive streak. SOO games are not usually skilled based games, rather a massive physical battle. I think their are plenty of no6's who are more skilled but for a SOO match I think he is close to the best we have available. Although he must be instructed not to kick as it is not his strong suit.

As for us and Austen, we had already committed a fair chunk of our salary cap towards Moses, so they both could not play no6 and Moses was contracted through to the end of 2017\. It was a simple call in the end and we will probably not know for a couple of years if it was the right call

Well to be fair to Austin had he had the opportunity to stay and play 5/8 i'm sure he would of .
But obviously Austin went to the Tigers and said Raiders have offered me a 3 year deal and playing 5/8th as well . I imagine the Wests Tigers said to him " mate i advice you to take up that offer as Moses and Brooks is the combination we see in the foreseeable future " IMO.
