Blake Austin is playing the game of his life

Makes me sick watching him tear teams apart every week. Everyone says he didn't want to be here - so what he was contracted and probably not on the sort of money that was going to help our cap problems. Our recruitment/retention people are the ones who should be sacked.

If we hadn't committed 5/8 to an untested rookie and gave Austin a fair dinkum chance of playing 6 Austin would still be here and playing 5/8 for the Tigers…simple,,,

the only player we've let go we shouldn't have and yes if he was given the 5/8 spot, he'd still be here.

Good luck to him.

Would loved to have kept him, but money he is on we couldn't have matched anyway, so he would have gone soon enough.

I'd love to see him in the SOO - at least NSW would have ONE player with some sort of X Factor instead of the pedestrian crap they keep selecting. But then again, he is in form, so there is no chance of getting picked. I think we are overdue for the weird bolter selection of some nuffy from Manly aren't we?

Good luck to Blake Austin. He is earning everything he gets.

Well, it ain't breakin' my heart.

I only want players that want to be here.

Before you say - "if he got the 5/8 spot he would have stayed"

He will never reach the heights that Moses will - Imo.

Austin quickly became one of my favourties when he joined us and I still love watching him play.

But I agree in a way with Russell. If things work out, it'll be a matter of short term pain long term gain. I know it's a massive if, but we have these kids and we're just going to have to wait it out for them to reach their potential. It'll come with age and experience.

No point crying over spilt milk.

For God's sake, **how much longer are we going to harp on about this?**

Most of us (myself included,) think it was a stupid idea to let him go. Our concerns have been vindicated.

We are where we are, and complaining about this decision won't improve or change our current situation though. Some of you must like picking at your scabs.

2022…

Wait until he is chosen as a rep player - there will be conniptions going on everywhere!

Are they very expensive??

He doing wonders for my SuperCoach team, ( just in case anyone wants to know)
In three weeks he's recouped all the points I lost on Moses early on.

We are just fans, albeit passionate ones.

There are fairly highly paid professionals that have been responsible for him playing for someone other than us this year. I cant see why its not worth asking the question over and over; why?

This thread has potentiallly a very long way to go. He was awesome for us and so many said he was no more than a selfish ball hog. Well now he's a n awesome selfish ball hog in Canberra and absolutely killing it. I bet Raiders fans are laughing at us.

Austin was on fox last night and they asked him about leaving the tigers..

He said wt said his free to look to go to other clubs as Moses is the priority.

Austin said he respects the tigers for how they are backing brooks and Moses and said he wished the panthers had done the same to him.

He makes a good point.

i said it a lot on here: he earned the 6 last season with a heap of fortitude and patience and deserved to be the starter there this season. i really believe moses should have been made to earn that spot off him, but that was just not the plan, so austin rightly left.

good on him. hes a good guy and deserves to be successful.

Well i hope that clears up for the ones who keep trying to say the club didnt get rid of him.

In todays game that means you go or you sit in reserve grade until your contract runs out.

Love the comment about Penrith not doing the same for him.

All that is really left to decipher in this story is was it Mayer or Taylor who made the call.

Before Taylor had his meet and greet with all the players Austin remained in limbo. Given the timing of it i would say it was a Taylor decision with Moss looking at the books and playing his part.

Shows the quality of the guy.

Hosts leave it wide open for him to take some easy cheap shots that would make him look no worse, and make our lot look like complete Chumps (moreso)

Instead he speaks truth, and actually defends their stance, citing the fact he would have like the same faith shown to him by his ex-ex club.

Good Guy Austin meme needed.

This is why so many people like him.

Legend of guy who has worked for everything he has got.

I think everyone already knows that the Tigers let Austin go because they had a truck load of cash tired up in Moses on a long term contract and Austen has shown his class by not having a cheap shot at the Tigers. I just think a better option would have been to play Austen at no6 and bring Moses along a little slower, he still would have got plenty of game time, with injuries and players being unavailable.

The good thing it has worked out really well for Austen and Moses being thrown in at the deep end will probably fast forward his development a bit even if his form has not been that flash

I think even then Austin would have wanted to leave.
Knowing you're only going to be kept on for another 12 months isn't great and Austin is better than that.
The opportunity to have a long term halves position would have been much more appealing to him.

If Austin played for us like he's been playing for the Raiders, the supporters would have burnt down the grandstand if the club had of moved him after the season he's having.

That's the trouble with putting all your eggs( or in this case, Dollars) in an untried basket.
No one in authority would've wanted to be the one to admit that maybe they had misjudged
Either player.
So whatever anyone's personal opinion is , we have a small , weak, ( though Courageous ) defender, who hasn't shown much improvement in his time in first grade.
All we can do is hope that he starts to show that he is capable to be in the grade that he's
In. If he does that then that's good,
If he doesn't , I just hope that those in charge recognise that , and look elsewhere before it
Gets too far down the track
I guess that that's the risk that's run when clubs or coaches give gauranteed positions to young players .
