BREAKING - MARSHALL LEAVING

I wonder how much the rumours of his good mate Timmy Moltzen sussing out the ESL played in Benji's decision. Obviously he would be right in the know about Moltzen. That was probably the straw that broke the camels back but I think that Potter has known for quite a while the type of player that he wants at the club and the sort of team that he is building.

Some people are predicting some miserable years ahead without Benji but lets be honest, our last couple have been less than ordinary. I have been a fan of the old Benji but the current Benji just can't seem to play good footy when some of our other first graders are out. To me that's really why the marquee players are on top dollars. If you can't rise to the occasion when its really needed then spend the money on someone who can.

Farah is a good example of playing good when times are tough. I've only seen Brooks play a couple of games but he appears to make the right decisions at the right times. That's a damn good starting point. Time will tell.

i also really don't understand why Benji has not used his side step to help his running game this last year and a bit? To my knowledge he hasn't had too many injuries as a reason NOT to use his step.

Anyway, I've been around a lot longer than Benji and will be here for much longer, after he leaves. There will be more good times and there will be more bad times of that I can assure you.

I'm not a Benji hater or lover as some like to call others, but can those Benji lovers please tell me why they want to upgrade and keep Benji till the end of 2017\. Don't just tell us we're haters and that Brooks and Moses aren't the saviors that we think they are, that's putting words in our mouth. I love the club first and foremost, I don't care who you are, if you can't deliver, we don't need you. No ones being harsh, all I know is he has 2 years to run but he's decided he wants to walk, now that's love.

Very few who think he should be on 700k for 4 years. Just people who don't like those who are abusing Benji and ignoring all the fantastic things he has done over 10 years, the injuries he's come back from and instead they're just focusing on the past 3 months.

Good luck to benji
Are Penrith still upset that golden child. Jennings is gone and Luke Lewis . Potter reminds me of cleary times have changed its all bout performance now. Know one cares about yesterday

Benji is not bigger than the club nor the game. He has made a decision whilst it is arguable wether it is right or wrong I wish Benji all the best. Who needs enemies when you have a manager like Tauber who obviously has looked at hs own interests before his clients. Time after football Benji ,no media career ,no loyalty from a club that would have employed you for life, no passive income. Great decision very smart :brick:

Like many others I have mixed feelings. Great memories of a freakish talent, but recent years have been pretty lean on for those sort of performances from Benji. This is probably the best outcome for both parties. I wish Benji all the best and thank him in particular for the loyalty shown in not playing rugby league against us. I am very excited about the young players we have coming through and the opportunity which a large chunk of freed up salary cap affords.

Sorry missed Fulton but he did miss a year with WT in going to England. Certainly a WT workhorse and home grown Magpie junior.

Very sorry to see Benji go, he will always be my fav player…

Now that we have some cap space and need some grunt up front I hear there is a good forward called FIfita at the sharks we can buy.

The horse has bolted with Fifita just the same as it has with Benji. Funny how our former great administrator and the cause of most of this trouble, Humphreys, left like a thief in the night.

With Benchy gone so is the boy's club. All I can say is - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqCcpZ_LzXM

Can't blame his manager he is only given as much leash as his client lets him . He knows there is limited time he can milk benji

gee benji you have given us some memorable moments. maybe the most memorable the moment which won us our only Grand Final. Wow that feeling when you realise we will start a new year without every kids favourite player when you mention the tigers. The player every kid idolises growing up, trying to pull off the step or a flick pass at the park. Your greatest moments have been indented into every tigers supporter memory and we will never forget them. But i don't think we could pay 500k to a player who isn't playing good footy. And i don't think he could return to the form which saw him singled handedly win us many games. Whether it is a step which breaks the line or a flick pass which creates a try opportunity he hasn't produced one of these for years. Good luck Benji to wherever life takes you next.

Does anyone think Benji's dip in form could be more a result of the players around him? It's no coincidence that Tuiaki, Ellis, Tuqiri, Dwyer, Ryan were recipients to his try assists and in the last 18 months when those players started to disappear, so did his form…and now we have a bunch of rookies he barely has a try assist in him.

I guess his brain dead decisions and errors will always overshadow his greatness. Shame. Thanks for making me watch the game of Rugby League again Benj. We will miss your passion for the Tigers, and I hope you do what's right for you and your family.

tbh i think this is disgraceful…benji is more than just a player he is an icon and a hero to many people. I know he was a hero to me growing up, this seems to soon and forced - almost as if he has had to jump a sinking ship. Id love to know how well people think we will go next year with absolute no experience or direction in the halves. Brooks WOULD be great if he had benji along side him. Siro is great but he cant be the foil like benji could. History has shown when you partner benji with a quality halfback he is a world beater. i dare say if he had a look at this forum you guys would have made up his mind... the amount of sh*t you dish out to him. He has been well below par this year, but people are quick to forget his heroics for the best part of a decade and the sheer love so many supporters have for him. There is also no one like benji his an enigma... who can reproduce the famous step, flick past or sheer ridiculous play? For mine it is fair to want to treat benji like another player but he simply isn't...he is a different beast, and whilst i dont think we should have broken the bank or bent over back wards, surely more could have been done. I will be very sad to see him go. Thank you for the wonderful memories Benji, you were my favourite player growing up and still hold a soft spot in my heart for a true idol of the game. I hope you career burns bright and your legacy remains intact. Regards, a fan of the tigers in the worst weather and there first and only true superstar who could encapsulate the imaginations of the masses to turn out for the wests tigers

who's focusing on last 3 months? what you have been watching the past 2 YEARS…

when has benji had a consistent kicking game? when has he stepped up and taken control of a game? when has his defence been good? when has he even been in the same league as thurston DCE cronk lockyer reynolds reynolds etc etc he'd be lucky to be top 10.

we cannot and should not sign a guy because was great 4 years ago.. he's come back from injuries, yeah - more reason he should be loyal to the tigers. they stuck by him and paid him for how many missed games? yet he wants more than he is worth.

btw i dont think anyone is 'abusing' benji.

A skunk, just like his father.

I've been very critical of Benji in the past 12 months but some of the comments on here are poor form.

I wish him the best of luck wherever he goes and I think this decision is the best option for both parties. As much as his form has been very poor for a long time, I'll never forget what he did for us, basically put us on the map when we were a basketcase.

But the reality is you can't live off the past forever and you can't throw money at someone who simply is not performing. The club gave him and upgraded deal for his last two years and obviously he is not happy so, so be it. It's best if he moves on.

Thanks for the memories Benji, but it's time to move on.
