BREAKING - MARSHALL LEAVING

Been travelling overease and just catching up on the news.

So it seems he is off to Union for 5 years ? if I read Taubers statement correct, if this is the case then I think that is good for Benji as I think Union will suit him and probably give him some longevity in the game.

To be honest I have mixed feelings about this, some part of me is quite sad and the other part sees opportunity for others to step up.I will always have fond memories of the great things Benji has done and also sit back and reflect on some of the JC moments when you just want to pull your hair out - maybe that is why I don't have too much left

Benji will be missed not only by the Tigers but also League followers in general, you either love him or you love to hate him and I don't think too many people hate him to be honest.

Looking back this year alone which has been pretty poor and I am sure Benjo will agree, but there have been some clever things done, like the tap and run against Parra where her ran 75 metres, I don't think too many other players would be switched on to think to do that. Then there was the kick a few weeks back against Cronulla - a hair pulling exercise for me.

I really hope that Benji does well in the next chapter in his life, I wish him all the best and I hope that people get out and give him the farewell he deserves.

Does anyone think Benji's dip in form could be more a result of the players around him? It's no coincidence that Tuiaki, Ellis, Tuqiri, Dwyer, Ryan were recipients to his try assists and in the last 18 months when those players started to disappear, so did his form…and now we have a bunch of rookies he barely has a try assist in him.

I guess his brain dead decisions and errors will always overshadow his greatness. Shame. Thanks for making me watch the game of Rugby League again Benj. We will miss your passion for the Tigers, and I hope you do what's right for you and your family.

Think to a certain extent yes, but the biggest thing for Benji was having a decent halfback beside him look at his time with prince he was good if not great then some leaner times after he left, then with the emergence of lui he had some good times again.
So I think he needed that support next to him to shine that's why I'm a little disappointed he didn't stick around to see what Brooks could bring to his game and vice versa.

People say it is sad to see Benji go , and it is sad to see him go

But he was in control of his own destiny either way If he was playing football at near his best this wouldn't be an issue ,he would of got what he was wanting

Benji was always very vocal in the press ,if the reasons for his lack of form were lack of a half back and forward pack which weren't up to it surely appealing through the press would of made a difference

Benji is a master of the press in the same order as Wally Lewis and we are seeing it now

Still think he and Tauber are playing the game , you watch

I really hope that Benji does go to the Waratahs.
That way he goes to a team I follow, will be able to see him live at times, he can pull off his trick shots and I wont feel like kicking the TV when they don't come off !!

He will be a drawcard for rugby and probably will be able to negotiate an outrageous Harry Kewell type deal (when at Melb Victory) for a % of increased marketing/crowd revenue.

Proud to say I have been a member of the Benji Marshall hate club since 2008\. It's a great day. Here's to the last of the deadwood from 2005 gone!!!! Here's to never having to watch the most overrated Rugby league player to ever lace on a boot. (maybe Ross Conlon was just as overrated?)

Here's to a bright and prosperous future for Wests Tigers!!!!!

wow,never expected he would leave.
player and club have been good for each other, but the time had come to part ways.

pretty excited to see the cap space we now have, but will the new regime get it right.with young halves we have to get our pack right.

Apologies for swearing at this guy. But seriously, grow up mate. The guy has given us a premiership and many great memories. It may not be a bittersweet farewell, but it doesn't always end up like that.

Thanks for the memories Benji, best of luck in your future champion.

Correct. The stronger tha pack performs, the easier transition it will be for Brooks and Moses. If we are being dominated week in week out, they will struggle badly. Don't hate Marshall, but I thought the increase the club offered was pretty good considering his form and his future form. Maybe he's chucking a tanty cause Farrah is the highest paid at the club. And thats how it should be too. :sign:

Im not a hater. I love Wests. Forgive me if I can't shed a tear about this, remembering the good times… It's been so long I can't remember the good times. I stand by what I say fully. Trust me it's for the best.

No ones crying about this, most people realize the writing was on the wall. Disappointing, yes. But to come on here and blast the guy like you have who has done plenty for this club and helped build the fan base to what it is, in my opinion is pretty disgraceful. Couldn't you just wish him well without all the rubbish.

Benji will need time to invest in whatever he does next. That's why he'll eject early. Once again the next venture won't just be about footy but the club and its culture. He's a sad loss for all those reasons. The meaning and purpose that comes with genuine clubmanship (not just mindless pranks with the boys) is what drives the best. Hopefully Farah, Fulton and others will bring out that spirit in Brooks and Moses. That will bring the resilience they need for NRL. As it seems to have done for Sironen who clearly bleeds Tigers.

we have cap room now who do we buy?? imagine if we get rid of Blair too we would have half the cap to spend for 2014!

Could you imagine someone like Liam Fulton going to the club saying "Sorry, I'm not happy with my multi-million dollar contract that has 2 years left and despite playing like shit for the last 18 months I deserve more and would like a release"

I work with Ross Conlon's son , can't wait to show him this
Mate don't be such a hater wish him well and move on.

he will last 6 months in yawnion suck like anything meanwhile get's his pay and will come crying back to us to come Rugby League again why???? they all do Gower is back, look out Craig Wing has to come back yet

Been keeping an eye on Grant Mayers twitter tonight. He just answered someone who had asked if there was some positive news coming out of this (retention). To which he answered something along the lines of "Announcements on the way, pushed back for obvious reasons, probably Wednesday."

Hopefully an official announcement on Brooks/Moses, etc signing on for longer.

We could very well almost extend Brooks, Moses, Lovett, Santi, Sue for the price we were going to pay to keep Benji.
