BREAKING - MARSHALL LEAVING

@Saber said:
Could you imagine someone like Liam Fulton going to the club saying "Sorry, I'm not happy with my multi-million dollar contract that has 2 years left and despite playing like s*** for the last 18 months I deserve more and would like a release"

I laugh because its try. The amount of work Fulton puts in each games, plays well above his weight, compared to the handfull of great touches Benji has, no contest. I'd take fulton anyday, now he's a clubman.

The greatest player from our club has just asked for a release. The player who gave us a premiership. Who brought more fans to the stadiums and then made us stand up in our seats just to see him jink and weave.

It is an emotional day for the Wests Tigers.

If you remember the era before Benji then you would know that it was simply horrible for many many years. Win or lose, Benji made weekends better. The question from family and friends which ALWAYS followed "who won?" was "how did Benji play"? People loved Benji's play.

Sadly though, people here loved to hate him.

If you are happy that Benji is gone then that's your choice, but if you don't feel that Benji made the last 10 years of your life better as a Tigers fan then you would simply have to be a hater or just not a Tigers fan at all. There should be tributes to him for chrissake! Not the opposite!

It's time for us to just come together thank a legend.

So, perhaps just this once if you have nothing gracious to say about Benji then just don't say it.

Been keeping an eye on Grant Mayers twitter tonight. He just answered someone who had asked if there was some positive news coming out of this (retention). To which he answered something along the lines of "Announcements on the way, pushed back for obvious reasons, probably Wednesday."

Hopefully an official announcement on Brooks/Moses, etc signing on for longer.

We could very well almost extend Brooks, Moses, Lovett, Santi, Sue for the price we were going to pay to keep Benji.

I saw that too but I doubt the Benji decision was the reason for the upgrades if done it would be too quick to use that money, they prob have extended but don't want it to get mixed in with all the Benji stuff.

After digesting this…. Im pumped! We have forwards, some spark out wide, and to be brutally honest even though Brooks is untested, he cannot be any worse directing us around the park as Marshall was. I cannot wait to see if we can fire with a bit of structure instead of relying on low percenters.

Looking forward to next yr, the squad is starting to take shape... its all coming together on paper at least. Im excited to see how it all plays out on the park.

Proud to say I have been a member of the Benji Marshall hate club since 2008\. It's a great day. Here's to the last of the deadwood from 2005 gone!!!! Here's to never having to watch the most overrated Rugby league player to ever lace on a boot. (maybe Ross Conlon was just as overrated?)

Here's to a bright and prosperous future for Wests Tigers!!!!!

You're just a hater

I work with Ross Conlon's son , can't wait to show him this
Mate don't be such a hater wish him well and move on.

Do you work with Ben? A great kid! I played footy with him for a few years. And his old man was great!

There's no denying the history and all that Benji has done for the Tigers. I believe the let down for a lot of the emotional tigers supporters with negative comments also stem from how this has all played out. On the Matty Johns show tonight about they talked about If you look at the back end of the careers of a lot of the former greats they took paycuts and stayed on to mentor the young kids to give back to the club. Benjis request for more money was ultimately his demise at the club.

All the best Benji. You will be missed and never forgotten. A big part of Wests Tigers history. I wish you a long and happy life and success in whatever venture you choose.

Not a Benji fan myself but it is always sad to see a player go, after he scored that try against storm you could tell his love for the club. No one knows whats going on behind the scenes so I am supporting the decision, crap happens and life goes on. Goodluck Benji, leave with a premiership!

very sad….was hopeful he would regain form and stay

i am thinking there must be more to it than what is stated in the press....half a mill for a guy who's form is inconsistent is a reasonable offer......Benji is not being very realistic given his form if he wanted a contract beyond 2015 right now.

Yep. I didn't want to see him go but seriously he isn't worth what he appears to be asking for. It is a massive change for the club though isn't it. Benji, Ayshford, hopefully Moltzen gone and Ryan, Gibbs, Fifita and Heighno leaving last year. It is a massive shake-up but to be fair we probably needed it.

This is the way I see it as well. He should have been prepared to stay for 2 years but on less money not more. I suppose it is his choice and I wish him well but I wonder if he is making the right choice for himself.

Best of luck Benji, I wish you the best in what ever you choose to do. I haven't been happy with your form and support your decision to move for both you and the clubs sake.
Time for a change all around.'
Do me favour though show all these mugs and fence sitters that love to throw stones when someone's down and be hypocritical because you may be leaving for money ( like if they weren't happy at their work and they were offered an exciting new opportunity and great money to move they wouldn't) by having a great season.

Think or a minute how do we know Brooks and Moses are any good??? there was a time people thought guys like Rangi Chase and Miller were going to be the halfback for years. this is a HUUUGE risk on 2 players that have not even play a first grade game yet.
