Brooks: What exactly has gone wrong?

Our forwards are deftinately weaklings and continually come off second best , however our halves are also second rate , they should be sat down every week and watch Adam Reynolds perform and our outside backs are snails.

When has Brooks ever had a decent forward pack to play behind? Never!!! Marshall also suffocates this team. Either this team is Marshall’s to control or Brooks!! Personally, Brooks has gone backwards ever since he was dropped. Doesn’t look interested in playing whatever game plan has been constructed ( I say game plan very loosely as I struggle to see what game plan we play towards every week). Luckily his defence is still okay but only just.
I think the club needs to get the forward pack correct and everything else will sort itself out.

Sorry, but that excuse has finally worn thin.

He’s been awful in the games where our forward pack dominated too. The excuses for Brooks need to stop, he has contributed nothing all year.

Brooks will be fine next year. He remains one of our best, if not our best. I suspect there a lot of injuries among the forwards. As for Brooks, he has black and gold blood.

Some of the faint hearts on the Forum run up the White flag at the first hint of trouble. Time to stand firm, accept we don't have the team but that will change.

By the way, does anyone disagree that having JAC on the wing provides a target for our halves to kick for? There us no substitute for genuine oace, a commodity we lack in spades.

We are poor very poor all over the ground it’s going to take a lot more than just forwards to fix this mess.I don’t think it will make a difference to Brooks game anyway

I am an unashamed brooks supporter and continue to believe he is a very good footballer. I am sure that if he was with a better team he would thrive,
BUT
there is something wrong and it needs to be addressed. I don’t know whether it’s confidence or game plan or what but he is not a shadow of the player he can be. Needs fixing.

Can we unruin him? I mean, is it worth persevering with? I hope it is,

Honestly can't think of our last threat out on the edges, havnt got anyone that will go up an get chip/bomb/crossfield kick, no one fast enough really to chase chips in behind the defence.
I just can't blame the halves when they're hampered by lack of attacking options and yeah I know they're supposed to steer us around the park and amount pressure but how do you do that from your own 20?
How do amount pressure when your defense leaks like a sieve?

I don't think so, we debuted him too early, had him playing with a rookie in his early years in 1sts so he had noone to learn from and changed his coach every second year.

Fortunately the Club is attempting to address this lack of pace. Good post.

I use to support Brooks but starting to think he has a poor attitude.
We have all blamed every one around him players and coaches and starting to think the blame game has resulted in him having an inflated view of himself. If he thinks he is better than he is - and dealings I've heard about him off the field back that opinion - then he needs a harsh reality check.

Well that would be a pity if that’s the case. I’d reckon he’s dead set smack in the middle of the reality check right now!!

Such as..do tell

I haven’t written him off yet
But his kicks this year have been the worst out of any half in the comp
He was thriving with his short kicking game,2019,2018
Also his combo with Garner was looking to be our go to play close to the line.

He’s struggling. But man we had zero go forward last night. And once again , a lot of the tries scored were angles back on the inside to the middles . There’s a real disconnect between the edges and the middles . Like as if a new defensive structure has been put in place and the team is struggling with whatever concept is in place. Garner needs to be benched . So much arm grabbing . When he lines them up , he axes blokes , but if he’s not in a perfect position , his reactive defence leads a lot to be desired .
Brooks is struggling though . He’s allowed to have 1 bad year . Benji , has made a career of bad years

I just watched a bit of the highlights on 9 and I recall one of our forum members criticising Brooks for not making a tackle when the attacker beat Talau. The player was physically over our try line in the air when Brooks got to him? What is that about?

I don’t think he has the type of personality to think he thinks he’s better than he is. His personality is a problem though. I’ve said it for years. Being quiet and reserved off the field is fine. But he takes that personality onto the field. He does not have a competitive, killer instinct.
