I am an unashamed brooks supporter and continue to believe he is a very good footballer. I am sure that if he was with a better team he would thrive,
BUT
there is something wrong and it needs to be addressed. I don’t know whether it’s confidence or game plan or what but he is not a shadow of the player he can be. Needs fixing.

I think we ruined him

Can we unruin him? I mean, is it worth persevering with? I hope it is,

No

I haven’t written him off yet
But his kicks this year have been the worst out of any half in the comp
He was thriving with his short kicking game,2019,2018
Also his combo with Garner was looking to be our go to play close to the line.

The short pass to a 2nd rower option play with shape out the back has always been his best play but we don't run it anymore which is disappointing as both Garner and Lucy should be great for that play.

Since we won’t have much cash to spend on our roster for next season, I think the best investment we can make is in the halves. We have some good forwards so we can make do with for another year and I would argue it is easier to coach them because they have a simple job to do. As we have seen with Brooks, you either have it or you don’t and coaching only gets you so far. If we are attacking well, and scoring points everyone lifts and plays with confidence. I just hope there is quality in the market when we go looking and that we have the cash available.

We didn't get one tackle in the Panthers' 20. How do you suggest we attack lacking genuine pace except for Brooks?

Exactly. We could have Andrew Johns and Thurston is the halves and it would make little difference. Yes we got the first try, but we were on the back foot for the whole game. The panfers forwards won every battle last night. They ran for nearly double our metres.

Brooks is ok but not elite. It would be wasteful to pay for him to play elsewhere. There are bigger problems in the team. Madge has improved the forwards but more is still needed.

When we have halves that can set up plays to get us down field. I really do think our forwards can get us in attacking positions when the flow is going with us. No one is playing with confidence so we are being dominated. I think that can be fixed. You can’t fix a lack of skill
In the halves.

Our forwards were smashed the entire game. There is no coming back from that. Bigger, fitter and faster. Cleary knows our attack relies on the pace of Brooks. We need JAC and Saab.

That game showed how far we have to go and why it's hard to write players like Brooks and Douiehi off. We weren't in the game from the start even though we hung in there for a while. We need the refs decisions to go our way and all our plays to be perfect. Cleary is really good but his poor plays and lack of creativity aren't noticeable in a team like that.

I totally agree we need to spend in all positions when we have the $$$. We don’t have a lot of cash and we need to spend smart where it will have the most immediate effect. I think that is in the halves.

I thought that Blake Green was the guy that we really could have used as a budget buy, but in view of his recent injury, it looks like for once we dodged a bullet there. See, we can be lucky occasionally.

When has Brooks ever had a decent forward pack to play behind? Never!!! Marshall also suffocates this team. Either this team is Marshall’s to control or Brooks!! Personally, Brooks has gone backwards ever since he was dropped. Doesn’t look interested in playing whatever game plan has been constructed ( I say game plan very loosely as I struggle to see what game plan we play towards every week). Luckily his defence is still okay but only just.
I think the club needs to get the forward pack correct and everything else will sort itself out.

Brooks will be fine next year. He remains one of our best, if not our best. I suspect there a lot of injuries among the forwards. As for Brooks, he has black and gold blood.

Sarcasm Sunday

Some of the faint hearts on the Forum run up the White flag at the first hint of trouble. Time to stand firm, accept we don't have the team but that will change.

By the way, does anyone disagree that having JAC on the wing provides a target for our halves to kick for? There us no substitute for genuine oace, a commodity we lack in spades.

Im sorry but I'm still trying to comprehend your defence of Brooks. Surely you are taking the $iss?

Brooks is shot to bits. I bet he was the player that gave madge a spray. Hence madge dropping him. We will never make the 8 with brooks. Need a guy with a footy brain and a talker which brooks is not. I'd say bring jackson Hastings home. He would be cheaper than brooks and has much more aggressive. After 150 games brooks is done. His game management and 5th tackle options are so bad. We need a complete reset in the halfs. You ones that can build pressure like madge says...

I agree 100%. IF it was Brooks that gave Madge a spray all I can say is he has the hide of Phar Lap.

I think he’s just dumb
Brain can’t connect the dots ..

Trade him

Brooks is a good player but he is not the half back option for WT going forward. In all the years
watching the great game the dominate sides have excellent half backs that are able to manage
games and influence results constantly. Brooks should be traded which means a win/win for both
Parties. I would trade Brooks for JAC. Brooks would then have access to Cronks coaching and
A new environment.

It’s not Brooks in isolation.
Both our halves are strike attacking players only.
None of them know how to build a game. Dig out of a tight set etc.
I’ll say it again. And it was extremely evident in that game. We can’t do anything when we aren’t out of our own half.
If you think back all the games we were on top this year, last year. We score points when we are given cheap possession into the other sides half.
I.e penalties. 6 agains are no good for us in our half as it wears us out even more.
It is the lack a meters or meters in contact our runners make (not just our forwards) but there is also fault on both our halves for not knowing when to get involved in that set. Reynolds funnily enough did this well and would kick down field to get us into the other half to try and force a mistake.

Mate Cronk doesn’t coach at the Storm.

Brooks best move is slightly east to the dogs or north to the knights/sea eagles. Everyone else are set for halves.
