Can we continue to carry Moltzen?

Thought he was average again tonight. Bombed a try down the right hand side in the first half and cost us a try off a spilt bomb.

Last week against Manly he went right when we would have scored if we went left and was generally pretty unconvincing.

I reckon not having a good fullback has cost us maybe 3-4 games this year.

This might seem trivial but these are the type of things that end up costing you at finals time. We just seem to be losing a couple of lengths to the field if we continue with Tim.

Would a fully fit Mackinnon be a better option at 1 with Moltz back to the bench. Just can't help thinking that Moltz at 1 is going to cost us a big game this year. That said Moltz has more upside than Mackinnon if he starts to fire (but how much pain do we have to take?).

I know we debate this every 3-4 weeks, but for good reason i think. Thoughts?

Larry, I think we do miss a fullback. We need someone that attacks the ball, Slater style. There are far too many fullbacks that let the ball bounce or when they do take it on the full they will just slowly turn around, run across field and get smashed making 10 metres.

When you catch the ball turn around quickly and sprint. Not many fullbacks do it. That's why Slater is in the top 3 players in the NRL. He is as safe as abank under the ball. Rarely lets it bounce and then attacks with speed.

If only we had him.

I was one of Browns biggest fans last year but this year he hasn't really come on. Honestly I think we should keep both Ryan & Utai on the wings and slot Lote to fullback when he returns.

I think it would be a bold move, but the form Beau is in now, maybe he should be fullback? I just dont know really, but im convinced we need someone other Moltzen or McKinnon. Beau's aggression and workrate are well suited and he's taking bombs with ease and courage. I honestly dont know what would be the best decision here but we need to sort it out

still fairly concerned with the fullback spot, Beau is in good form at the moment and would probably be the better option at this stage for fullback

McKinnon supports the ball runner at the ruck and draws defenders attention.

I thought Tim had a dig last night. I have spoken at length about my issues with him at the back so no need to rehash.

Beau does not attack the ball well enough to be fullback. That is also Mitch's issue as well.

Its a hard call but I think McKinnon should most likely be our 1

Unless he becomes more committed in his ball return and grows a set, I dont think we can.
beau's form at the moment should get him the spot. He shows a lot of guts, and may not be the most skillful ,but is in very good form at the moment.

Ps also a great team man and you cant deny his courage..

Moltzen should never play fulback for us again,he has had more than enough chances and shows no commitment, takes wrong options, puts his wingers under pressure,he is not even close to a NRL fullback.

wests-tigers, in the fullback position have not recovered since Hodgo left.

Tim Moltzen will be picked next week for game again panthers.
they will send alot of high kicks his way.

The kid had one of his better games this year, but made a few crucial errors. Shouldnt get the chop for that, and while I think we can continue with him, if McKinnon is fit, he is twice the Fullback that Tim is….

Moltzen's best position is 14 due to his versatility... He needs to get used to that number for next year anyway!!!

I agree with this comment Sirro. With the problems the Tigers have had at fullback this season I am surprised Brown has not been given a go as he was very good in the last 6-8 weeks of last year. I thought he would have been given a go with McKinnon being repeatedly injured and Moltzen seemingly unwilling to take the line on most weeks.

Moltzen had a better showing last night than he has for the last couple of weeks, but the disappointing aspect is that while McKinnon has lost pace, his support play is first class while Moltzen only trails Benji despite having good pace.

Whoever gets the nod next season at fullback better work damn hard on support play because it can really add another dimension to the Tigers attack.

I was thinking about this last night…but now the sleeping giants have awoken and the disharmony rumours seem to have past...is it the right time to make wholesele changes....having said that, Moltzen, Mckinnon and Utai are huge liabilities all three have plenty of mistakes in them....can we afford to carry them in semi final games

moltzen wouldnt even make my local a grade team in any position, scared of high ball ,scared to run from fullback and butchers tries, cant wait for him to leave, most overated player by a mile.

I watched the replay and he was ok.

By god he is a sook of almost Bwaiff proportions. When he plays in the line he thinks he is the halfback. When Lui threw an off pass that was supposed to hit him but cut him out he went off like he was a leader of the team when he is far from that and whenever he gets tackled he looks like he is about to cry.

But no point ranting because he will be there next week

The Fonz thinks that as well. Believe it or not.

I have never rated moltzen at fb.There is plenty of back up fb running around in the comp that we should look at like stapylton, massey and the one who plays for easts
