Sydney Roosters five-eighth Todd Carney has been charged with drink driving after being pulled over by police on Saturday morning.

Carney, the 2010 Dally M Medallist, was caught via a random breath test on his way to a business meeting, according to a Roosters club statement.

"The Sydney Roosters confirm that Todd Carney was this morning charged with low range drink driving," the statement said.

"He was on his way to a business meeting this morning and was pulled up by a road side random breath test.

"The club and Todd are very disappointed in his actions.

"Whilst the matter is set to go before the courts, the club will discuss an appropriate action with Todd in due course."

Carney was sacked by Canberra Raiders in 2008 for repeated alcohol-related incidents.

The Roosters play West Tigers in a pre-season trial match at the Sydney Football Stadium on Saturday night.

The incident is a huge blow to Carney who turned his life around in the 2010 NRL season with the Roosters.
Carney spent four seasons at Canberra before being sacked by the Raiders on August 7, 2008\. Carney was later deregistered by the NRL, with David Gallop ruling the bad boy could not play in the competition until 2010.

It's not the first drink-driving incident for the NRL star; Carney was charged with drink driving and reckless driving after an incident in Goulburn, in 2006, and his license was suspended for five years.

In 2007, Carney was banned from driving until 2012 after being pleading guilty to the charges of failing to stop when directed by police, negligent driving and driving while disqualified.

Will this dope ever learn.

Bet the Roosters don't do squat.

Just need Jake Friend and Mitchell Pearce to act up now and then we have the Roosters trifecta for the year…

hahahaha low range in the morning??? give me a break! He was on an all night bender and got caught coming home! I love it hahahahaha!

so let me get this straight.

He's not even supposed to be driving - driving while disqualified.
and he has been random breath tested - over the limit.

double goose. Goosey McGooserton.

i like the part;

"He was on his way to a **business meeting** this morning and was pulled up by a road side random breath test."

lol what was he thinking?

Dont care and dont think this is anything which is newsworthy….

I'd presumme over 500 people got busted drink driving last night, but they dont get assasinated by the media...

Australia is becoming a sad place due to the media!!!

If they don't they should be. Do you know how many people are killed or injured due to people driving whilst intoxicated?

Get real.

Started last year with lighting his mates ass. Won Dally M. Starts this year with DUI. My bet is Churchhill Medal.
Its all good

Probably was on the piss last night and drove somewhere today with it still in his system. I've heard heaps of people get busted for DUI on Sat/Sun mornings for this reason.

:blah :blah :blah I'm actually a big supporter for naming and shaming them ALL!!!

Unfortunately, this isnt why the media is plastering this over the airwaves, websites and newspapers…

This isnt the media's stuff up….its Carney whos back on the grog

Media dont report on the 1000s of planes that land safely, or where its not flooding or quaking.....good news is no news

Will be a lot longer than that

will be interesting to see what does eventuate here.
the magistrates can refer " the defendant" to do traffic offender's program.
once completed they can sometimes get a reduction in the time they are disqualified.

….

I bet they don't either. And even if they did, the other 15 clubs would fight to have them playing with them in the next week.

It may sound harsh, but think of it this way. If you are convicted of a serious offence (and I think driving driving is serious because it isnt a joke) then the NRL de-registers your contract for 12 months on a first offence and for 5 years on a second.

And if you go to Rugby, AFL, or any other sport as a result of your deregistration then good luck to you. At least our sport wont be full of idiots who cant grow up and do the right thing and promote our game positively!!

THE NRL yesterday reacted swiftly to Todd Carney's fall from grace, cutting a clip featuring the 2010 Dally M Medal winner from a promotional video to be shown at the season launch this week.
Just two years after sacking Brett Stewart as the face of the game, the NRL scrapped a 20-second video of Todd Carney just hours after the star playmaker was charged with low-range drink driving.

"We're not talking about a major plank in the season's promotion or even the day," NRL chief executive David Gallop said. "But it wouldn't be in anyone's interest to have Todd as one of the players introducing the season review video, nor do we think it would be the appropriate message to send."

The NRL, monitoring how Carney's club, the Sydney Roosters, was reacting to his latest indiscretion, issued a statement last night claiming the player's drink driving charge "warrants close review by all parties." The game's governing body is deeply disappointed by the actions of Carney following a breakthrough year both on and of the field.

"Todd has been a real example of what people can achieve in turning their life around and there needs to be a sense of perspective about what has happened and what the next steps should be," Gallop said. "I'm aware that no one is more disappointed than Todd."
