Carney caught drink driving

Todd Carney is employed as a football player.

Is it going to affect his work? - Aside from mentally, no.

Is the club really going to care? not really

People that think every player in the game should be a role model need to realise that most of these guys are human too. Dead set if i was as buff as half these guys, being pumped up by the coaches and the peer group, earning the coin they do and getting the amount of free time they have i would probably be a rat bag as well.

He did have a bender with some of the other players and was still over in the morning when he drove. God knows i've bretho'd myself with a $400 odd dollar bretho the morning after a bender and been double that mark. It wouldn't take much for him to be over the 0.0 allowed for P platers however i am digressing from my main point here.

He's apologised, and will cop the RTA penalty (i would assume) which will mean the club giving him a driver/mates driving him around. It's not affecting his ability to perform his role so I'm more than happy with that.
 
He's a knob. Always has been, always will be. People dont change much. Just a miracle it has taken so long for something to happen.

It's his third DUI in nearly as many years though mate. Joe Bloggs would have been locked up by now… He's had more chances than I have hot dinners and needs to have the book thrown at him pretty hard. Not even a 12 month suspension from the game has stopped him from trying to burn his mates groins or drink driving... Nothing will happen though cause Gyngell and Politis won't let it and they'll coerce Gallop into doing nothing.

They set a precedent with Brett Stewart, time to grow a spine and enforce it.

I understand that and i'm not saying he should be exempt from what the RTA/Courts would punish him with. I would/will support the courts 100% if they threw the book at him or if they order rehab etc or even if they use descretion.

I just think it's unrealistic for the NRL to rule on what is a minor civil matter as it does not affect his ability to perform his contractual duties, barring promotional which has now been withdrawn. If the courts send him to the big house then that does affect his ability to perform his duties and should then be dealt with by the NRL.

Brett Stewart was different as it was after a club season launch, which is an official club function and was a far more serious allegation giving the way the game is marketed.

Stewart was suspended for bringing the game into disrepute as one of the NRL's posterchilds for the game, not for the sexual assault (that was the official line trotted out by the NRL anyway.) Carney has been linked with the promotion of the game and by the Gallop's definition has brought the game into disrepute, especially given his previous history of being in the headlines for the wrong reasons.

I get what you're saying that its the law systems' job to deal with the actual offence and I am not challenging that, but if the NRL are going to set a precedent they need to enforce it and stand against the club bosses, especially when they've punted said player for 12 months due to his long history of public reckless and dangerous behaviour.

Seems like whatever u want to do at that club u can do Nat Myles Willie Mason Fittler Carney the list goes on and on They need to make a precedent and get rid of a big name To show this behaviour is unacceptable and i don't believe a word that Carney said he was thinking about quitting It is almost like we have to feel sorry for him for what he did These guys have to understand that some of us would of killed and died to be in the position they are and would of given up everything to do it They take it all for granted . When will the NRL stand up and start doing something about it ???

I agree HT him saying "I thought about quiting NRL" is pure bull**** its just to make us feel sorry for him…
... althought he is one of my favourite players...i still think his behaviour cannot be tolerated....
.. maybe a clause in his contract... if he brakes another rule...or brings the spotlight on him for the wrong reasons again...terminate his contract...

Sorry mate… I dont buy any of that! I can understand Myles getting the chop for his indescretion, but it was his first 'real' incident at his employer, so to terminate his employment is a bit harsh. Willie was a twisted bloke, plan and simple and again didnt really do much wrong. He just wasnt a good role-model to have around the club.

On Carney...Whats he really done wrong? Blowing .02 isnt a base to call for the re-introduction of the death penalty... This was simply a poor judgement call and the NRL shouldnt play any part in this what so ever!!!

Tiger Watto he blew .052 And it was not at time of incident . It was next morning He knew the repercussions He already been kicked out of one club . I'm sorry but if it was you or me we be paddling up that famous creek without a paddle and being asked to pick up the soap . it is his third time . does he have to run someone over before NRL or Roosters treat it seriously He is a huge talent and I want him to stay And i would be saying same thing if he was in black and gold
 
Yep, sorry… I just re-read the article.

Either way, I dont care.... This has nothing to do with Rugby League and it annoys the crap out of me that primadona's get on thier high horse and want someone like Todd kicked out or sacked. Todd should never of been sacked from Canberra, and I bet they are spewing watching thier local talent win the Dally M for another club, 12 months after they got rid of him?!

As I said in my original post, there was probably over 500 people charged with drink driving on that night, but they get to keep thier jobs!
 
but it was his 3rd time that is the issue And last time I checked I was no primadonna Any drink driver that gets done 3 times should be in jail No questions asked He has some alcohol issues he needs to fix We should be worried about Carney himself what happens if next time he duis he kills someone What should we do then ???
