I am a Richo apologist. He’s got runs on the board.

He’s also made his strategy public, you make spots available and have cap room and strike when the timing is right. There’s not much on the market now, why repeat old errors?

Benji is a bit of a dill. He joins up with Tim and then puts his hand up to coach a poor roster without any experience. He should have done a proper apprenticeship and bided his time. His track record is appalling. Easily the worst coach in the NRL. If he was that talented as a coach, he should have done better last year.

Its his job to instill character and get as many players as possible playing at their optimum no matter the opposition. Hes failing miserably on that kpi. Good teams fight hard all the time. They dont get plastered into oblivion.

And lets not forget, if it is the players fault, then he recruited them!

He spent most of last year making excuses that he was a rookie. Well he wasnt bashful before he took the job.

It was his job to train then out of fatigue. Lots of coaches do it fairly regularly.

Weve got a young side, they should be physically adept to counter surges.

As for the culture, he hasnt built a winning culture. Hes relectant to hold players to account and he nevers calls them out. They know that as far as the public is concerned, they get a free ride.

He hates sacking players from the side. Its very hard to get sacked. No or very little accountability. All bets are off.

And my favourite argument, he said after the storm game that he screwed their preparation or "i will need to look at what i did." It was a full and unfettered admission. A confession that hes not where he needs to be.

Im not saying hes a bad person, he works hard but all that hard work....nothing especially great is coming from it. Thats another issue. Hes banging his head up against a wall.

Hes had months to prepare the players for combat and at times, they wont even get out of their fox holes.

I just havent seen enough to suggest his tenure should be set in stone. My feeling is that the team could respond better with another in command.

He can take a few years off and come back with a few notches under his belt.

No one likes to see him failing, floundering away, mouth wide open, arms waving wildly in the air...destroying his legacy as a superb player, pretty much for most of his incredible career.

And one that left the game in a better place than whence he found it. Rare and a gift.

But that doesnt always translate to the coaching lark.

You take me for a Benji fan boy. I'm not a huge fan, but neither do I believe that he is hopeless. I have seen enough for me to think that he has the goods to be successful and I like the approach he has taken to try and build a culture in the place.

Some see him as never blaming the team, others think he supporting them for doing the same thing. It is all about an individual's perspective. I have no doubt that he could have done better in preparation (in hindsight it is easy to say); however, the game was lost on the paddock not before they went out there. It is not like the flogging started from the kickoff.

I used the Cows game of an example of where the spoon winners dished out a flogging as well - so it happens to well coached teams too.

The reality is not known to anyone outside of the walls of the club - to state otherwise is simply conjecture based on personal perception.

My personal belief is that Benji shouldn't have been given the coaching position; but he has. I have seen enough to know that he can prepare a team and that they can execute a passable game plan. He is on the right path and is developing. Should that have been done as a FG coach? No - but it is what we have.

It is clear that we are short quality in areas and I have faith that this will improve; probably not before 26 though. I'm prepared to give him another year with an improved roster. You have a different perspective. Time will tell.

And how are they going at their new clubs ? You’ve been death riding Richo since he got here. has cleared many cancers from this club and had just cleared the biggest of them all. He’s doing a great job. The club is turning around under his helm , even blind Freddie can see it .

Didn’t Stef just get picked in the Origin squad? But the point isn’t about how they are going, it’s how little we have gotten in return.

No i dont dare presuppose to know your actual thinking, only the argument posited. I take note of your contributions.

I would rather dispense with him in the manner that ive discussed previously affording him significant dignity and grace. And ive opened my heart to him for a future "incursion"

Realistically, i think he will almost certainly get another season yet maybe he will want two.

I think @Tucker was speculating as to the consequences for him if we cant improve and regain our competiveness this year.

Whilst support for him is dwindling, it may not be at the rate required to actually pull the trigger.

A handful of heavy defeats may be required to dislodge the onus favouring his continuation.

As against Galvin, Benji has always had my fullhearted and undying support.

And as a club at least we threw a few punches until we succumbed to $175k.

But of course, we only get a small slice of the background. Usually unpalatable!

Those guys didn’t come here and live up to their lofty reputations either, which means you can’t just move on and sign equally established talent. There’s a cost.

Stef, Klem, Bateman and Papa for May, Big lazy Royce and a somewhat interested Bird....
Our pack has gone ok to start the season. The back half is where theyll be tested. They require reinforcements pronto.

Galvin leaving solves a potential headache IF the Latu signing wasn’t a stuff-up in the first place. Big IF.

I’m with you and GNR, we still have holes to fill in the forwards and believe me I’m checking back here daily to see if we’ve filled those gaps BUT I also remember how poorly we’ve done in the past using the “signing what’s available on overs” strategy.

Richo has frustrated fans with his patient approach but we need to remember his track record is building winning clubs, while ours is watching a losing one.
