Maybe this is all a good thing.

Channel 9 is playing hardball. If this was the 80's or 90's I would be scared.
Now, well people will buy Kayo or whatever and just watch it. While Rugby League's heart is going to be in the suburbs and those TV sets are going to tune in. Kids can subscribe and will be watching on devices.

The sad bit will be the nursing homes that still push footy hard. They won't modernize and their residences won't be able to tune in.

Otherwise happy for our NRL mismanaged dinosaur to say goodbye to another mismanaged dinosaur. If that means the RTS and Val Holmes leave the game, Great.

I know you are not but there is nothing to be scared of. The game will survive. If Nine go, there will be someone else to take up the coverage. It might be for less money but you know what? That is what it will be worth. Too much rubbish over the years about the "value of the product", players should be getting more based on international standards etc etc etc. Its all BS and the players will get paid what is left based on the market.

Rugby League for way too many years has had an overinflated opinion of its own importance and this correction hopefully places some reality in the organisation.

Oh and hopefully gets rid of Greenberg.

In an ideal sporting world both ch 9 and Greenberg have nothing to do wirh rugby league in the future. Both have agendas which are bad for the game

I’d rather see the comp suspended till 2021, then some stupid little modified Mickey Mouse season cos the NRL are too skint to scrap 2020.

Typical comment....it's stupid and Mickey Mouse if you don't agree with it.

I'd rather watch some games this season, whatever the format.

Agree.

People should stop listening to so called corona “ experts “ . There is none. This is a new virus and we have very little knowledge about it. We cannot be locked up in our homes forever. We, as a country, must get back to normal as quickly and safely as we can. If this country is closed down for another six months we won’t have a country. Millions of jobs lost, all our super gone, food shortages occurring, mental health shot. People fined and maybe locked up for going for a walk.

I wish the game well. I for one will be tuning in to watch it on Fox. Screw 9.

huh ....stop listening to the Chief Medical Officer....as well as the various State Medical officers..

Col..

that is a way too much cool aid for 1day

Its a conspiracy .... there should be a investigation.

This sums my thoughts up with regard to V'Landys and the NRL. In my opinion, a brilliant piece of writing.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/apr/12/sport-in-australia-will-survive-covid-19-but-those-currently-in-charge-might-not

Do not think this article has anything to offer at all - by the time I got to the end (quite a chore) I was really angry.

I think this idiot has an agenda against sport and Rugby League in particular.

Each to their own. But, the probability of an NRL return are lessening by the hour.

So, while you may not regard articles such as this as relevant, those who will determine it, and ultimately that's not Mick Fuller or Peter V'landys, will be.

Why is the probability lessening by the hour?

The NRL are letting others stop the season , they are doing everything they can to proceed. ... this is a high stakes game and once it is stopped by the politicians and broadcasters they invoke the clause Act of god !

Will be interesting to see outcome of the meeting tomorrow.
I don’t care who may be waiting in the wings ...... they will be hoping for a discount deal ..... so NRL can’t afford to have 9 walk out on this. An agreement has to be reached to satisfy both parties.

Let’s go play in Wuhan... it’s all clear and party on there.

Manly can play Souths first ?

Send Parra too

I'm rarely one to defend the broadcasters but I think broadcasters have a right to be miffed with the fact that they will not get their 25 rounds which is what they have paid for.

Both Fox and Nine will lose out. Fox will probably have people disconnect their packages or remove sports early and lose Kayo subs (I was going to cancel mine this week until the NRL confirmed the game was going to return,) and Nine, as much as I hate them, will miss out on the advertising dollars that the extra games would have returned which is what FTA relies on to survive.

The NRL, the clubs, the RLPA and the broadcasters will have to sit down and discuss this and come to a sensible arrangement to ensure that all parties wear a little pain to ensure no one gets dudded more than the other.

That's fair but it looks like ch9 want to change the terms for next year onwards. Any changes should only apply to this year.

Well, they haven't paid. No footy this month, no payment. If there is a shortened season, what they pay will be pro rata.

Yeah they want the whole contract re-negotiationed. Blood suckers taking an advantage of a worldwide crisis. Nice partners

I wasn't aware it was a pro rata arrangement. If that is the case, they should still be paying in accordance with what is shown.

And they shouldn't be able to renegotiate next years terms based on unusual circumstances this year.

Personally, I hope Fox play hard ball and demand that they keep rights to show every game live (even those also broadcast by Nine). The Fox product, commentary, analysis and coverage are far superior to the rubbish dished out by Nine. If that means Nine walks away from NRL coverage, that will be a great outcome. As long as another free-to-air channel steps in to provide that coverage that is needed by so many people.

Absolutely. The GF and 3 SOOd are always in the top 10 shows on tv each year. I'm sure Vlandys has been in contact with other networks
