Channel 9 and SMH

Absolutely can't stand the 9 commentary team. I no longer have fox, so have to settle for the telstra nrl app. So i watch on the very small screen, but at least the commentary is good in the main.
 
Interesting comments from everyone criticising our NRL commentators for one reason or another. It appears that none of them can do it right, not just on Nine but on other media as well.

I'd be interested to know who people think would be good. For example, who would you like to see hosting, calling the games and giving expert comments during the broadcasts on Channel 9 say? Pick a team 👍
 
Skando and Fulton with Gibbs as the sideline eye and Heighnington for post game interviews..
 
For me it would be no ex players. They should be used as expert guests, asked specific questions, then sent home.
Professional television presenters trained to orchestrate interviews should host. I think both Fox and 9 do this quite well recently with Vossy, the Fox ladies and the young bloke on 9\. The ex footballers are embarrassing and should be given very limited exposure. When they are forced to just talk footy, most of them provide something of substance. Use them sparingly and dont let them be the faces of the coverage.
 
Had no talent at all, just good connections.
Stereo is still the best of an ordinary bunch.

the worst thing now is that we are going to be bombarded by pearls of Wisdom by that, squeaky voiced grub Slater.

Channel nine has used the reality Tv model for there NRL production. All the commentators have a role to play. Rabs is the old moderate, Gus is Mr Controversy, Fitler is the dumb loveable bogan, Erin is the dumb blonde,Joey is the x wild child and so on.

Personally I loathe nine’s football coverage,but while it rates nothing will change, and while they have a monopoly onthe viewing audience who don’t have fox they will rate.

My biggest hate is the way they have made Fitler into the clown, when he first started he was very good now he terrible trying to be the funny man
 
I'm OK if they sound like gronks if they know what they are taking about. I think Ennis sounds like a bit of a bogan at times but I think he can still communicate well and is pretty insightful. Gasnier was horrible when he started but seems to be getting better.

It's guys who sound like garbage and add nothing to the commentary that annoy me.
 
I actually think Gaz is very good. Him and Sterling are two of the few who actually are not biased and give fair and accurate assessment no matter who is playing
 
I often wonder if commentators hate certain players. They have to always be diplomatic, but they are human like the rest of us. Or, unlike the rest of us, are they not as emotional because they are involved in the game and know the players personally.
 
Thought Ennis was a grub footballer, but a very intelligent commentator and is not afraid to have a go at players including some he played with. Most of the others dance around the hard issues. I Like Sterlo, he is articulate and relevant. Cannot stand Channel 9 coverage, its out of date, it thinks its funny and its not. Rabs was once a great caller and like many of us, he is past his used by date.
