Charlie Staines #262

When Stains got signed, there was hardly a ripple on the forum. I know he's a minor signing compared to the others, but considering our need for pace in the plodding backline, i was surprised at the lack of interest. Then it hit me-POW- the AD and Laurie fan club were under threat, the new kid was a ghost.
Api is probably the only player who has licence over his position next year. Stains is in the mix with rest of them and to date has done nothing extraordinary to get excited about. It's that simple.

Nofa has speed.
He can cross the line. We saw 4 tries in the world cup.

Nofa just doesn't have defence and commitment. As he will age he will slow right down, I suspect the slowness this year is due to him not caring.

Unless he transforms under Sheens and hopefully his time at Melbourne will drill a bit of defence in him. Nofa should be punted. Nofa is fast, what you are seeing is him displaying a bad attitude in 2022.
Nof has a bit of acceleration, not speed. We've had the slowest backline in the comp for years, Nof is a big contributor to this. His acceleration over 10m gives him power, which helps him make metres (when he runs straight). But other than intercepts he rarely scores from outside the opposition 20. He gets run down, then tries to step inside and does something stupid.
At 29 he will only go downhill from here. He should be punted ASAP if anyone that will pay 400k of his salary.

No one would pay near that. Remember Lee going on about I'm being a local and we are keeping him got a four year contract as well. Doubt we had any competition for him. So glad recruitment has improved significantly.

We have genuine fast players coming through.
Nofo might have to finish his career in the magpies jersey.

Move aside, son.

You might be right, I looked up stats for 2021 and 2022 and he does not rate anymore.

I still see Nofo as a line crosser, I still see Nofo as a huge defensive liability that has failed to contribute to a backline defence.

Even then if someone offered us 400k for Nofo I would take it in a heartbeat. What on earth were we thinking offering him 5 years at 525k.

Who are these fast players you're talking about?

I know our juniors, and i wouldn't call any of them fast, at least not in the same way as Koro, JAC fast.

Dotoi would be the only one in that conversation and there's been crickets about whether he's returning or not. Would be a tragedy to lose him.

Hill and Scolari the other ones with potential to be express, but after serious injury they need to demonstrate they still have their speed and skill in a matchday environment.

The only three games worth watching from last season are the stretch of three games with Hastings at lock - Penrith, Cowboys, and Broncos. The rest of the season we were putrid with most supporters flicking off at half time.

maybe Stains was given a chance hear after Panfers didn’t want him , he may have been given a one year deal and a show your worth and you stay for many more , we are on the up , signing new players to build our squad , be part of it long term , get out there and show us what you got , we got another 2 year deal waiting for you from mid season onwards go earn it

I really like the fact sheens hasn’t been bullied into giving longer deals just to sign a player.

the Staines contract is weird,by all accounts its only one year, signing held back because he wanted 2,yet there has been no mention of an option in our favour, incase he kill;s it next year.O well

I realise Dylan Edwards is only 27, but who is next in line for his FB spot at Panthers? I would have thought Crichton? But Cleary will be hard pressed to hold the versatile centre.
Staines would have to be considered, especially if he can get some game time at FB?
