Chris Heighington

Heigno mentioned to me a while back that he was looking to come back for one last year….
Maybe he was telling the truth?

Guys I can confirm that Chris Heighington has been offered a 1 year contract for the 2017 season by the Wests Tigers..

Source - My Cousin (Heighington's close mate)

I'm sure your cousin is great friends with Rhino but that's not a confirmation - that's a rumour with a source.

Yes I see what you mean mate but all I can say is that I can share with you guys is that Heigno has been offered one year..

Sounds a bit dodge I know but I just thought I would share it with the forum…

Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying it's dodgy or that you shouldn't post it. We appreciate the info. Just that until the club makes an announcement nothing is official.

It's a big fat no from me, we don't need West's Tigers turning into a retirement fund. I can't see him offering us anything other than a touch of nostalgia.

Whilst I think ET is a must, Heighno has been playing pretty good for the sharks, better than Dene has for us, he can offload at will, but it would depend on price.
We need a winger, centre and secondrower, preferably one who kicks goals, although I think Moses will be a decent kicker by next year.

851 I have read heaps of your posts and I agree with most of what you write but this has thrown me.

Heighno and offload have never been used in the same sentence before. He is the most one dimensional hog of a forward and offers absolutely nothing. He rarely makes more than 5 meters with the ball and never hits the line at a speed that is even remotely threatening. He is completely predictable and his departure from here was long overdue. I will be livid if any of these rumours come to fruition.

Depends under what situation, you need 25 full time players and have to field a reserve grade.

If we are bringing him back at money that is appropriate for a player 20-25 in your squad for what he offers off the field in terms of leadership and work ethic, well no problems.

If we bringing him in as someone who is going to be a key member of our squad, well no thanks.

Maybe I never got caught up in the Heighno hype but for me he was a solid role player for a few years but for the best part of the last decade he has hardly even been that.
For me Heighno's best moments for us were in the Broncos 2005 semi final and the interview after the Grand Final win.
I know I'm being harsh but for pete's sake we can't actually have him playing for us again, it undoes so much of the good recruitment work and promise this club holds.

Seems a bit of a stretch to me. He could get good money and probably a 3 yr contract in super league and not count as an import. Crazy if he came here for 1 yr.

Have to say he is a much improved player since going to the Sharks. The shimmy step he use to take before running the ball is all but gone and much to my frustration he has been great for the Sharks in what is already a very good pack. In saying that not a fan of bringing players back after they have moved on especially at the end of their careers

Whilst I am not saying yeh go get him, he has been going ok for the sharks way better than his last few years here, and I was surprised at his offload ability, I am sure he was being shackled here. And yes he is no metre eater, but he is a good defender who can offload, so whilst not the best option, he is not the worst either.
I was just saying if it was a choice between Heighno and Halatau, then I would take Heighno.

The Heighington Hitup - catch, run to line, shuffle feet, flop into defence, pigroot when tackled, play ball, look offended. Couldnt bend the canteen line at a girls school.

I actually thought of him as a bit of an off loader so checked his stats:

2016 - 6
2015 - 26 (Gallen lead for Sharks with 41\. Corey Parker had 48\. Cartwright had 57)
2014 - 40 (equal first with Fifita. Corey Parker had 64)
2013 - 25 (Fifita had 33\. Corey Parker had 63)
2012 - 34 (best for Tigers. Corey Parker had 30\. Justin Hodges had 50)
2011 - 40 (best for Tigers. Corey Parker had 68).

But I wouldn't want him back.

Well I'll be damned. I retract that line from my post then…good reconnaissance

This place is unbelievable - People talk about Hayne joining and it's "No" from all and sundry, However Heighno (A guy we have been paying for almost half a decade to play against us) and everyone wants to bring him back.

Unless he is returning to lay out the witches hats at training he should enjoy his final years elsewhere.

We already have the best fullback in the NRL.

Heighno would be great back-up if cheap enough.

Well as Hayne coming would be all hypothetical, you don't think you could move Hayne to say the centres or wing and he may do a better job than what we have? What people reject on this forum is crazy, bringing back heighno is only for sentimentality really, like Ballin this year, aging players looking for their final contract very rarely work out.

Hypothetically, I think Hayne (and Ted) would only be worth the big coin playing fullback.

Heighington looked great yesterday. Made more yards than any of our players. I wouldn't bring him back for sentiments sake, but because he'd be good for the team (if he was cheap).

Heighno is the type of player that you would only buy to plug a hole in your roster. He isn't someone to plan your future over.

I think we've got our fair share of hole pluggers, don't you?
