Chris Lawrence Re-signs...

Doesn't fill me with excitement for the future. Good to have a great club man but most times good club men hold other better performers out of the team. It's a signing where we know what we're going to get. At least he likes being here.

He's arguably our best second rower, who's he keeping out of the team?

Everyone agrees Lawrence is a good bloke.

However 3 years seems 1 or 2 too many to me. I would have gone for a 2 year deal max, or maybe even rolling 1 year deals based on performance. Its easy to go back into the comfort zone with a 3 year deal especially for a player whos body has taken plenty of hits.

We gave him one 5 year deal and that worked out terrible. I know he is not as old as you would think given he started at 17.

**However i am not really for giving "veteran" players 3 year deals**.

Only 27 years old

Why would Lawrence agree to a one year deal for lesser money? He already has a contract for next year on massive coin. The three year deal enables the club to spread that. He has done the club a massive favour.

Let's all remember this monetary favour that he has done the club in a couple of years
time when we are looking for scapegoats again, I would like to think he has earned respect for his attitude like Farahs favour to the club should have earned him. BTW Congrats Chris

You guys know that the only reason it's a 3 year deal is to spread out his existing heavily back ended contract and lighten the strain on the cap right?

Right now nobody, but I fear in future he might. In a similar way to I think Halatau is in the way of others currently.

I also thought when he was at centre he wasn't the best option for some period but was consistently picked there.

Exactly. This is great news - we get cap relief for 2017 without losing anyone.
Worst case scenario, we have an average player on an average salary in 2019.

This is the exact scenario TigerTorch alluded to. Revamping Chris's contract from an extremely expensive 2017 only to a far less expensive 3 yr extension. Even if he is not playing at an elite level, Chris is still a very solid first grader and the type of player every team needs. So this decision frees up some extra funds for next year and gives Chris a deserved extension.
Two years would have suited the Tigers I'm sure, but Lawrence needed some incentive in order to reduce his income next year.
Win/Win in my estimation.

I knew I changed my Avatar for a reason..

Great Clubman with a restructured deal win/win…

Lets hope the same thing doesn't happen as it did when he signed the 5 year deal

Major injury within 10 days of signing the contract

I'd of been happier with 2 years , he's been in grade for a long time …........

You can't help yourself

Very happy with this, hes only 27 could become our Luke Lewis type player, no doubt he's taken one for the team here. Heavily backended next year now spread out over 3 he should be applauded, he'll find a new lease on life in the back row.

I think it is a very smart signing. Fixes current financial issues, hes a good leader, and will provide a quality of depth in 2019 if nothing else.

Makes me wonder though, if the coach is a tool and everyone hates him, why are the players re-signing?

Rowdy does deserve it, and the Lewis comparison is a good one, plus he would be getting a reduction for being a long serving player, great stuff I reckon.
