Chris McQueen signs - Official

..my last word on the subject…
we have a whole bunch of promising young forwards, and youd expect at least one or two to rise to mcQueens level or beyond by the end of this season..maybe more if were lucky.
Not the same in the backs dept unfortunately.
The only "experienced" forward we shld be looking at is a much needed enforcer type like Beau Scott/Tapau etc who will give the opposition second thoughts about running the ball up against our defence line.We don't have any of these hard hitters
McQueen is NOT that type of player

Who?

I think he's overrated and whoever signs him will end up paying too much. He is not the kind of player you get into a bidding war for

Id like to think Aloisi,Felise,Sue and Marsters all have the potential to be past McQueen by seasons end…but only one or two mite get there

I doubt Marsters will get there. Every year i hope that Sue takes his game to another level, but it hasn't happened yet. Hopefully this is the year.

I'd have my money on him the best of those 4 in a few years. He is younger than the other 3 and has a good skill level and I would say next year he will be a permanent member of the 1st grade team.

McQueen played 25 games for the gold coast (he has played at least 20 games every year since his 1st season in 2009). He scored 9 tries (career best ), 9 linebreaks (career best), 72 MPG (best since 2009), 29 tackle breaks (his best since 2012), 25.2 tackles (equal best ever) although his missed tackles were up a little at 2.5 pg but like he would be at the tigers he was defending next to a rookie half which hurts players missed tackle figures. I also note that he has given away more penalties in the last 3 yrs then previously but this seems to be more tactical then anything.

Is he the best backrower in the game no of course not but he is a step up on what we have, he is a hard nut and he does improve our top 17 both on his own and because he would push Lawrence to the bench which improves the bench too

I've already said elsewhere that I'm not massive fan of him, but I thought he was much better at the Titans last year being a "leader" in the pack rather than a backup for the Burgesses. It's slim pickings for 2nd rowers. He's a good selection…. if the price is right.

$1.3 million over 3 seasons for this guy? Overs….. I better not read about us losing Masters or Paseka because of this.

If we lose Rankin, Lovett and Hunt for him that that's ok

That's cheap 433k p.a. The Cap is likely to rise steeply. Good player very underated.

Agreed. Well worth that money.

Marsters is a very godd young talent. Let's hope he works hard on improving his fitness and involvement. To me, it was Sironen on the left hand side of the field who impressed against the Cowboys. His type of defence has been sorely missed and he does possess a good running game (runs very good lines).

No thanks. He is no superstar, and considering we already have Lawrence locked in for a similar period, I do not think McQueen is any great improvement. It could be worse though, we could be chasing Guerra.

Looking at the list of off contract players, I would be having a look at Mitch Barnett. Looked good coming through at the raiders, and even better as one of the leaders of a pretty inexperienced pack when he went to Newcastle midway through last season.

I agree about Bayley Sironen. I watched him closely and his work on and off the ball was twice as urgent as what his brother ever did. I liked what he did defensively.

Don't mind McQueen as a player not a match winner but he doesn't make any mistakes.

For the right price I'd look closely at him, he's got a ton of experience and he would improve our defence on the edge drastically.

For the right $ I'd get him. Get rid of Lovett and Grant and you could bring McQueen to the club. I have faith in the tigers management to make the right choices.

I agree with both of you - I think we kept the best one (but for how long).

Take it for what its worth but a person close to the titans just told me that we are offering around a mil a season for McQueen. Surely we cant be that stupid.

Note it is secondhand knowledge

Teddy's worth a mil a season. McQueen would be about a third of that.
