Coaches Corner

Nice thread glad to see all the positivity can't wait to see see the 3 of them commence the respective roles next year ❤️

Are you confident though ? Madge gave me some confidence because I think our recruitment was much better than previous coaches. Madge very rarely got the team performing to their ability. Cleary got them performing to their ability but his recruitment was the worst I've ever seen.

I think if we get a couple more recruits in key positions plus a really lucky run with injuries then we can see significant improvements. If we don't get a couple more recruits or we get a bad luck with injuries (which Madge suffered through this year) we won't improve.

If a strong current is starting to stress a boat's mooring, you put another rope on.
Successful businesses recognise potential failures before they happen and put in place safe practices to avoid these failures.
WT failed to do since we started playing in 2000.
When we started the joint venture we blew our grant on nuffties and have made bad decisions year after year.
Our football department needed to maintain a focus on development and keep the salary cap in order so we had funds to strike when quality player became available without paying overs.
Working out of a shed is no excuse for failure either.
If you have a great roster, the players only need their kit, a training paddock, gym and some methylsalicylate.. that's it!
Players make coaches. Dud players can destroy coaches.
If we are going to be successful we need most of our resources poured into pathways, keep our cap under control and recruit players like Api. It's not hard surely.
Cobar, do you think a dud coach can destroy players?

I’m pretty sure Madge was short staffed early in his contract term and on top of that he had to become the star in the sorry “tales of tiger town”
Every time I read or hear "Tales of Tiger Town" I feel physically sick.
Why would you openly display to the world that we are a basket case.
From thereon we continued to display (for the critics to feed off) our failures and bad decision making.

Which issues do you think allow them 7 years grace?

None - But there's been several different issues... I see them as being rectified.

I guess it's real easy to add them all together and point grab your torch and pitchfork...

With your added benefit of hindsight of course.

No doubt this allows for the additional resources now being directed to the Campbetlltown, Macarthur and Inner West junior areas. We weren't able to do this for some time due to financial constraints.

I am very pleased this is happening for the betterment of WTs, Wests Magpies and Balmain Tigers. The reason is the very good young players we may have missed due to the lack of on ground resources may now be identified and retained with WTs rather than representing other NRL clubs.

Watch the haters ignore your post.

Sheens said the club has been hampered somewhat by working out of the tin sheds. The Roosters have twice as many player support staff.
Absolute cop out. Roosters have been in tin sheds for the last three years while their new stadium gets built... doesn't seem to have affected them too much. Parramatta in demountables too. Both top eight teams. Facilities don't mean anything, it's a cop out to distract from having no direction or idea about what they want to do with their roster or playing style because nobody wants to come to the club and the semi-good players we do have want to leave.

Yep, it was a brave move. How could they let FOX talk them into that? I think there was more than 400 hours of filming.

The Melbourne afl team doing worse than us just fired their ceo and still being branded weak and a basket case.
As I wrote yesterday, the Roosters and Storm have a significant advantage over clubs like the Panthers, Eels, Dragons, Raiders, Knights and WTs. They have no junior areas to speak of so their outlay on junior development can be allocated to cherry picking the best juniors from other junior districts and Qld, NZ and Regional NSW. This probably also assists with them having more support staff. It is inequitable.

Of course. But historically, not just in the NRL, a poor roster can bring a coach to his knees.
The coach needs a roster that has several marquee players to set the standard and no holes in it or a side that is stable including pathways and support staff or a combination of both. Your question is hypothetical because a great coach can extract blood out of a stone eg Bellamy, but one would argue that even he has what I said, great support staff and a handfull of marquee players to set the standards.
Most coaches can get a team up for the fight eg. Hastings and Brooks kicking those field goals to win but the team can't keep winning because they haven't got the quality players to maintain the effort.
Don't forget years ago some successful clubs didn't have dedicated coaches, we had captain coaches. Never have we had just coaches and no players 😉
What I've said is the average. Of course you could come up with examples where coaches have bought down a great team to their knees but most times there will be holes in the roster.
I'll argue till the day I die that "the team with the best roster usually wins"

Nothing stopping us from doing that. Of all the excuses I've heard this is easily the weakest.

Sickening. To see Pascoe with that shite hairdo trying to be a Hollywood superstar was pathetic. I'm going for a walk to calm down. 😒

Besides all the negativity in this thread, there is a lot of revisionism. This was Maguire's roster and in any business, the keepers of the $ expect a return on their investment. I for one am looking forward to next year with Sheens, Marshall and Farah.

I look forward to watching the tigers every year mate no matter what happens.
There's too much Black, Gold and White blood running thru my veins not too.
I'm not expecting too much at this stage for next year.
Unless of course Shifty has done some recruiting that we don't know of.
He says that some players are going....we have no troops left so we need more.
What will happen. Are we going to hang in there until 24 hoping a bag of cash will snag someone good and pray that our 21 year old will deliver.
Maybe 2 wooden spoons are better for tossing salad than 1.
Roster, roster, roster, oh deary me 😿

I am sure the flow of dollars into the club coffers would have a lot to do with it as i doubt the brains trust would have allowed all that access without payment
That's a great point Jad.
Would you put it past them that they did in fact do it for nothing.
Gee wouldn't Kent love to get a hold of that. 😬
