Coaching tactics

After two years of reading this forum daily, todays the day I've made an account - so hello all.

I wanted to comment on the press conference, unbelievable to hear mcguire mention it was the roosters playing structure we couldn't match.

Until we're able to make the right decisions with the ball (no 7 tackle restarts) - we'll be forever playing on the backfoot - it is more about us than the opposition.

All I know it hurts - Being a tiger all my life and to see the same effort. We are not learning from our mistakes - I rate Madge but the administration at the top is a major problem - Storm, Roosters, souths all have strong Admin. Our recruitment has been poor for sometime. One day i hope the players understand the people love the club and want to see them succeed but to put up with an effort like that it HURTS

It appears that most successful clubs study the opposition in the week leading up to the game and put strategies in place to beat them at their game. Do we do this? Doesn't look like it or do we capitulate as soon the opposition scores a try against us. We play like chooks with their heads cut off, no structure, no composure, no leadership, no resilience.

Watch the press conference mate

Just watched it then mate. Disappointing. Either these players need hearing aids or a good kick up the ass. Looking at how to manage Keary and Teddy leading up to the game, all I saw was space for Keary to run, absolutely no pressure and plenty of shirt grabbing. Clearly not the plan and this team does NOT know how to follow a plan and hasnt for some time.

Maguire...we need to own it,we need to be better for longer parts of the game, more resilient.Sick of hearing the same crap, this is his team,he has the players he wants and has chosen.

Agree - Did we target there play maker today.
Kearny ran too much with nil pressure,

I listened to the press conference but he is not stating where we are falling down - Right hand side is one.

He is starting to sound clueless.

I know the last 2 rounds we played top 4 sides
if the platers heart not with the Tigers i suggest you leave. No Wests or tiger supporters will support FRAUD players. We need to go back to the drawing board seek The best juniors in the district and keep THEM. No more over paid Morons putting the famous colours on

It’s how you react to adversity that makes a strong team. We melt like snowflakes.

The right side was fine, it was our left which was terrible.

On Keary running; he's a great player behind a strong pack. They play fast and direct and the link to Keary is sharp and accurate. He starts his runs deep so gets a few extra steps to read the play. He's quick and seems to get outside people (not just us) at ease.

Add to this players like the Morris brothers, Tedesco and Manu and it's little wonder they touched us up.

One thing you have to give the Roosters - they're extremely well drilled and rarely make critical mistakes. They play the way I'd like us to play.

I think everyone needs to calm down a little. We have played 2 teams that will easily finish top 4 this year. We have new combinations and new players who will take time to gel. I actually think this is a good thing and players who don’t want to be here or don’t want to give 100% will be found out. After round 1 no one wanted Liddle and garner in there team and they stood up today. Unfortunately to me the common denominator in all this is Brooks. He can run and had one of his best running games today but you simple cannot compete if your halfback can’t kick if his life depended on it or manage a game .

If he doesnt talk and guide them around the park - we have no hope - his kicking game is non existent- I expected bigger things from Brooks - He needs to have the confidence and desire to WIN - the last two weeks against top opposition he was not the Man. Laurie Penrith Number 3 in ranking has more impact

i would have put all the duds in to play today and rest my young talents at least it wont dent their confidence. put packer brooks mbye doiue and reserve graders to play today. then bring in the starters team with an easier opponent to slowly build up confidence.

2 areas of the team issues are the following:

Edge Defence - too much space and time, no urgency nor communication. You use your sideline as the extra defender. We tend to defend up and in which leads to massive gaps on the outside. I would much rather us use a up and slide defence moving the attackers towards the sideline by limiting space but that means your inside defenders need to work overtime.

Attack in opposition 20M - i struggle to see any creativity or build pressure to score. It is so easy to defend. The fact that we have only scored 2 tries through a dummy half tells you everything. This is the one area that Madge and his staff needs to take some blame and fix. Brooks needs to be blamed also as he is the one that is meant to control the tactics to score when in this position.

is it just me or was Madge very calm in the presser? sounds like he's confident we get it right if we can sort out some things and put our training into practice.

Left hand side. The left was where the points were scored.

I feel like this has been an issue at tigers forever, especially under Madge. Seemingly training very well and never able to put that onto the field.

Don't ask me how to fix that, I've got no clue

He called the left edge out on it in the press conference. Hopefully he takes action on it

Maguire is a good talker promise promise promise with no action as someone else has said many times before and I agree he is a myth
