**Matterson’s had ample time to make some kind of statement just as he had the time to discredit the coach and the Weststigers organisation, instead his left it to fester and grow...**

Good on McQueen for having a laugh at Matterson expense, if the previous administration signed and sealed McQueens contract to the amount that you have suggested blame the WTs not him for being astute enough to take it...

And I guess if anyone has the right to express their displeasure at the drama Matterson has created for the Weststigers playing group would be his team mates don’t you think?

Re Matterson, playing Devil's Advocate here...but **he had documented mental health issues this season** and he is on holidays. So, for all we know, he has completely tuned out footy for a few weeks. Let's wait for him to comment when he returns...

Re making comment...Esan was linked with a move to Nth QLD 6 weeks ago. Esan posted on his social media it was a flat out lie and he "loved this club".

Six weeks later, it has all been proven true.

So, Matterson's lack of comment = we are slaughtering him.

Esan blatanly told a large porky pie = everyone is now going on about how well he handled it.

Could you give me a link to these documented mental health issues that he had this season.

Tedesco (Aus)
Woods (Aus)
Matterson going (our only rep level player)
Moses (massive sook, but laid on 31 tries this season)
JAC (Aus)
Pap (Roos 9s and train on)
Douehi Souths best in this year’s semis / Bennet a huge fan.
Fifita (Aus)
Brown (player of the year at Parra after he left / forward leader for a top 4 team)
There is a trend of us losing rep level players/ paying massive overs for blokes we have kept

As far as rep or elite level footballers go, that's an extraordinarily weak list. And none of them fled. I started to get into player specifics but it's pointless, you have Mitch Moses and Doueihi listed as elite players, how can I argue with that.

Tedesco, pap, Jac weak......riiiiiiight

The original poster said they were elite when they left - of the list he put up I would say Tedesco was the only elite player that left WT.

Matterson has not said a word mate. Let’s at least wait until we hear from him.

Yo are aware that players have agents who act on behalf of their clients. So, why would Matterson do his own dirty work when he has an agent to do it on his behalf?

We can take it as read that all the dirt that was directed at the club and the coach came from the agent, which means that it came from Matterson.

I just hope the WT's haven't gone off half cocked with Marsters

He was good in 2018 ...lets hope it wasn't 2nd year syndrome and he hits another gear in 2020 and beyond

As for the Matterson situation , the longer it draws out the smaller the pool of players to replace him with if he leaves

Time for a line in the sand ......give him date .......then we move on with or without him

Bet that's what Melbourne /Roosters etc would have done by now

I do not think we necessarily have to replace Matterson, more that we need to align Josh with any deal.

If a club took Matto 'and' Josh went with him then that itself would be a win.

FWIW there was a post earlier on social media (however reliable that is) that the Titans have a choice of Josh 400 / 400 split....or Milford 300 / 700 split.

So, if they take Josh and Matterson goes also....right there would be 400 (Josh) plus 450 Matterson (he is on more in 2020 than 2019) freed up.

850 000 would be a nice starting spot to rebuild. Ben retired = massive bonus also.

Personally, I do not think we should aim at 2020.

But 2021 could be a whole new start if we build properly.

Agree. We should only use that cap space (if it indeed eventuates,) for signings that will improve the squad, otherwise promote some promising kids and front load a few players for 2021.

Yes, I think it is common knowledge that there are a LOT of deals right now on the tables of just about every team. Tons of players are waiting on the first pieces to be moved and then the rest will start to flow. (Example: Ramien has not officially signed with Cronulla, but everyone knows it is coming and he has moved into the area already. i.e. they are waiting to move contracts first).

Personally, as I said, I am happy to look at 2021 and really build a team for the future.

Our issue, after so long out of the finals, is the club will no doubt be under a ton of pressure to make it in 2020. There will be players available for 2020 IMO that would maybe help us make it. Dugan, Woods,Moylan, Milford, Jack Bird...all these guys are available.

But long term would you really want any of them?

It is a tough one as this forum will erupt yet again if we do not play finals in 2020...and Madge will be a hero if he gets us there.

VS

We could put together a young, dynamic team with the right signings 2021/2022 and build something long term.

If anyone follows the NBA / NFL, you would know that this type of roster management / cap space / long term v short term is the absolute main focus for teams nowadays.

Haha 🙂

On a related note...St Helens, and thus Holbrook, finished their season last night.

He will officially start with the Gold Coast soon and I imagine we will see a lot of player movement from them within the next month.

Yea I'll give you that - I never really thought he was elite but he did get to top level.

It pains me greatly to defend Moses...I despise the sook too much.

But he did top the entire NRL for assists this year. First for all halves, first for the whole comp...

And kick 81%

And lead a team to the top 4 most of the season / semis / huge home final win. Thankfully failed after that...

He has become an elite level 7 and will probably be even better next year.

Now Cronk and Thurston are gone, who is ahead of him? Cleary? Morgan? Neither are particularly great. He is def in the top 5 now.

Yea maybe but that wasn't what you originally posted. Your original post on this subject suggested that all the players on your list were elite when they left - and they weren't. They may have gone on to better things since leaving but while they were at WT they never really set the world on fire.

Well, apologies if that caused confusion. I probably should have said 'elite level juniors'. Most of the ones we had all left, all the ones who played Kangaroo juniors, rep teams as juniors etc etc...as you know.

You may designate that Slimy is an elite player (wasn't when he left us) and in my opinion he still isn't.

Elite players do not go missing for great periods of the game, they take the game by the scruff of the neck - i.e. stand up and tall when they are needed.

Slimy stands up when his forwards are making 10-15 metre hit ups and when his team is 15 plus points ahead.

Had an ordinary game in the PM X111 - and great goal kicking as well - what was it 40%.

In my estimation hell will freeze over before he ever becomes an elite player.

IMHO, Moses is one of the most talented players in the comp, but he's a flat track bully. When things go against him, he turns to water.

Moses is the biggest flat track bully there is. The amount of times he goes missing or his execution goes to the crapper when his team is struggling is pretty amazing. At least with Luke Brooks you know he is going to put out at least a 5 or 6/10 performance every week. Moses still has a few 2/10 games in him a season, and even one or two 0/10 games.

He reminds me a lot of David Warner in a lot of ways. Brilliant player when things are going his way, one of the best. But a shocking attitude and mentality. Almost always goes missing when conditions aren't in his favour. Both are massive showboats and terrible humans.
