Confirmed: Matterson released from Wests Tigers.

If it's only a matter of $$$, don't we have someone in the club who has the professional negotiating skill to be able to work out a deal benificial for both sides.

If we lose him, we lose a player that can attract other quality junior and/or senior players, then we have to start all over again and go through all the crap of finding a replacement who is just as talented as Matterson.

But, by the sound of things Wests Tigers have made up their mind to play hard ball, and yes I know we are building towards a brighter 2021, but that build needs to start now by retaining Ryan Matterson.

I agree with you that Matterson has been solid this year. It is also possible he may get better next year or maybe this is as good as he gets, only time will tell on this.

For mine, if someone does not want to be at a club, or a job, and has a desire to be elsewhere, I know from personal experience you will not get the best out of them and they will leave sooner rather than later. Maybe it is a blessing in disguise and the club may come out bigger and better for it, but I would rather have players who want to be here.

@MAGPIES1963 matto is gone. While its been played out in the media my mate who is high up for nq (the same dude that gave me the scoop on marsters) told me it's ugly. Added to that matto is real good we get that but he has literally done to us what he has done to two other clubs he is a mercenary and thats fine, but you don't build your club around mercaneries.

Yes but Matterson is on around $400k and i'd assume Arrow is on more than that. So we're swapping players of similar ability (imo) but paying much more for it. Those numbers don't really work for me.

Yes but one of the players will presumably be motivated and not be a drag on the culture, and the other one possibly will. Similar ability at the peak of their powers maybe (although Arrow is better in my view) but there's reason to think Matterson will be below his best if made to stay.

By showing that the club will not longer put up with petulant cry babies that try and screw our club.
We have had over a million dollars of cap either playing CC or sitting on the sidelines this year and still went okay, I know we didn’t make the finals.
We need to draw a line in the sand with these guys that think they run the club.

Possibly so. I'm not saying we should hang on to Matterson, it's very clear he doesn't want to be here. But if we trade him, it has to be in our best interest.

If we decided to keep him as no deal was to our liking, I see no reason why he would not have a dig for us. He has to much to lose as if he kick stones and goes through the motions his value will drop.


I guess our worry is this gets ugly and we are dragged through a messy litigation based on duty of care or something like that

Teams may be willing to take a bad contract off us - Reynolds and Packer come to mind
