@pawsandclaws1 its great to say lets take Cam Murray ot Jai Arrow or even Kikau mentioned but none of this would work unless they genuinely wanted to come to our club and that wont be an easy task

Yes that's why we are better off targeting a couple of the very best junior players on the cusp of the NRL that one of these clubs would usually prefer to keep.

So in effect....for the eels this year....they get Matterson mid contract and we get to play them twice at their home ground.....

I'm disliking the eels more than anyone right now.....

Cannot imagine playing our home game at Parramatta again if there is any other option. Surely WT management aren't that stupid!

Tom Amone from souffs is one that comes to mind

Can't see us getting anyone decent for Matterson other than possibly Arrow - who might be interested in an opportunity in Sydney.
It must frustrate Matterson - all the interest from clubs - but unless they cough up he is stuck between a rock and a hard place. And even more frustrating as a club we have acted with integrity through the whole process.

Good start,. It would be interesting to name young players who fit into that category who would strengthen our team,

Dragons - Jackson Ford
Parramatta - Ethan Parry
Pity Roosters didn't want him - Billy Smith

Tom Amone should have been starting for them at the back end of the season. He’s a very good player.

This just keeps dragging on. What a bore. Page after page of the same opinions rehashed over and over.
Take a break guys and wait for some real news. It's not good for the health to obsess.

AFL shows how it is done. Players wanted trades out of Essendon and Sydney, there was no offer that made it worthwhile so they are stuck there.

Ryan Matterson now talking to South Sydney as Tigers exit looms

South Sydney are now genuine players in the race to sign out-of-favour Wests Tigers utility Ryan Matterson.

The Daily Telegraph understands the Rabbitohs are planning a preliminary meeting with Matterson’s management as early as Thursday as they look to replace retired club legend John Sutton.

No offer has been made but Souths are interested in Matterson, who wants to quit the Tigers two years before his deal concludes.

Matterson has already met with Parramatta officials this week, while Canterbury, Newcastle, St George Illawarra, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Cronulla and Penrith are also keeping a keen eye on the movements of the player who was 18th man for the Blues this year.

Matterson is known to be interested in joining Penrith but a hurdle could be the fractured relationship between the Panthers and Tigers over the Ivan Cleary coaching drama.

The Rabbitohs believe the ball-playing Matterson can be a perfect replacement for edge playmaker Sutton.

However, the Tigers will complicate any Matterson negotiations with a request for compensation — either financial or in the form of a player in return.

Souths football manager Mark Ellison is overseeing recruitment while head of football Shane Richardson is overseas and head coach Wayne Bennett is coaching England in the World Cup Nines.

Matterson left the Sydney Roosters after last season to sign a three-year deal with the Tigers worth around $350,000 a year.

The Parramatta junior now believes he can secure more money elsewhere, and the interest in him suggests he is right.

His Tigers teammates are understandably angry with Matterson over his desire to quit the club mid-contract.

There are those at the Tigers who don’t want him back, even if he can’t do a deal with another club. Just last week, retired Tigers legend Robbie Farah said Matterson’s dispute with the club was “beyond the point of return”.

It is understood Matterson will fly to the Gold Coast next week to meet new Titans coach Justin Holbrook.

However, insiders claim Parramatta are the early favourites to sign the 25-year-old.

Fed-up with his attitude, the Tigers gave Matterson permission last month to negotiate with rival clubs. Now Tigers coach Michael Maguire has now lost two of his better players from this season in Matterson and centre Esan Marsters, who has signed with North Queensland.

The Tigers are keen to have the Matterson drama concluded before the new NRL financial year starts on November 1.

It’s coming full circle guys.
Remember back when, the tigers were talking to Kyle Turner prior to any talk of a disgruntled Matterson.
Now it’s pretty clear why we were linked to him.

I don't see how a player swap can be done in the NRL, all the other team can do is release a player early but only if he signs with us. Why would the Titans want to swap Arrow for Matterson anyway? Arrow is currently the better player, they can't be that desperate to save cap money.

The package deal sounds more likely, they can have Matterson only if they sign Packer, Reynolds or someone else Madge would like to release. The Tigers player would also have to agree to the deal, would we have to pay some of their contract?

The player being released for the swap will have a great bargaining position.

@Sart0ri
I agree. I can't realistically see how any 'swap' could be made to work, without full complicity from any affected players and clubs, unless some fortuitous circumstances permitted it.

The titans would swap Arrow for Matterson if they knew that arrow was definitely leaving in 2021. If arrow leaves they'll have a hard time replacing him as they're a laughing stock. If he's going and they can guarantee a replacement that's a long term win for them. Because in 2021 they have Matterson, rather than neither which is what will happen if they don't agree

@balmain-boy
The number of clubs Matterson is reportedly talking to I think he will end up with a new Nick name of [This word has been automatically removed]

Well, Souths have officially released Kyle Turner.

Seems he is retiring (young) though.

What chance a late entrant for Mattos services could be Manly. We could get our hands on some gooduns there maybe. They're going ok up front and in the backs.

Seems the Matterson thing is about to end anyway.

Why not come out and just write what it is? No he wouldn't do that because he wouldn't get the attention that this attracts.
