The big shock for me is Matuilino was on 800k. 800k??? Are we serious? Wasn't a terrible player for us but that is absolutely crazy money for a serviceable, replaceable prop who had knee problems. What the hell is this front office doing? I don't care if it was Cleary's decision, no one should allow that to be approved. Along with the big money signing of Reynolds, Packer and to a lesser extent Mbye, I don't have any faith in who we sign next or the contracts we're willing to dish out. This is administrative incompetence beyond any period in wests tigers history.

Agreed, but I have faith that Maguire wont offer crazy money contracts to average players. He will take bad managment out of the equation.

I can’t be too critical back then. We were rebounding from some pretty average situations. I think we paid what we had to pay to get experienced players to the club. We were on the nose I’d reckon. Don’t believe that should be the case now

Panic buying. Either a better/more experineced coach or CEO would have been patient. I agree we're in a much better position now.

I don't agree with that. There were only a certain number of people on the market and we had a lot of spots to fill.

It's just the length and size of the contracts though. I liked most the signings but contracts like Mats on $800k?

Oh and Packers staying...

Good

He is going to fire in 2020, never wanted him to leave

I’m with you got a good feeling that the big fella is going to rip in next year and find the form he had at the Dragons before coming to us, hopefully anyway!!!

Fair call. I do remember an interview with them that packer and matts still hesitated though. Might have been needed. We weren't looking good with all the exits.

I thought at the time we were getting Packerlino for about the same money we were offering Woods.
Any who, here's hoping for some good news coming.

So I'm guessing the 1.7 million is made up of Matulino , Matterson , Marsters Lawrence on less money ...no Farah ..anyone I missed ....

@The_Patriot I was just trying to leave in hope😂😂

Now its time for the Twuth and Packeraele to step up

Brooshall to kill it in the halves ....Mobye to chop sides apart in the centres

The back 3 of Jenofompson to become try machines and Alolawyor in the back row

McQueen only has one year left, and from memory he was on about $330k. Hopefully he pushes for first grade.

Packer and Reynolds have 2 years left, on big money, I can't see them going anywhere yet. Maybe when there's one year left, some English club might offer one of them a 2 or 3 year deal, and they then maybforego their final season with us. Unless they set the world on fire at WT, here's hoping.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow, hoping for some positive news and am feeling confident we'll get some.

Hopefully, Fifita to Souths, Mitchell to Bulldogs, Arrow, Bronson and Lomax to us, Storm and Roosters to get kicked out of comp for cheating again.

And how on earth can Manly afford three players on $1m a year, and Big Marty wouldn't be cheap. 40% of their cap on 4 players...

No matter how you feel about Packer, to have a chance of making the top 8 in 2019, he simply must regain form. At the start of 2018 he was dominant and it really showed in our performances (5/6 wins to start that year).

Then, injury struck and he really struggled. That game against Parramatta where they lapped us thrice was embarrassing. There's a video out there of him pretending to make tackles while guys ran passed him.

Come on willow... Please tell!

Willow seems to enjoy threatening to ban people and having knowledge others crave. I don’t know but if I was to guess a personality type.......?

Now now Steve, I ban people when it is warranted. And I won't divulge info early that could potentially get this forum into trouble. Just be patient...Maguire has got what he wanted thus far and won't make the same mistake Ivan did with trying to sign players willy nilly over their pay grade.

McQueen is up around the 400k mark and will still be there for depth.

All in jest Willow. I appreciate the way this forum is managed. Makes it a decent place to visit.

Yes I’ll be patient. Is it Frizell??

Matterson release is purely business, players didn't want him there & we didn't want to pay a dollar more for him. If a deal was done prior to today it would of been, but he was always going to be released before the new NRL financial year started. We no longer contribute any $$ towards Matterson.
In relation to Lomax appears Dragons have put their foot down for 2020.......but don't rule out 2021.

Looks like he didn't get a farewell.
Good news.

As one player said to me when asked about it "he seemed like a nice guy"

Releasing Matterson in conjunction with the medical retirement of Matulino is the smart play in hindsight even though most of us would prefer a hard line approach it makes sense from a cap and player morale standpoint. I hope our first moves are extending and increasing Twal, Momirovski, Cini, Talau and signing players for 2021. We need a prop, edge backrower, hooker, fullback, centre and have 5 spots left. Interesting times.
