As the Pom said, the Titans salary cap is also in a mess so if Matterson is going there it won’t be for his current contract money ($400k??) it will be for much more. So I’m guessing if Matto wants $800k then the Titans will have to release someone on $800k.

That would put us over the cap so another guess would be a lower amount next year, more the few years later?

Or they both stay on the same amounts next season and then get a payrise the year after. Which we could offer him anyway. Is this about money, or is it about Matto being a massive sook acting like a crying little baby?

@THE_POM I can live with AJ Brimson and Arrow.

Ta ta Matterson, kama will eventually catch you....

Yea - a swap for just Brimson would need some serious compensation attached to it. Matterson is a future SOO and Aust rep. Brimson is a solid first grader at best.

Titans get Reynolds & Matto
Tigers get Arrow and Brimson

That would be a great change IMO.

Titans would be a force then.... matto holding thr middle and jey reys energy

We would come out infront though.

@Telltails If his form warrants him to play first grade so be it, but if he starts kicking stones like Moses , then he should be dropped, No player friend or not wants a team member not trying. For team harmony he should be just let off his contract as I said b4 it gives an indication that any team member can just leave the club on any whimsical reason, which is not good.

The reason is not the problem, he is. He is no value to us because he doesn't want to be here. Never said to give him away for free just don't see the point of making him see out his contract to spite him especially if he is in reserves - no benefit at all to us. Our best chance to get something for him is now, and the sooner the better.

Is it just me and my tin foil or does anyone else see room for conflict of interest given that both Matterson and Holbrook have the same management and Matterson still has two years to run on his contract?

Well I will bow to your superior knowledge on boring posts. Bagdad Bob had nothing on you.

Weak and pointless.

@Mighty_Tiger I think it’s a good deal both ways....as Titans lack that spark and energy whereas we lack talent😂

https://www.nrl.com/news/2019/09/20/tigers-to-grant-matterson-permission-to-negotiate-as-titans-option-looms/

Just posted by Michael Chammas. The Money Grabber is free to negotiate - has a relationship with incoming Holbrook at the Titans. Lets make this work in our favour now that he is as good as gone....

"The club has been dealing with Matterson on this issue for almost two months, when concerns were first raised about the forward’s feelings towards coach Michael Maguire." <-- someone probably told him to raise concerns and start trouble about the coach since he has a history of it at Souths... the funny thing is that's in the past and none of our current roster has any problems with our coach - again if his heart is not in it then let him go but we should benefit from whatever dealings there is to have

This release from Chammas is directly from the club !
To say the very least everyone is furious, Matterson is acting like a CHILD !
Don't rule out Jai Arrow the money he's on for next year is not overly more than what we are paying Matterson.
If Arrow would agree to a move in 2020 & increase in $$ for 2021 it's a real chance.
Madge does also rate Brimson highly.

Apprentice the info as always. As you say unless we get what we want he stays next season. Are there any other clubs involved in this or just the titans?

Since the news came out publicly a few clubs have asked the question, But Eels started this.

Well, if we can identify Parramatta as the instigator along with his manager and the player himself, we should immediately take NRL and court action seeking to have penalties applied to all parties. The NRL should take a stand because we're having the slippery slope of mental problems to get around contractual obligations and NRL rules. By Taj I ng court action as well you're making the NRL administration take this seriously too. Eels have been putting it over WT for some time now. Time to get that smug look off their faces.

This is my question as well. If Parra have induced all of this what is being done about anti tampering?? No doubt it will be like the Ivan fiasco where the NRL will sit back and watch. Then after all this is said and done they will come out and strengthen the rules to prevent this being repeated. Funny how the media also don’t report on such approaches as tampering with a contracted player.

There will be no 3,2,1 for the season until it is resolved.
He will be stripped of all points for bringing the game into disrepute. If he had stayed an extra year or two and then gone this he would even get a toilet block named after him, as it stands he is just another player who took us to 9th and not relevant enough. On that note, I believe the demountable toilets at Leichhardt should be named for Mitchell Moses.they are too skinny and can’t handle a big man running hard.

If Matterson goes to Parra and they fail again it will just prove they are the most ineffective cheaters in the game.

that unfortunately is the point. We have complained all season that reynolds, packer, mcqueen were in reggies/whatever not playing for any reason, and now we want our coach to actively keep a player in reserves when we could cash in and improve our situation?
I say if he wants out and titans want him then let's re-stock and get what WE want....brimson and arrow? sure thing get both clubs to hash something out and we will be in front.

My thought exactly. Where is the money coming from if Titans have the same salary cap restictions as us?

It can only be player trades and releases if true. Also I expect that Titans have been bracing to lose some players for a few months now, with Arrow going public about testing his options.

Make sure they only sign one year deals. It saves us from having to keep paying them if they don’t work out. If they turn out to be stars they would likely have a sook and leave for a better offer.

We won’t hold them back, it is to upsetting, destabilising or requiring a backbone or business nous.

players don't want one year deals as it offers no stability....and fair enough...but players their cake and eat it

Agree with @diedpretty

Agree to give the guy the support and rehabilitation to help him through his troubles while he's on the payroll for the next two years, if he doesn't want to turn up for us, refuse to play him and apply for cap exemption.

He will play if he knows he's going to languish in reserve grade or on the lounge for the next two years.

Not sure it is a conflict when bringing them together but a huge one when they fall out of love a la Hayne and one of them has to go.

@TheDaBoss I’d say that deal is more in favour of the WTs .
Matterson and Reynolds for Arrow and AJB would be equal

But this is a chance for us to get something better than equal for once...unfortunately it is at the expense of the poor titans
