Bigger issue is that when players reach their potential they all choose to leave Wests Tigers.
We need to sort this out too many players for it to be a coincidence.

Yep, that is THE issue................100% spot on.

The current finals series has got Tigers everywhere, on almost every team.

For whatever reason (actually, it is well known...poor facilities, lower levels of professional support staff...and on and on) but it has been a huge trend the past 5 years.

We need to address it and fix it.

I hate them both, but we need our own politis or crowe

I was trying to think of scenarios where we could actually benefit by letting Matterson go. So how about anyone who wants Matterson also has to take Packer and Reynolds? Could even do either Packer or Reynolds. In exchange we'd need a decent reliable forward on decent contract, a Chris Lawrence or Matt Prior sort of player, though I'd prefer the club got a younger version of them. Would probably be worth it to us for that.

It would be sad to see Matterson go, he was brilliant this year. If his manager has broken the story then that's disappointing by him, but if the story is true he at least played with spirit despite his dislike of our club. Players have contracts, but they're allowed to ask for a release. They cross the line when they go to the media or let it impact their performance. We should give Matterson the benefit of the doubt until this plays out. Not once did I suspect he was distracted in his play. I thought he played like he deserved to be captain and I felt like no one else matched his workload and commitment, so the guy has integrity and we shouldn't have a go at him.

That said, because the universe is cruel to the Tigers here's my baseless guess: I think roosters officials have spoken to Matterson and have said they regret letting him go. I think they plan to offload Crichton and they want him back. I think Matterson wants to be there and is working to get released to make it happen. Hoping it's all not true.

Does some of the blame here lie with Lawrence? Obviously he set the tone that going to the media with contract issues was acceptable.

That is drawing a long bow.

I don't think so. How many other clubs does this happen to? We had the 'big 4' who thought it was appropriate to use the media. Benji when he defected to union. It all feeds into the culture of whats acceptable and what's not. Especially when it's a leader of the group.

We need to stamp this behaviour out of our club. It's not OK to do this.

@ElleryHanley To quote Meatloaf. You took the words right out of my mouth. Am thinking he will be gone very soon.

@gallagher And we're still picking up the pieces.

We so need a break

No, need better management. The fool that has stuffed our cap, brought Cleary here and signed off on those contracts is still in charge.

Yes, I hate to knock anyone in their job...but Pascoe has been a disaster.

1. Brought in Cleary "his mate"
2. Allowed "his trusted mate" power over everything...sat back whilst Cleary offered guys like Packer, with a history of injuries and a crim record (thus no chance of a English SL exit) four years for 2 million.
Sat back and smiled whilst Cleary handed out "life changing" mega deals to Ben and Josh.
Never got wind of his "mate" about to betray us.
Naivety.........
3. Messed up the cap costing us around 600 000...i.e. two players.
Incompetence...................................

Pascoe has been a disaster and is the reason we are in this mess. He may be a nice bloke, but he is way, way out of his depth.

That he is still in his job after what has happened defies belief. In any decent club he'd be gone.

totally, Totally disagree with everything you said there.

I like Pascoe, but that's a fair summary. Our signings have been very poor and not much he's done has worked out well. What do you disagree with?

Can’t blame Pascoe for player signings. It’s agenda driven rubbish if you do. That’s on the coach. And if you want to blame him for hiring Cleary, then again, that’s ridiculous. As if he could have predicted that outcome. None of us could.

Fair enough, but at some point you have to say people just make bad decisions and hire bad people when almost everything they do goes wrong.

Honestly. Due to the Cleary disaster, Matterson knows he has 2 more years of pain if he plays for this club. By the time we actually may be potentially okay, he will be gone. The fact that guys like Reynolds , Packer and Mbye are on double the amount he is is laughable.

Something to do with the Board giving Cleary and now Madge control of recruitment.
Now if you want to recruit a good coach you probably have to do that. As I recollect last time we didn’t do that Bellamy said ta ta to WT and took a plane to Melbourne.

Some don't even hold him accountable for the salary cap debacle or 5 home grounds.

Again, I'm not a Pascoe hater but I just don't think, objectively looking at it, there's much you can point to and say that he's done well. Giving control of recruitment to the coach isn't a problem, but hiring a guy who recruits so poorly and not having processes in place to assist with good recruitment is a problem. Creating a new major salary crap problem after we so recently just got out of our last one isn't a great outcome. Happy to give him time, definitely don't wan't more change. Just saying that it hasn't been good so far, and let's hope it was all just bad luck and things are going to improve next year. Just we've been saying that for a while.

He's done so much wrong. Even the $600k ambassador role. Maybe $600k spent on the coaching support staff would have been smarter.

I’m so confused about matto....apparently it isn’t about the coin nor Madge.....it’s the fact he is depressed and isn’t enjoying his footy! I mean look all over Instagram he seems to always have a smile on....apparently this all started 10 weeks ago or something....then why did he help retain aloiai on less coin.....I feel we don’t have the full picture....he also supposed to be a Christian which really doesn’t equal some of the views and ideas the media are pushing regarding money

Pascoe has managed to secure two coaches that are largely considered two of the best going around. Penrith even sacked their coach to poach ours - cant be held responsible for that.
Coaches of Clearly/,Maguire's ilk are in control of the playing roster including valuing the players they wish to target not the CEO.
He may have screwed up the ambassador role though our chair at the time believed otherwise, and other than that he seems to be unduly criticized in my view.

Don't like players that think too much about themselves. He has a good year, will he be able to maintain it in his second year. Can he quarantee he won't have any injuries and maintain his standards?
I like achievers like momiroski, Thompson, Twal, Gardner, Marietta, Oliver and others that tried their hearts out. Madge has helped all the players improved and if they don't have their heads in the clouds we could be a top 4 side next year. With a couple of new players and improvement in the current ones, we will be a lot better the following year.

This is what happens when you continually remove or lose coaches .....happy footballers become unhappy footballers when the style of coaching and training changes

I can understand Matterson's view totally , he needs to be able to show off his ball skills and running game to make the next step ....because of our deficiencies he needs to play a total power game ...which isn't going to benefit his career long term

It this really a fair comment and do you (or we) have any idea what it is that Matterson supposedly wants. Do we have any idea if the club has discussed this with him ? What should we do about this ? Are all the players unhappy ? If not why not ? Is Matterson just another spoiled brat ?

I don't know but I think we maybe need to stop looking at all the players that leave and blaming them and maybe look at the club and its situation

My partner is a detective. She said if someone looks to the right when giving a statement/being interviewed, they are telling porkies
Did Madge happen to look to his right when speaking ?

I just remembered he scratched his chest at the start

Did he scratch his balls too?
Could be bad signs of he did.
Like Matto leaving, or the Club relocating to Perth....or crabs.

D) all of the above.

No wonder he’s looked a bit irritated
