Confirmed: Matterson released from Wests Tigers.

I have stayed out of this discussion until now mainly because I thought there was a big chance this was more a media beat-up than a real story. It's now looking very likely that Matterson has made up his mind he wants out.
I would love Wests to play this really tough with Matterson and his handlers. By that I mean we're open to a player swap but only if we end up in front on the deal. Matterson is good but not great and if we can land a better prospect by letting him go we should do it. We did it last year with Cleary by getting a better coach and having Penrith cover a fair slice of Maguire's salary. If we can't do a deal Matterson completes his contract by playing out the next two years at WT and we ignore the typle of mental health rubbish that Moses threw at us. We have to show the rest of the NRL and the media that we play it hard.

The swap for Jai Arrow could be on - I think Arrow’s girlfriend is keen to move to Sydney to further her modelling career. He’s a quality player and is on par with Matterson I reckon.

wouldn't be unpleasant having her hanging around the club

“Wests Tigers tire of money-hungry Ryan Matterson — and rivals are circling
Ryan Matterson has been granted leave due to “personal reasons”. But the story runs much deeper than that, with officials frustrated at the star forward’s behaviour and push for more money.

Wests Tigers are becoming increasingly frustrated with the behaviour of utility star Ryan Matterson, who was on Thursday granted leave from training for the rest of this season.

Club management won’t talk publicly but are sufficiently angry to tell Matterson — who they suggest is driven by money — he can walk away.

Well-informed sources believe Matterson wants a significant financial upgrade and is now “moping”, citing “personal reasons” for refusing to train.

The Daily Telegraph understands Matterson hasn’t formally sought additional money but Wests Tigers understand at least one Sydney club has shown considerable interest in Matterson, despite him being under contract at Concord until the end of 2021.

Matterson, 24, is telling club officials he is fatigued and worn out but management remains sceptical.

Wests Tigers forward Ryan Matterson has requested a leave from training for remainder of 2019 season due to personal reasons. Club has granted request

Some Wests Tigers officials are confused over Matterson’s behaviour but believe the crux of the drama surrounds his contract.

Wests Tigers admire Matterson’s football ability and want him to fulfil his three-year deal but his management met club officials last week seeking permission to negotiate with rival clubs.

A number of clubs are keen on Ryan Matterson.

However the club, under strict head coach Michael Maguire, won’t tolerate a player who refuses to buy into the Tigers’ culture. If Matterson isn’t committed, say club officials, he can leave.

Wests Tigers issued a statement which read: “Wests Tigers forward Ryan Matterson has requested a leave from training for the remainder of the 2019 season due to personal reasons.

“Wests Tigers have granted this request. The club will be making no further comment at this time”.

The Daily Telegraph has been told Matterson’s contract is worth around $350,000 a year but he could attract offers of around $550,000 per season from rival clubs.

Matterson — part of an extended NSW State of Origin squad this year — hasn’t been sighted at training since Monday. There has been conjecture about the working relationship between Matterson and Maguire.

Parramatta, Canterbury and Newcastle have been linked to Matterson but none have made any formal approaches just yet. The Bulldogs have had what has been described as a “nibble” at Matterson

Tigers signed Matterson this year on an inflated contract from what he was earning at his previous club, Sydney Roosters.

Matterson’s manager, Gavin Orr, said earlier this week his client was sick and had not trained on doctor’s orders.

After missing the finals this season, Maguire ordered his players to continue training up until NRL grand final on October 6.

Wests Tigers are looking to free up some salary cap space to possibly upgrade Matterson and re-sign stalwarts Benji Marshall and Chris Lawrence, players who digest the club’s culture.

I will be cancelling my membership rollover tomorrow. Want to see how this plays out

I’m doing the same. I sent an email to WestsTigers AFTER I rolled over my membership stating how disenfranchised I felt as a member. I listed many ways that I felt the club showed no respect for members. I also listed ways to turn members into advocates for the club. I received back an explanation that simply justified everything they did.
Now, yet again, we are in the middle of a crap fight. This garbage never happens at Melbourne or roosters.
I’ll always support the club and I’ll watch every game but I’m showing my disappointment by pulling my membership. Sad thing, the club couldn’t care less.

Doesn't rolling over the m'ship mean you are renewing?

If so, did you say in your email that you are opting out?

I initially opted in. I’ve since said not to renew my membership

Just clicked on the opt out link on my membership email, and apparently I have had a name change via deed poll and am now of eastern European decent known as Blagojce. God knows which email account is linked to my name

Sad Steve, Think we four may end up doing the same.

It’s been reported Penrith are one of the leading contenders for Matterson

Take it as fact, Penrith agreed to a Packer/DWZ swap and then reneged at the last minute, Tigers were furious

He won’t be going there without serious compensation

When will Greenberg take his head out if burgess’s arse and start doing his bloody job. When will he put procedures in place that stop this total disregard for contracts.?when will he put protocols around the behaviour of managers. Greenberg is so far out of his depth it’s not funny

@WT2K I can live with matto going to the Titans and us getting arrow...but if he dare moves on to the lying grub that’ll just tip me over the edge...my hatred of Ivan and those grubs had already reached the ceiling....I’m not sure where it’ll go if this is true

Thanks GNR4LIFE - any Seinfeld quote get a big tick from me!

I have the box set, with a book in a leathery box, brilliant show

I am a 13 year premium member and opted out today. Had the continued drama year after year. Good clubs sort this stuff out without having the media involved.

Anyway my advise to the club...show some b....and hold him to his contract...if you don’t people will continue to walk all over you like low life Cleary and Moses and nothing will ever change

That would be hilarious if Matterson went to Penrith. Ivan Cleary would have trouble walking alone in public in some areas of Sydney if he took Matterson from us.

If we let him go we deserve to be folded.

I wouldn’t go that far ...
Spoon .. maybe ?

No, folded. Through some miracle we’ve unearthed a gem at a good price and now we’re considering letting him go one year in. Screw that, if Maguire and Pascoe agree to let him go it’s an embarrassment.

Ok well this doesn't sound good at all.

Honestly fed up with this, can't catch a break.

2017 - Tedesco, Moses, Woods

2018 - The coach with 2 years to run on contract

2019 - Possibly Matterson with 2 years left on contract

Not a good look for a club losing its coach with 2 years left on his contract, followed by the club’s best player the following year with 2 years on his. I know the club wasn’t to blame with Cleary, but questions need to be answered if Matterson gets a release. Grow a backbone for Christs sake.

Yeah but memberships are up, $100k profit, things are gong great off the field, we've turned the corner.
