@GNR4LIFE I agree it is not beneficial at all but we need to make a stance so it doesn't happen again.. If we were a big club like Storm , Roosters, Souths etc.. they would not let one of there best players walk if they didn't get something in return FULL STOP..
It is a shame as I liked him a lot and thought we could build a team around him but I will be pissed if we get nothing..

@TigerTiger Tedesco, Woods and Moses were off contract at the end of the year they signed with other clubs. Therefore WT were not entitled to any compensation. You could possibly argue they could have got something for Moses because he went mid-season but I think they were glad to see the back of him and had lost the moral high ground with the media. They did very well out of the Cleary saga making Penrith pay top dollar for their treachery. There's no reason to think they won't do as well out of Matterson. I think the negative attitude towards the club is unfair and unwarranted.

Do you know the history of the cap. It was introduced with he draft in the 90s. Terry hill didn't want to go to a club that he was picked up on via the draft and took the Then ARL to court and won as it was deemed as a restraint of trade .
If a AFL player decides to take the draft on , irrespective of their union signing off on it , the AFL draft would be banned.

Now I will give my 2 cents why these matto issues and clubs trying to offload players occurring more past 2 years. It's due to Greenturd introducing top 30 squads.
1)Harder to introduce youngsters if top squad is useless and makes it less attractive to develop players as limited spots and opportunities.
2) the higher number of players in top squad counted in main cap (30) means with the larger overall cap , the few top players are on massive overs and does not leave much room to fit remaining 20 plus players in cap , which means clubs constantly offloading underperforming players or players new coaches don't like and also players willing to move around lots more to get average to very good contract money

The funny thing about Hills case was he wanted to play with Wests Magpies but was drafted by Easts. Went to court and won and ended up with Wests. How times have changed.

Teddy Moses and Woods were all off contract, the club was at their mercy without any leverage. With Cleary and Matterson they had/have them under contract. They have the upperhand. You’re comparing apples and oranges.

What would be the advantage to the Titans to release two of their best players who are under contract ...Then of course you need the players themselves to want to come...Brimson will be their fullback now Gordon is retired and Arrow could probably have his choice of Clubs should he leave..and probably on more than Ryan Matterson and what they would be prepared to pay for Josh Reynolds..and that we could offer them..doubt they would come cheap..

We would defo be in front on those trades but I don't see what benefit the Titans would get...

Tyson Frizzell looks like a Rorters signing to me..

He does not impact on the salary cap and therefore the roster. Matterson and any potential replacements do.

This is why people are making such a big deal about making Matterson stay or at least getting a better replacement for him if he does go. Teddy and Woods leaving us just made us look more undesirable as a location, it all adds to the picture.

I desperately want our club to take a stand here, either force him to stay or get a replacement, either way to show we won't be walked on. It's a huge (hopefully) turning point in our history.

Lol I remember we were all so excited about these signings at the time. I was expecting great things from that front row. Shame how it all turned out really.
