What would we gain from a cash settlement?? It would not help our cap situation except for Matterson’s contract money and we than have to find a replacement.
If we hand him on a plate to Parra we will be the laughing stock of the NRL

As for Moses he just went another level lower if that is possible

Could use the money to buyout a ESL contract?

any transfer fee goes onto the salary cap

Nope ... unless NRL rules have changed since 2015 Burgess to Rabbits ruling.

What about if said Player 'slab of meat' X has a contract with one of the Clubs interested in Our 'slab of meat' Matterson doesn't want to come...?

Then our slate of meat plays CC for the next 2 years.

Slimy Moses went to Parra, initially didn't get along with Brad Arthur but have now been able to work things out and Moses has gone ahead exponentially.

Ryan Matterson apparently didn't get along with Arthur either and left Parra. But now... 'if reports can be believed'... they, like Moses, have worked things out.

But Matterson and Madge/Wests Tigers apparently haven't been able to work out an agreeable resolution?

If Matterson leaves, as far as I am concerned...We/ Wests Tigers have a big problem.

Because its also a money issue for him. The club probably isn't willing to upgrade him till 2021 at the earliest.

He gets an upgrade 2020 to $415K is what I’ve read, but like what RF said have a great first half of next year the club will want to upgrade him and extend his contract.

We should at least get a bit of cash out of the Eels to fund our new COE dirty laundry room. Maybe a nice plaque to thank them for the gesture too.

Realistically in a player swap scenario it could be down to these guys:

AJ Brimson
Ryan James
Reed Mahoney
Shaun Lane

Do you have children ? West Tigers finally being an adult i dont have a problem with that ...

G'day @GNR4LIFE: irrespective of all the negative crap that has been written on our forum about Ryan Matterson, I feel if he did a turnaround and said "I'll stay and I don't want any more $$$" most on here would say Whoopie!!! as we all recognize him as being a quality player now, and... will get much better in the near future.

If it's only a matter of $$$, don't we have someone in the club who has the professional negotiating skill to be able to work out a deal benificial for both sides.

If we lose him, we lose a player that can attract other quality junior and/or senior players, then we have to start all over again and go through all the crap of finding a replacement who is just as talented as Matterson.

But, by the sound of things Wests Tigers have made up their mind to play hard ball, and yes I know we are building towards a brighter 2021, but that build needs to start now by retaining Ryan Matterson.

man alive if cokey the clown comes here then we are struggling.....
I'd take James and Brimson for mine

So in effect....for the eels this year....they get Matterson mid contract and we get to play them twice at their home ground.....

I'm disliking the eels more than anyone right now.....

the system is broken fellas. In my opinion its nothing to do with the tigers.

If i did well one season and could earn a few hundred thousand more at another club then why not? there's no repercussions or contingencies implemented by the crappy NRL anyway. Ditch a struggling club to go to a better performing club for more money and blame it on culture/mental illness/head aches/ sore foot/ head coach etc

why does the AFL have a trade system (and draft) like the NBA etc yet the NRL doesn't? Anyone know why? curious.

It's like we had tedesco and paperhazen and could have traded one of them for a brimson or Dylan Brown...but there doesn'y seem to be any incentive to develop juniors or keep players from leaving for essentially nothing...

partially why i don't really get excited about watching this sport anymore

@trentrunciman They introduced a Draft in 1991, but it was challenged in court by players who were reluctant to play for clubs against their wishes.

The players ended up defeating the NSWRL on appeal, where the court ruled that a Draft was a restraint of trade. It has never been challenged since.

I dug up the following which might be of interest :

*Adamson v New South Wales Rugby League Ltd

The Facts The case was an appeal by 154 professional rugby league players concerning the adoption of an internal draft in the rules of the New South Wales Rugby League Ltd. The respondents were the League and its 16 member clubs. The rules provided that a player whose contract of service with a club had expired and wished to change clubs could only do so through the internal draft. Lodging an application constituted an offer to any club; a contract was formed when the club drafted the player, accepting the offer and its terms. Priority in drafting was given in the reverse order to which the clubs were ranked at the finish of the previous year's competition. It is a condition of entry to the competition that a club agrees to be bound by the rules of the League. Contracts between players and clubs must also be made subject to these rules.*

Pretty sure the same thing happened with Bateman and the raiders, it was a fee outside the cap

It simple really matto for arrow take it or leave it

Yes but Matterson is on around $400k and i'd assume Arrow is on more than that. So we're swapping players of similar ability (imo) but paying much more for it. Those numbers don't really work for me.

@avocadoontoast a package deal of Reynolds and Matterson for Arrow and Brimson might just balance out the numbers 🙂
