Connor Watson

Lolohea is a much better fullback than Brooks is a half.

Watson's playing halfback if we've signed him.

Do you really think Brooks will be playing ISP on 550k?

And after all the talk of how Reynolds will mentor Brooks.

Watson will be playing fullback.

Whatever anyone says about watson. He looks like he always wants to be involved every play. Brooks and tui could learn from that.

Despite the Tigers’ substantial offer for Watson, which is more money than Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull takes home, Newcastle officials remain hopeful Watson will link with the Knights on a long-term deal.

Weird reference to the PM.

Yeah, I thought it was quite odd too.

Why do the media bag tigers all the time about paying overs!? So sick of it.

Hunt - dragons. 1.2 mill season.
Bird - broncos (centre) 800k
tamou -panthers 700-800k
moses - parra 800k
mbye - 750k (900k) backended.

yet we are the only ones overpaying!!!!

Hunt on 1.2m has got to be a joke?? now that's overpaying

6 into 4 doesn't go.
We'll have 3 playmakers under 23 all providing a lot of competition for one another.
With hopefully a big front row and a quick back row and centres these nippy guys should take massive advantage of this.
Mc will most likely play ISP unless Liddle really drops the ball.
Reynolds will be our only senior playmaker in the side so his guarenteed to have a mortgage on the right edge when fit.
So you've got one Halfback only in Brooks who probably wouldn't be too bad filling in at hooker if needed but would make a terrible fullback and finally 2 junior superstars who can be halves utility's and also the ability to play fullback.
If it is confirmed that Watson is coming our way. I would think this signing then ensures all of Brooks, Tui and Conner all push themselves competing for the first grade positions.
Brooks was never get too bothered by a 20 year old 5/8 but a wiz kid like Watson can keep him on his toes.
At the end of the day who ever makes the cut for the spine Gamble included, we can be asssured that it is selected on Merit!

6mill 5 years. no joke. Dragons were desperate at stsrt of the year.

500k for a talented player that will play fullback? seems reasonable in comparison.

So where does the Watson signing leave Tui?… another dud over priced rseerve grader playing ISP?.. just don't. Get it as Tui was also brought over to play fullback

This is a good signing.
A look at the last few seasons show that as soon as we lost a couple of backs especially 3/4 s we rarely won a game so plenty of depth now and someone creative to put pressure on our halves.
Classy player we have plenty to look forward to next year .
And despite paying "overs" reckon more signings to come.

I never heard once cleary or pascoe say he was going to be fullback. They just talked about what he can bring to this club.

Depends who we sign but the most likely outcome is Watson replacing Brooks with Tui at fullback if he doesn't improve fast. Suli will be in reserve grade if we sign rumoured backline players.

Suli won't be in reggies, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if he moves to the backrow. The more I see of him, the more I see him in the forwards, he's already being used as a battering ram, he dents the line on every carry and I'd wager he'll be 3-4kg heavier next year and stronger given he's only 18/19\. He's mobile but doesn't possess great speed, and if you watch when the Tigers get burnt out wide, Suli quite often doesn't have the pace to foot it with his opposite. I don't see him as a long term centre option.

We talk about strengthening the forward pack, well Suli as an edge backrower does that.

I rate him very highly his start to the year for rookie was as good as Inglis and Folau as rookies. He has hit a wall which, probably should be expected. He lacks that mental hardness and aggression which, may come with time but currently his defence is terrible. He's a few years away from the forwards and it will drastically help if McQueen is defending alongside him.

It's his speed which concerns me, he doesn't have the pace to get on the outside of his opposite, and I haven't seen anything to suggest he can outsprint any opposite outside back over 50 metres.

With wingers who are big and fast, Suli will put them into space. Ryan Girdler was never a noted speedster but he could set up his winger, defend and run a good line.

Tigers to win race for Watson
The Mole

The game’s new big spenders - Wests Tigers - are set to gazump Newcastle to sign classy Roosters rookie Connor Watson for next season.

The Knights have been quietly confident for weeks that they had Watson under lock and key with a handsome $350,000 a season offer for three years.

But the Tigers have jumped in with a late bid worth close to $600,000 a year - a stunning amount for a kid with less than 30 NRL games to his name.

With Mitchell Moses leaving the club recently and new boy Tui Lolohea out of his depth at five-eighth, the Tigers see Watson as the man to fill the key number six jumper.

The Roosters want to keep the classy 21-year-old, man of the tournament at this year’s Auckland Nines, but his path to a halves spot at the club is blocked by established stars Mitchell Pearce and Luke Keary and they will reluctantly let him go.

 I think Moley forgot Josh Reynolds….600K oooooh..

No offence to Brooks, who I quietly hope will improve, but he aint a hooker's butthole.

Watson is unproven. Its easy to look good in a Roosters side who dominates and you come on at the back end of games. So far he's been a downhill skier. Jackson Hastings looked like the next immortal playing next to Pearce. Where is he now? That isn't sarcasm, where is he? Last i heard Manly reserve grade. Not sure if he's still there.

Back to Watson. The above example about Hastings is proof that you take form from a young kid in a strong side with a grain of salt. I hope he's a star, but he's far from the sure thing most are making him out to be. Atm he's a kid with potential. And how many times have we been sucked into that? Both as a club and as supporters. Learn from your mistakes.
