Cooper Cronk Released From Storm

Cronk will sign with Souths.
Walker to fullback, Inglis in the centres and Johnstone back to the wing.

The Eels will be their main rivals Norman back to 5/8 and Gutherson back on the wing when Radradra leaves.

Hopefully we are smart enough to have an ear to the ground to find out which club is leading the race to sign Cooper… If he is looking at lifestyle, Roosters, Cronulla, Rabbits & Manly might be looking to off-load a few handy players in key positions which may help us?!

Norman is reported as being on $730-750K for his current deal and is their primary playmaker. Do you really feel Eels can afford a million bucks per season on his halves partner?

Also do you reckon GI is on-board with being shifted to the centres?

Personally I think Tigers have the ability to get him (space / money), it's whether we would interest Cronk or not, have the pulling power. Compare being rung up by Lenny Pascoe or Rusty.

Good point. Manly have DCE, Roosters Pearce and Keary, Rabbits Reynolds and Walker, Sharks Maloney and Townsend.

I'd be calling the Dogs and making a player swap happen as they need him board is under pressure. Take on Kasiano, Graham to free up room.

Oh and Roosters, their halves are set already.

If nothing else, this puts WT in a much stronger bargaining position with Broses because clubs will now be looking at Cronk instead of Broses, a Ferrari instead of a Fiat, if you will.

Unless Broses want to go to Melbourne, I hear there is a big opening down there.

Being the Tigers, you know what would happen right?.. Storm take Brooks off our hands, he goes on to become a superstar. Cronk, despite not suffering any major injury setbacks over his entire career is ruled out for half of his playing contract with us and we're filling the gap every second month with a park footballer quality makeshift half lol.

Both coaches are ex Storm Michael McGuire and Brad Arthur and have strong financial backing. We are the wrong fit for Cronk he is a winner and ageing we are rebuilding.

The press have been saying Parra have cap space galore after Foran pulling the pin

It would be great to sign Cronk, but the strategy here should be to watch the player market shift with the salary cap pressures (lower than expected) and what it will do to the club that signs Cronk. Foran will also add some spice if he also decides to move back to Sydney…interesting times ahead, our four might need to get their finger out and sort their futures before it becomes a buyers market.

Also, will be interesting to see what Melb do, they will also spare change to buy quality with Cronks money.

If we miss out on him. We should aim for the players the club who gets him has to offload to fit him in.
Roosters no not enough cash
Cronulla ? If they lose Bird
Parra - will have cash after semi but might be worried after Foran
Manly ? When does Stewart's Mayan money become available

LOL keep dreaming guys, this club management wouldn't be smart enough to want him or even know how to sign him. instead they will go after some unproven reserve grade player or someone past their prime in their 30s then overpay them to play for other clubs

Richo from Souths just told Fox Sports they've ruled out a play for Cronk as they've locked in Reynolds and Walker long-term.

Anyway why are we a wrong fit? Yes Cronk is a winner and we desperately need a winner. Souths and Parra have not done much winning the last two seasons (plus 5 rounds) either.

Every team can afford the salary cap, so in terms of strong financial backing, that either means off-field spending or TPAs. Certainly in off-field we are worse off than other clubs, though Cleary might shake that up and there is the new CoE plan. TPAs-wise we just have no idea, it's speculation. Normally heavy TPAs are associated with Roosters / Broncos and they are almost certainly not involved here.

It would be a slam dunk to ring up Uncle Harry and say "let's use next year's TPAs towards Cronk and Tedesco first and foremost".

Manly is a dark horse, but haven't the NRL closed the door on that?

Cronk is a must…

get rid of brooks, naquama, hunt, rankin, lovett, lawrence, sue, red head fella.

get cronk, matulino, glenn and dean whare. Plus another winger.

Why the hell would Manly want another halfback when they are paying that bloke DCE millions?? if the roosters and manly continue to get players all the time the salary cap is useless.

I think we can rule out the below

Manly - DCE & GREEN - Not going there
Souths - already said no
Roosters- pearce plus keary plus the junior guy - NO
Penrith - cleary/Martin, whole roster almost re-signed - NO
Sharks- maloney/townsend/birds - NO

Thats leaves
Bulldogs - need 1 more half
Parra - partner corey norman
Tigers - build a team around him

I dont think any of the above will make finals this year. If bulldogs get foran or moses then that leaves it down to 2 teams. Parra also aggressively chasing Bird. We might be last man standing .

If we get him tedesco and woods wont be going anywhere.

Cleary and Cronk share an agent (as does Hasler).
As per jirskyr, I think we're on the shortlist by default, and we'd be crazy not to have a serious play.
That said, it's terrible news for Broses, as they've just dropped down another rung of the free agent half rankings for this coming summer.

I think that we should at least put an offer for Cronk even if it inflates his price for other clubs.

This puts us in such a stronger position. If bulldogs go for cronk, we keep broses. if not we go for cronk. Broses price has nosedived 25% on this news. All good for us.
