First person outside China dies of new coronavirus as toll passes 300

The Philippines reported the first death

My sister in law is a doctor in the Philippines and she said if there is a major outbreak, they would not be able to deal with it. She also said there are a lot of mainland Chinese in the Philippines now and does not trust the PH government to report the virus as it should.

There's no doubting some countries will definitely struggle to treat affected people properly.

Your sister in law is right on both points. Most people in the phils can not afford health care and the leader/dictator Duterte will conceal everything he can.My wife is Filipina and is still there in Northern Samar unfortunately(needs visa to come home)

I got out of Hong Kong on Saturday. Whilst is actually reporting a better infection rate than Australia, they didn't close their borders during CNY and there is a huge migration of people during that time. I think they're about to get smashed.

I'm taking every precaution and have the family under self-quarantine for 14 days.

I decided against taking our upcoming travel a couple of weeks back, as the risk, particularly on planes and at airports is just too high for me.

Where were you travelling to?

Yes it does get the worst of the typhoons my wife was there when they had the really bad one Typhoon Yolanda it was called there about 5 years ago.She said that the official death figures where a disgrace and it was over 10000 and not the figures reported by the government

100% good call. We had a trip to the Philippines for CNY vacation which we cancelled on the same basis.... and because they had the whole volcano thing too.

For our flight back, we went via Singapore, protected ourselves well and forked out for Business to lower the risk. Surprisingly, our HK to SING flight was practically empty and the Aust govt china ban timing worked out perfectly for our 2nd leg. I did notice there were a few more vacant seats than originally booked.

Where were you travelling to?

South East Asia and possibly back to Japan for the end of the snow season later this month on a series of one way flights. Looking at short stays in a few cities, though I had not sorted out the itinerary at the point of deciding against it.

Mundine says that its invented by the government to just have a Mass Vacine administered.... lol

Stranger things have happened.

The public vastly underestimates the impact this will have on the Australian economy. Our education and tourism industries are heavily reliant on the Chinese markets. A lot of businesses may go belly up, and universities have to suddenly cut costs if the outbreak drags on

Who cares ... the main priority is to protect our nation from this virus nothing else matters ..if businesses can not absorb a couple of months of downturn they should not be in business ... Universities they have turned into capitalist institutions poor dears suck it up !
The public have not underestimated this virus at all if your in business you take the risks that’s it .

Cruise boat off Japan has ten confirmed cases from 31 cases tested

3717 on the boat ....you'd expect that figure to rise

And a couple of Aussies confirmed amongst them.
