uh, so why did my comment get deleted? i made a succinct argument about racism and critically argued my point. So the mods cannot be debated? look forward to your reply.

Lazy thinkers.

The borders should never been closed from the start. should be closed 4-5 days ago because we now know more about the virus. Your just reacting to the sensationalized corp media.

If we closed our borders from the start? How about our economy? preemptively closing our borders on the first day? there is no logic to that.

This morning Josh frydenberg got ask how much it would cost the budet and australia’s economy and the dept of finance subsequently predicted through modelling it would cost 5 billion dollars every 2 weeks before we knew anything about the virus/

the closure of the borders was slightly slow but its right to close when they know how the virus spreads when its contagious but they know it incubates and takes a long time (2 weeks ) before the symptoms are obvious. How can you afford to close the borders to all chinese before we have all the facts? What about Chinese who have travelled through other legs journeys through to Australia?

its still overkill, the chances of someone getting this is lower than you getting hit by lightening. That is verbatim from my doctor who i saw today at shortt street leichhardt after i got the staph infection in Iran.

There is like a 1 in a million chance of you contracting it because there are like 9 people in australia that have it!!!

WHO last few days declared it a global epidemic because they need to declare it to release funds to less develop funds to prepare for it, like cambodia, Laos, Mynmar to release money /funding to ensure they can do quarantining if it does spread.

Put a stop to the flights today

Yeah a week to late ...
Just like the bushfire disaster ..

Should’ve stayed in Hawaii permanently

Hard to argue...

Overreaction to keep people happy.

In your opinion. Other countries have taken more serious steps than Australia.

Yep.

We always seem to bend the knee to other countries.

Your PM just admitted on sky news he had to talk to NZ PM before deciding what to do. It's alright Jacinda has always had your back.

// this isn't meant to be antagonistic, but how many people would admit that?

Well, she has demonstrated how to run a country properly for her constituents thus far, so he has to learn from someone. Then again, the guy doesn't admit to anything, so unsure as to what's the go.

Excellent post. I cannot believe some of the comments I’m hearing all across the media. I thought we were better.
Watched ‘Mercy’ at movies yesterday. Seems we’re still the same. Just run on no knowledge and we continue to be influenced by sensational misinformation. The hate the Chinese are experiencing at present by some is nothing short of sickening

Coronavirus, bushfires could slow economic growth

Josh Frydenberg says the coronavirus and the bushfires will have a “significant impact” on the economy.

There is increasing pressure on the government’s ability to deliver a surplus in the May budget following the bushfires and the decision to stop inbound travellers from China from entering Australia.

The Treasurer said factors outside of the government’s control – especially the situation in China – would cause problems but it was still not clear what the extent of the damage would be.

“What we do know is that these events outside of our control are going to have a significant impact on the Australian economy,” he said.

“China is a critical economic partner for us. They’re the greatest source of foreign students – over 200,000 into Australia. 1.4 million tourists.

“Together, those two sectors provide about $16 billion to the Australian economy. And they are the recipients of around 30 per cent of our trade.

“But it’s too early to give a definite view about the economic impact because we don’t know how severe and how sustained the virus outbreak is.”

Mr Frydenberg knocked back several questions on whether Australia would suffer a negative quarter of growth, but did not rule it out. He also did not rule missing the target of a surplus.

“When it comes to the outbreak of the virus, when it comes to the fires, when it comes to the floods. When it comes to the trade tensions between the United States and China, we can’t control those factors. But it does underline the importance of our disciplined economic management,” he said.

“The economy has been resilient through tough circumstance that we can’t necessarily control. But the key point here is that you’ll see direct impacts. So trade, tourism, students. You’ll see indirect impacts.

“In terms of having a balanced budget, that’s a significant achievement. In terms of a surplus, you’ll have to tune in on budget night.”

The federal government will deny entry to Australia to foreign travellers who have left or passed through mainland China amid the rush to contain the global spread of the deadly coronavirus, of which 12 cases have been confirmed in Australia.

Australian citizens, permanent residents and their immediate family, legal guardians and spouses will be excepted from the strict measures, announced by Scott Morrison on Saturday.

The government has also raised its advice level, warning travellers simply: “Do not go to China”.

On Sunday, Mr Frydenberg said more than 150 Australian citizens due to be evacuated from Wuhan to Christmas Island would not be charged $1000 per head to escape the epicentre of the outbreak as the government had earlier advised.

DId anyone else see the interview with the father of the three poor kiddies who were killed by that drunk driver? I cannot imagine the pain he is experiencing but the way he held it together in the face of unbearable anguish was admirable. When will drivers learn about the dangers of drink driving?

Thinking of your situation
& Everyone going through it

How could they ever recover? They won’t. Life will never be the same. Very very sad

*“So, let us not be blind to our differences--but let us also direct attention to our common interests and to the means by which those differences can be resolved. And if we cannot end now our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity. For, in the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children's future. And we are all mortal.”*

The Philippines reported the first death

My sister in law is a doctor in the Philippines and she said if there is a major outbreak, they would not be able to deal with it. She also said there are a lot of mainland Chinese in the Philippines now and does not trust the PH government to report the virus as it should.
