General feeling down here in Vic is that the whole state will be back into lock down by the end of the week. Probably the right call anyway.
Interesting take on the social housing issue. Broken down lifts, shared laundry facilities, no balconies, cramped common area and narrow hallways - surely we can do better than that. I understand the point that the Chief Medical Officer was making, but it's a bit rich refering to them as vertical cruise ships. Shines a spotlight on another welfare issue, not unlike the inadequate jobs seeker payment pre-covid19.
I remember the social housing in Pyrmont Bridge Road, but my recollections are that it was much better than what we have in inner Melbourne.

I have family on the far south coast. One member is recovering from cancer treatment so next to no immunity from any sort of illness or infection. Victoria's situation is a nightmare for her especially given so many of them holiday in Merimbula/Tathra. I'm sure those down that way are breathing a sigh of relief, but I really don't see why they can't take action immediately instead of closing borders in a few days after the decision has been made. Incidentally, I cross the qld/nsw border regularly. And it's kind of pathetic. They slow everyone down to 40 and almost every single car goes though unchecked. So, it's hardly a water tight plan of attack

It is disgraceful that WA is now wanting to limit overseas arrivals of returning Australians and now implement charges for two weeks quarantine in hotels. This is because it is afraid of the risk of coronavirus and also the cost to WA.

WA is quite happy for NSW to take nearly all returning Australians and for NSW to foot the bill. This pandemjc really brings the worst out in States.

This one is hard for me, though more than three and closing in on four months into this pandemic travel shutdown, they have long had the chance to return. As such, barring exceptional circumstances, I have no trouble with the government's making anyone without a history of evidence showing that they have been trying to return for some time to pay their own costs.

Apart from that, they are/were all Australians, or at least permanent residents and as such it should be a federal government funded and/or provided program for mine.

It is interesting that the new cases compared to new deaths (globally) continues to be quite different. New case numbers on the left keeps rising, but new deaths has plateaued well below the peak, at around 3-5,000 each day.

I suspect that might be a product of more widespread testing.

The increased testing will pick up more people with low level symptoms or who are asymptomatic. In the earlier phases of the disease those people would not have been tested and detected so the number of deaths as a proportion of those infected will appear to have been higher.

There is a lot of speculation that we will go back into lock down here in Melbourne (possibly right across Victoria) with Danial Andrews scheduled to give a press conference this afternoon. (Nearly 200 new infections detected overnight).
Anyway, I better duck out now and get some more toilet paper.

Feel sorry for those in Melbourne that are going back into lockdown, but hey it has to be done and I think we have been quite lucky that it hasn't come back with vengeance here north of their border as well, because there has been plenty of ignorant behaviour. It is tough for most of us and really tough for some, though for each of us that is irresponsible in these times, many are likely to be affected by rolling closures over an extended period.

I just watched the Italian soccer players videos of trying to escape Victoria for Sydney at like 1am last night . Watching the AFL and A league , also leagues in the US , even the Super rugby , all take a massive turd whilst trying to organise a season , really puts the amazing job NRL has done into perspective . These are very selfish people who have no regard to NSW citizens. I would imagine many are retired travellers who are in the high risk category and are old enough to know better. I like the idea of all of them being forced into compulsory two week quarantine st their own expense.

Very concerning.

I wonder if the second wave is not as aggressive as when it first hit months ago. Those most at risk may have already been hit in the first wave and with measures already in place and those who remain at risk now taking greater precautions than before, the second wave is not having the same impact in the number of serious cases and deaths.

When people are locked up with each other , their relationship either grows stronger or becomes indifferent. We can see this in the nrl teams. Some teams have developed better teamwork and play for each other. While some teams are imploding.
