Just reporting in from London.
Sorry for being quiet posting and stuff... it's been strange times here.
We are about to head back into lockdown 2. While I've no doubt that it will not be as bad as the last one, it's still a daunting month ahead.

Last week a friend up in Manchester tested positive (she's now fine and back at work), then my old housemate (he's fine too) and just today my rugby club's team captain got a positive result.
Again, they are all fine, but it's amazing seeing how quickly it moves.

I won't lie, I've looked at flights back home but there isn't anything available; I probably wouldn't take a flight as I'm fine, but I see why other people would. It's not the virus that's scary, it's the economic and social impact that is.

Keep safe champion Kul.

Agree and disagree. Had a family member overseas who was positive and had to be admitted for shortness of breath. It seems that he'll be OK now but the virus is definitely going to have an impact on the "at risk" population. There is absolutely no way that the health system copes if we think about the economic impact.

In the countries mentioned before, lockdown should continue until a vaccine is ready

Sorry, I should qualify that that was a comment entirely about my own healthy situation, not others in the community who may have other health issues and face a greater risk

Wow, while everyone has been watching the US election, the last few days coronavirus has been going NUTS.

The last 24 hours is going to be the deadliest on record by a long shot, with over 9,000 deaths already and more deaths still being counted. Will probably end up over 10,000 deaths by the end of the 24 hour period.

Europe is getting especially hammered.

1,600 covid deaths in Spain alone in the last 24 hours. So in one day they've doubled what Australia's death count is for the entire outbreak.

Generally agree, though the Spanish daily numbers are again getting worse and going to be bad, that number is a revision heavy figure.

Kind of puts it in perspective doesn't it.

While there is a lot to criticise about our response to Covid, at least Australians received mostly straight forward instructions on what to do and the vast majority of us were prepared to follow those instructions (even if we disagreed with some of them).

We are also fortunate in that we don't have borders with other countries and it was relatively easy to shut down international travel. As Paul Keating once said - when they were handing out continents, not very many people got one.

You were correct about the Spanish number (it did seem a massive jump). Most of the number was subsequently removed from that 24 hour period. And yet the global tally was still above 9,000 for the day.

I believe that is a regular occurrence for them and yeah, the death numbers are starting to reflect the recent expansion of the virus.

On another note, regardless of one's thoughts on the security guard issue that has taken up so much of the story down there, is great to see the Victorian zeros stacking up to allow further safe opening measures.

I was told today that there is a meeting in regard to one of the directors at the club I work at...his wife has tested positive to covid and they have to isolate, trouble is he was at a presentation at the club last night...
I was also told,as many who know me,I live in the Southern Highlands of NSW,that the swimming pool is closed as of today as well as the council chambers, the primary school,Aldi store and High school will be closed as of Monday...all at Moss Vale...
dire days ahead unfortunately and just as we thought we were on top of the situation...

My immediate concern as well, as he was an obvious close contact to someone awaiting testing results at best. A person that is a director of anything should know much better.

Mine too, being there before being told to isolate i can understand and too be honest NSW is a world leader in dealing with these situations. If he and someone that was at the club test positive everyone that was there when the infected person was there will be deemed a close contact and directed to isolate for 14 days. So they will get on top of it relatively quickly. The concern for me is whether this person was walking around after being told to isolate.
