Well, NSW numbers are up again today and it's the same old spiel from Gladys...The lockdown hasn't worked, in so far as she could have, and should have gone harder with it.

I'll be surprised if she relaxes any restrictions next month.

You think we're looking at a long lockdown?

My sister in law has a wedding booked for next month.
Wonder how that'll go...

Hunter/Newcastle entered a 7 snap lockdown.
I have no doubts it will be extended.

I can also see the planned vaccination of Year 12 Students turning into a disaster ..

100's of teen ages milling around...what could go wrong..

I just can't see us getting out of this Demps. Maybe it's just my frustration at the whole thing with the way it's playing out, but it's clear people who have the virus either aren't aware, or don't care because they are still out in the community and it's continuing to spread, which means resources will be spread thinner, reducing their effectiveness.

100%

Rough times ahead.
Craving some normality.

But yeah, people need to follow the rules.

you guys are a chance, i don't know what your numbers are like up there but you would think they have their own set of contract tracers etc to prevent it replicating sydney

Sydney i can't see us having any sort of xmas/nye at current rates, unless Gladys goes hard right now. the numbers of active in the community and isolation status unknown are consistently way too high (200 today). plus unknown sources of infection up to 171 meaning there's a stack of people out there not knowing they have it (or caring) or not scanning into places

we are screwed until she locks down hard across the city, but I'm sure i heard her carrying on about letting the unaffected LGA's have more freedoms, I'm sure that will end well

It’ll be a long off season for us footy heads

But, but, but, "delta is different, it doesn't understand borders" when asked about "ring of steel" like options to stop the virus spreading. I want to swear and am mumbling such as I type.

What a ridiculous statement, it's as if Gladys is trying to tell us that the virus is spreading by itself and another half a million additional constituents are in lockdown because this variant decided the Hunter and Lake Macquarie were nice places to visit so it launched itself there to have a beach party.

I ask that we open our minds to multiple factors to address a complex question.

Mate - you can see what happens when you do this. You've formed your opinion which is cool.

Let's not try and hide the reality of the situation though. It might be unpalatable but opening up is going to lead to increased deaths. We can mitigate this via vaccines but the political disinformation being propagated is going to make this less effective.

My mind is though completely open. I understand where you are coming from.

And what exactly is my opinion?

You want our governments to implement less lockdowns/restrictions that what has been occurring.

If I'm wrong please correct me but try and be transparent.

@willow my Mrs just got back from the shops.
Said it was dead down there.

Saw footage of local (to me) Woolworth and Coles yesterday and they were chaos.

Good to see the people of Lake Macquarie/Newcastle doing the right thing... for now, at least.

The delta variant is twice as infectious and it's really hard to get under control. I'm worried as well.

Clearly the government has got it wrong and the kicker is it may be too late.

I tell you what is worse those kids going back to school. They will have 1 jab at best as well.

My son is in that category. He will get vaccinated and go back to school. He is in year 12. I told him let me know what he thinks.

Surely kids are going to spread it.

I am so sick of the disinformation being spread by people. COVID kills. It's not a political battle for your freedom. COVID doesn't care about your political conspiracy theories.

The disinformation means people don't care.

I'll repeat this story again. My wife is from a Fillipino background. Her sister married a Muslim whose family who live in Lakemba. My sister in law calls my wife to catch up last week or the week before but while we were in lockdowns. She suggests going to the Eastern Suburbs to meet up with her daughter. She is refusing to get vaccinated because she doesn't want those chemicals in her body.

There are people on here playing some crazy political game.

Just be clear on this though. People went out when they should have been in lockdown. The rules were in place to stop people moving. The army have been called in.

At what point do we blame society and especially the people peddling disinformation.

How hard is it to follow the rules ?

I think this is going to keep getting out. It's twice as contagious. If somehow we get it under control that is awesome but it's not going to be easy.

At some point though Australia is opening up. Maybe it's now. Maybe NSW has stuffed it so bad now the government have already given up. I don't know.

It's not exactly a difficult prediction that Australia and New Zealand will have to open up further over the next couple of years. It's coming.

Cheers bro, we might have a few more days of concern yet, but today was much better news than the rest of this week 🙂

I wouldn't get too confident either. I hope you are right and everyone follows the rules and you get through this with the least possible damage.

NSW was the gold standard. Then came the Delta variant.
