I have never understood how a society is supposed to function harmoniously where the individual is conditioned to look after themself first and foremost at the expense of others. Stupid concept.
What surprises me is that we are surprised by this stupidity
I know I will sound like and old fogey, but I have been saying for some time now the view that Aussie's are laid back, open to a fair go and selfless is one of the most overblown lies going around
For years now common courtesy on the roads, to the elderly, to teachers and others in the usual positions of respect is now long gone.
The Oz I grew up in is hardly recognisable IMHO
Global concerns. Generational changes.
We’re no less high and mighty than you may feel at some point in your life - just a different climax... think it’s a bit of a pot shot labelling all youths, learners and assistants as lacking respect, courtesy and patience pretty much. IMHO, we’re coming out on top, slowly
And that’s no thanks to any Govt. aid
I didn't interpret that as aimed at only youths, on the road every work day I see drivers with no courtesy for others. Young, old, male, female drivers.
This corona is getting serious. The gov needs to be bring in very tough penalties for hoarding now. Saying 'naughty naughty' doesn't work. They need to take it seriously, it's their job to lead this country, not look after themselves and their own financial interests.
Put some police at the supermarkets. Make the government office workers work from home where they can. I understand closing schools will deplete the workforce, (estimated at depleting the health workers workforce by 30% due to child minding tasks) which they really don't want to do unless they have to, fair enough. But there's a lot more they can do which they aren't.
As a society, the fear and panic is rising, I don't know if we can do this for another year??
Couldn’t have said it any better myself. The ‘extended peak’ will hopefully prevent a full blown market crash and any future stimulus will need to come at a time that is sustainable for govt, otherwise of course, the standard of living we’re so accustomed to may become unattainable.
For example, the Centrelink one-off payment rolling out next week will/should definitely help the at risk citizens in our society - but won’t make a damn difference if people continue panicking.
I saw the post itself as somewhat condescending and just wanted to mark it as not pertaining to (I’d hope a majority of this forum) lots of the folks I choose to spend time with in real life! Whether they be gay, straight, white or black.
