Anyone following the situation in the US? Is there anything they won’t politicise? Apparently it’s made up by the media and hacks on Twitter, even politicians are telling people to go out and carry on with their lives like nothing is happening. “How dare they tell us what to do. We have an amendment for this”. They’re even buying guns lol. Sick country.

You're right. Applause should go to Labour for not turning this into a political opportunity. Last thing we all need is to be arguing politics at this time. Good post.

Great point. I havent voted Labor for a long time and I hadnt considered your point but you are right and credit should go to them if thats the case, lets hope it remains the case.

Spot on, Labor should be voted in on the basis the current leadership group are already working with China - to see and enquire about the *potential* for a vaccine/herd immunity ideas - given our relatively good working relationship.

I know Morrison wants another term. We should as a people, hopefully, be willing to see through the vanity and cynicism with which he’s approached this crisis. It’s a poor reflection on the Australian People’s as well as the Libs... look at them dropping like flies - for a few extra bucks.

I know who I’ll be voting for.

Don’t think it was ever a hoax, nor did I see weststigers say that above... definitely a liberal sentiment to turn this into a joke, however...

Hahaha fair enough, Dazza

We shall note this all down as it’s great anecdotal information for the next mutation. My experience is most people, by nature, can’t keep views aside.

I still think the biggest mistake we are heading towards is the local elections in Qld

Going into polling booths ...sharing pens ...it just reads as a disaster to me

It's been nice to see actually. Both parties have put their differences to one side and not used it as an opportunity to push their political ideology.

What they are saying doesn’t make sense
The reason people are buying guns is to protect themselves from people who are going to go ferrel

I'm not sure if you misinterpreted my post as negative, but I was genuinely making the point that we are not playing politics in this country like they are in America and it's good to see. Hope you're doing well during this tough time.

but the Chinese government should be slammed for trying to keep a lid on their doctors during the initial outbreak. Given the carnage this has and will cause, people have every right to be angry about it.
It was incredibly irresponsible of them if nothing else and now the rest of us have to pay the bill.

I think most people agree with you in terms of China handling the outbreak poorly. They aren't alone. Most countries reacted poorly and most did not have the experience with SARS and MERS that have assisted some Asian countries in responding more rapidly. Some Asian countries also have cultural advantages about "taking orders" and consideration of others, respect for elders etc., which can help curb hoarding, help increase compliance.

I think most Australians can easily separate between the Chinese people, including Chinese-Australians, and China as a Communist Power.

I certainly don't trust the Chinese government when it comes to dealing with Australian interests, and why should I? They have shown great self-interested and, at times, deceit for the past 20 years. I don't like the way they try to police their own people. I do not think that China is as worried about the ROW as it is worried about itself. They are not even a legitimate Communist regime, because of the disparity between the haves and have-nots. China is basically run by Capitalist Socialist Ideologists.

That all being said, all the criticism in the world is probably going to have no impact whatsoever on the Chinese Authorities. They don't listen to Westerners as it is. There will be a huge reckoning in 1-2 years from now, when the pandemic has come under control and every government goes back to try and learn from the lessons observed. Italy will overhaul it's hospital and aged-care systems. The EU will reconsider its border strategies given how quickly the virus exploded there. Basically every Western school in the world will need to implement a permanent learn-from-home strategy that can be implemented in times of crisis.

The Chinese? They'll do something or other to try and show the world they have learned from corona, because that's now 2 viral pandemics (SARS and COVID-19) that have emerged from China. They may ban wet markets and reduce live-food trade. They have the ability to very aggressively police anything they choose to. There will be high global political pressure on those wet markets and other Chinese wildlife practices. Perhaps the Chinese population itself will be spooked and avoid those markets, in much the same way that the British recoiled from beef during mad cow, or the way that most Japanese don't seek whale meat any more.

New restrictions effective immediately...100 max indoor gatherings, pubs, clubs etc 1.5 metre distancing..
no handshaking or hugging except for family..if you have to self isolate it is for 2 weeks in your room,no going out shopping, running or other outdoor recreation..
this was a release by PM Morrison this morning ….sky news reporting...

At my local Coles today was the first time security guards were employed to handle panic buyers..
I went in at 8.10 am after the elderly and disabled finished shopping...
No toilet paper left
No handtowels left
No sanitisers left
As at 2.15 yesterday afternoon here where I live...butcher sold out of meat as did IGA ,coles..
apparently the panic buyers are buying up meat, frozen pasta.frozen pizzas etc...
I spoke to a middleaged man with a family and he said how absolutely ridiculous this panic buying has been...I tend to agree, but worse is the lack of common sense shown by these people and being rude about getting what they want if its not available....
Im in disbelief at what this virus is congering up in normally sane people...I have no doubt I will somewhere along the line come in contact with this virus but if I self isolate I have enough for a 2/3 week period...if I don't die from it...
